MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Tylor Perry scored 29 points and made six 3-pointers, Cam Carter added 19 points and Kansas State let a 25-point lead slip away before beating West Virginia 94-90 in overtime on Monday night.

Kansas State (17-11, 7-8 Big 12 Conference) set an NCAA single-season record with its seventh overtime victory, extending Jerome Tang’s mark to 12-0 in his two seasons as coach. West Virginia (9-19, 6-9) remains winless on the road this season, going 0 for 8.

Kansas State built a six-point lead, 87-81, in overtime before RaeQuan Battle made West Virginia's first field goal of extra time with 1:48 left. Battle made another 3-pointer with 34 seconds left to get within 89-88.

Kansas State dribbled down the clock before Perry was fouled and made two free throws for a 91-88 lead with 15.4 seconds left. The Wildcats elected to foul before West Virginia could attempt a tying 3-pointer. Kerr Kriisa made two free throws with 12.3 to get within 91-90.

Perry made two free throws with 8.8 seconds left for a 93-90 lead. Battle was long on a 3-pointer at the other end and Kansas State got the ball back after an official review. Carter sealed it with a free throw.

Will McNair Jr. and Arthur Kaluma each added 13 points for Kansas State. The Wildcats entered making just 30.7% of their 3-point attempts and finished 15 of 31 (48.4%) against the Mountaineers.

Battle scored 28 points and made six 3-pointers, and Kriisa added 25 points and five 3-pointers for West Virginia. Jesse Edwards, averaging 14.6 points per game, was held to five points on 1-of-9 shooting.

Kansas State led 48-26 at halftime after making 11 of 19 from 3-point range, while West Virginia was just 11 of 33 overall. The Wildcats led by as many as 25 points, 66-41, in the second half.

Kriisa made his second 3-pointer during a 10-0 run with 2:13 left in regulation to give West Virginia a lead, 77-74, for the first time since it was 11-10. He added two free throws to make it 79-75.

McNair grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back to get Kansas State within 79-77. After Edwards missed two straight free throws for West Virginia, Perry was fouled on a baseline drive before making two at the stripe to tie it at 79-all with 15.5 left. Kriisa's contested jumper at the buzzer didn't hit the rim and Edwards wasn't able to get another shot off before the buzzer.

Kansas State completed the season sweep of West Virginia for the first time since 2019.

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;– Junior&nbsp;Arthur Kaluma&nbsp;was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for the second time this season on Monday afternoon (February 26) after averaging better than 20 points per game in splitting games against Texas and No. 25/21 BYU last week.

Kaluma averaged 22.5 points on 46.4 percent (13-of-28) shooting, including 44.4 percent (4-of-9) from 3-point range, to go with 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 38 minutes per game in a narrow 62-56 loss at Texas on Feb. 19 and a wire-to-wire 84-74 home win over No. 25/21 BYU on Feb. 24. He also went a combined 15-of-17 from the free throw line in the two games, including a 10-of-12 effort vs. the Cougars.

Kaluma played perhaps his best game in a Wildcat uniform in the win over BYU, as he scored a career-high 28 points on 8-of-11 field goals, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, and 10-of-12 free throws to go with a game-high 10 rebounds, season-tying 4 assists and a steal in 39 minutes. It marked the Wildcats’ first 20-point, 10-rebound performance since&nbsp;Keyontae Johnson&nbsp;posted 22 points and 12 rebounds at No. 8/8 Kansas on Jan. 31, 2023. It was Kaluma’s eighth career double-double, including his team-leading fifth this season.

Kaluma opened the week with an impressive stat line in a road loss at Texas on Feb. 19, leading the team in both points (17) and rebounds (7) while adding 2 assists and a block in 37 minutes.

The weekly award is the third of the season for Kaluma, who was selected as the Big 12 Player of the Week on Dec. 11 and Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Jan. 22. Kaluma Earns Second Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

The Southeast of Saline boys’ basketball team will open sub-state play at home today as they prepare to host Council Grove.

This sub-state quarterfinal will pit the 4th-seeded Trojans (11-9) against the 5th-seeded Braves (8-12), with both teams looking to punch a ticket to the semifinal on Thursday.

For both the boy’s and girl’s tournaments, the semifinals and championship games will all be held in Gypsum for the first time in recent memory.

“Having sub-state at home is a really good moment for Southeast of Saline,” SES head coach Bryson Flax said. “The last time we hosted a basketball sub-state was my sophomore year back in the early 2000s. It’s been a long time but we have good facilities, good locker room space and it’s really great to have that opportunity again.”

To return to Gypsum for another game, the Trojans will need to stay sharp on Monday against a Brave squad that has given teams trouble in spots this season.

“Council Grove plays with a lot of pace and they’re very willing to shoot the three-ball,” Flax said. “They’ve got a really good player in Brycen Palmquist and they’ve got good shooters around him. They’re not big but they’re fast, they push the ball, and they're unafraid to shoot.”

Palmquist is averaging nearly 19 points per game accounting for around 40% of Council Grove’s scoring, and Southeast will need to make his life difficult and run the Braves three-point specialists off the line.

Ultimately for Southeast, this game could very well come down to the offensive end of the floor, which at times has proven to be the lone Achilles heel for a team whose defensive excellence has been without question down the stretch.

“Our practices have gotten a lot more competitive over the year and that’s helped us on the floor,” Flax said. “We’ve gotten a lot more mature and more locked in throughout the season but we’ve gotta put the ball in the basket, we’ve been taking good shots but they have to go through.”

Trojans Welcome in Council Grove to Open Sub-State Play

Sacred Heart will begin its postseason schedule as the Lady Knights welcome the Lincoln Lady Leopards to Salina on Monday night.

Girl's game: #2 Sacred Heart (13-7) vs. #7 Lincoln (5-13)

Sacred Heart comes into the substate&nbsp;opener having won eight of its last 10 games. Lincoln, on the other hand, has lost seven of its last nine games.&nbsp;

"Lincoln is fast and fairly athletic. I have seen them play a couple different zone defenses and a touch of man-to-man,"&nbsp;Lady Knights Head coach Carl Hines said.

Sacred Heart won't be&nbsp;overlooking the&nbsp;Lady Leopards despite their seed and record going into the game and the tournament.

"It's the post-season&nbsp;now so every game will be tough," Hines added.

Senior Night was another monstrous night for&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/5b94a6de-35ba-49cd-9973-7d9f16c95a4a?elinkdata=6091" target="_blank">Jun Murdock</a>&nbsp;just like so many others have been in the last three years.

Murdock, Kansas Wesleyan's uber-talented All-America point guard, produced 28 points, five assists and four rebounds in leading the Coyotes to a 95-84 Kansas Conference victory over York in the regular-season finale Saturday night inside Mabee Arena.

The victory gave the Coyotes (21-7, 18-4 KCAC) the No. 2 seed in the KCAC Tournament where they will play seventh-seeded Ottawa in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Thursday in Mabee Arena. 

Semifinals are scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at the sites of the higher seeded teams; the championship game will be played at 8 p.m. March 3 inside Hartman Arena in Park City.

Murdock scored 14 each half, was 11 of 14 from the field, 6 of 7 at the free throw line, deftly directed the offense and spearheaded the defensive effort while playing 39 minutes.

KWU coach&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/4dfa4cce-5a54-460e-b8e6-7bf5f5f3288a?elinkdata=6091" target="_blank">Anthony Monson</a>&nbsp;summed his night up best in three words:

Recognized along with eight classmates during a ceremony between the women and men's games Murdock smiled, waved to the crowd then did his thing on the court as he had in the Coyotes' 91 previous contests.

"It was wonderful but definitely bittersweet," Murdock said of the Senior Night experience. "I love my teammates; they came out there and they played hard. I don't want it to end but I know everything is going to end."

<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/f20aba9c-a1e7-4fa8-b95b-3f2bc0ccecf3?elinkdata=6091" target="_blank">Izaiah Hale</a>&nbsp;added 21 points,&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/beb7041a-df65-4304-91ca-62c0d9e6ab97?elinkdata=6091" target="_blank">Alex Littlejohn</a>&nbsp;had yet another double-double - 14 points, 14 rebounds - and&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/6f9536ac-896e-4545-ba9d-e0e736d5bdb7?elinkdata=6091" target="_blank">Easton Hunter</a>&nbsp;scored 11 as KWU shot 53 percent (34 of 64) from the field and was 20 of 21 at the foul line.

York (11-17, 9-13 KCAC) refused to make it easy though. Playing for their postseason lives the Panthers battled to the end led by Dwight Glover who finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds.

A rout appeared in the offing early on as Wesleyan raced to a 30-14 lead with 9:18 left in the half. Leading 35-19 with eight minutes left York punched the go button and outscored the Coyotes 25-10 the rest of the way.

The Panthers missed two missed shots under the KWU basket just before the horn sounded allowing the Coyotes to take a 45-44 lead into intermission.

The advantage quickly disappeared early in the second half when an 11-2 run gave York a 55-50 lead with 16½ minutes left.

The game abruptly changed once again, though, when&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/f818e507-4d5f-4ce5-ac1b-5a0af2a88638?elinkdata=6091" target="_blank">Thurbil Bile</a>&nbsp;- the Coyotes' senior center - hammered home a dunk that ignited a 12-0 run over the next 3:52 and made it 62-55. The Panthers committed seven consecutive turnovers during that stretch.

York made one last charge and got within four twice - 64-60 and 66-62 - but a 7-0 spurt gave KWU a 73-62 lead with 8:39 left. The Panthers got no closer than seven the rest of the way.

"Things weren't going well but this team's been pretty resilient all year, they usually find a way to get a win," he said.

As usual, Monson pointed to defense as the key.

"It's the same recipe for us all the time," he said. "Get stops, runouts, early post touches, ball screens in transition and when we're doing that we're really, really good. When we're just playing slow, methodical and exchanging buckets back and forth things just don't work very well for us."

Monson said the defensive adjustment was more mental than physical.

"It was so easy early on that we felt like 'all right, now we don't have to try any more' and then you look up and you're down five," he said. "You realize they're here to play and now you just have to refocus. With these guys being an older group, I think it's a focus thing."

"Sometimes we just lose focus and then they start scoring," he said. "We knew York could score the ball really well so got refocused and were able to get back on track."He said the team let up after the fast start."Once we saw a couple of shots go in, we thought it was going to be like that the whole game and then when they were switching their defense that made it a little tough too," he said. "We got a little comfortable instead of attacking every time."

Monson said he has not spent any time pondering what life without Murdock will be like.

"I don't ever want to think about that," he said with a smile. "I want to enjoy the (KCAC) tournament, play for the (NAIA) tournament and I will cross that bridge when I get there."

The Coyotes swept Ottawa (16-12) during the regular season winning 77-67 in Ottawa and 89-83 last Monday in Mabee Arena. 

The Braves lost to Saint Mary 93-91 in overtime Saturday in Ottawa. 

The KWU-OU winner will play either No. 3 Southwestern or No. 6 McPherson in Saturday's semifinals.

Men's Basketball downs York, secures KCAC No. 2 seed

You never know when that feeling is going to hit.

For the Kansas Wesleyan women's basketball team it was the fourth quarter of Saturday night's senior night and regular season finale against York University at Mabee Arena.

Wesleyan hit 10 3-pointers in the final ten minutes, setting a new school record for 3's in a quarter, and set a new school record for 3-pointer attempts in a game with 42, and tied the school record for 3-pointer makes in a game with 17 as KWU routed York 86-65.

"Shooters shoot, we started feeling it, and it got contagious," Wesleyan head coach&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/16d92323-2af8-4782-9d2c-1ee5e0443afc?elinkdata=6065" target="_blank">Ryan Showman</a>&nbsp;said. "It didn't matter who we brought in off the bench or had on the court, they stepped up with confidence and knocked them down. I'm just so proud of this team."

Senior&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/1bd469c6-4480-4824-beae-ca2d1bd5a3ba?elinkdata=6065" target="_blank">Jill Stephens</a>&nbsp;just missed the single game 3-pointers record with seven in Saturday's game, scoring a game high 21 points.

The win secured the No. 4 seed for the Coyotes in next week's KCAC tournament which begins on Wednesday with quarterfinals. The Coyotes will face No. 5 seed Evangel at 7 p.m. inside Mabee Arena. KWU and Evangel tied in the final regular season standings, but KWU held the tiebreaker in the match-ups.

Wesleyan finished the first quarter on a flurry, leading 11-9 with 4:39 left in the quarter, the Coyotes went on a 12-5 run to extend the lead to nine at 23-14 after a quarter.

It was another 2-point game at 31-29 with 4:52 left in the second, when the Coyotes went on an 8-0 run to take a 39-29 lead with 1:33 left in the half, and a 3 by&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/98238a74-20dc-45a6-b92e-72d829aca8dd?elinkdata=6065" target="_blank">Odessa Ozuna</a>&nbsp;to beat the half time buzzer sent the Coyotes into the locker room up 42-31.

Wesleyan pushed the lead out to 14 in the third on a Ricks triple, but York cut the difference to five at the end of the third, and cut it to two again at 52-50 when it turned all Coyotes.

Late surge pushes Women's Basketball past York, earning No. 4 seed in KCAC Tournament

The Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes pulled out their brooms to earn their second sweep of the season against the Evangel Valor after winning both games of a Saturday doubleheader, with a game one victory of 22-0, and a game two victory of 12-6.

The Coyotes are now 11-4 overall, and 5-1 in KCAC play.

"We got our offense going. Our offense had been sputtering a little bit, we faced some pretty good pitching staffs," head coach&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/c6a36b7c-2243-4f95-ad0b-efef7442c263?elinkdata=5987" target="_blank">Bill Neale</a>&nbsp;said. "But it was a great day to hit with the wind blowing towards the outfield, so balls were able to get lifted."

Game one started quick for the Coyotes, with&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/ff625580-8253-4058-85ab-9ad951700e8a?elinkdata=5987" target="_blank">Kendall Foster</a>&nbsp;starting things off with a solo homer in the first. Foster, who had been out since the end of January, finished the series with six RBI, three HR and six hits.

"To be honest I'm not surprised he was able to get right back into it, he's that type of guy," Nielle said. "Even when he's hurt, he's locked in. I think he's one of the best players in the NAIA, he proved it by coming back."

The Coyotes combined for ten home runs in game one, and four in game two. Players to record a home run include&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/1c55101f-311c-4d8b-89fd-26ae4c30ffc1?elinkdata=5987" target="_blank">Jacob Williamson</a>, Foster,&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/6e212c58-8b07-49d6-b82e-9249cf93791f?elinkdata=5987" target="_blank">Jarrett Gable</a>,&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/72a7fec0-ad00-4be8-b99f-713a0150b5f0?elinkdata=5987" target="_blank">Cruz Oxford</a>,&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/0d4d8b70-a843-429c-bf19-62915324e083?elinkdata=5987" target="_blank">Tyler Favretto</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/991f3372-80eb-49e1-8f3a-6f6e7ba1c0f5?elinkdata=5987" target="_blank">Zack Beatty</a>. As well as Reese Bishop, who hit a grand slam in the bottom of the third.

"It's a lot of fun to watch my guys have success," Neale said. "That's the team that we know that can hit things."

Besides explosive offense, the Coyotes' victory today is also thanks to the starting pitching.

After starter&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/8349be15-8b63-447f-9c24-2dab320a9b03?elinkdata=5987" target="_blank">Jarrett Brannen</a>&nbsp;was able to pitch a complete game the day before, the Coyotes had a full bullpen to work with for the doubleheader. However, they didn't end up needing it, as game one starter&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/cb225755-90ca-403a-90fd-76fc2598b855?elinkdata=5987" target="_blank">Nathan Righi</a>&nbsp;was able to pitch a complete game shut-out.

After game two began with a questionable start for the Coyotes, Neale was able to reach into his rested bullpen to complete the sweep.

"In a three game series, especially when you win the first two, you can pull the starter earlier more comfortably," Neale said. "We had a full bullpen, we even had a lot of guys who are good and still didn't get to go out to pitch."

Two minutes later, Timberlake leaped over Dylan Disu for an alley-oop slam from Harris on a two-on-one fast break. The crowd erupted and Kansas used that momentum to distance themselves and take a 45-25 lead at halftime.

The Jayhawks outscored Texas 52-34 in the paint, which led to Kansas shooting 32 of 52 or 62% from the field. Texas shot 26 of 62 or 42% from the field.

Texas (17-10, 6-8) was led by Tyrese Hunter and Dillon Mitchell with 12 points each.

The Jayhawks' Kevin McCullar Jr. missed the game due to a lingering knee injury. Before the game, Kansas coach Bill Self said he is considered “week to week.” He has missed four Big 12 games this season.

Texas: Poor shooting early haunted the Longhorns and they are now in a tie for ninth in the Big 12.

Kansas: Several dunks and a behind-the-back pass for a layup by Elmarko Jackson showcased an impressive first half from the Jayhawks. They showed that when they are hitting on all cylinders, they are as good as anyone in the country.

Texas: Travels to No. 23 Texas Tech on Tuesday night.

(AP) — The bronze Jackie Robinson cleats that were left behind when a statue of the first player to break Major League Baseball’s color barrier was stolen from a Kansas park are being donated to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

Thieves cut the statue off at its ankles&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jackie-robinson-baseball-statue-stolen-beea370b17079ad30092affe6aaea3c1" target="_blank">last month,</a>&nbsp;leaving only the feet behind at McAdams Park in Wichita. About 600 children play there in a youth baseball league called League 42. It is named after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/jackie-robinson" target="_blank">Robinson’</a>&nbsp;s uniform number with the Brooklyn Dodgers, with whom he broke the major leagues’ color barrier in 1947.

Bob Lutz, executive director of the Little League nonprofit that commissioned the sculpture, said the museum in Kansas City, Missouri, was “enthusiastic” about incorporating the cleats into its display on Robinson. 

The display also includes a damaged&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mlb-sports-travel-georgia-baseball-29523970d7e8dfeedd87aa468b614c49" target="_blank">plaque</a>&nbsp;honoring Robinson. The sign was erected in 2001 outside the birthplace of Robinson near Cairo, Georgia. Community members there discovered last year that someone had shot the plaque multiple times.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“It’s kind of sad in its own way, that we’re building this little shrine of Jackie Robinson stuff that has been defaced or damaged,” said Bob Kendrick, the president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. “But it gives us an opportunity to speak to who he was, the characteristics and value of what he represented, even in the face of adversity. And that message really never goes out of style.”

Robinson played for the Kansas City Monarchs of the Negro Leagues before joining the Brooklyn Dodgers, paving the way for generations of Black American ballplayers. He’s considered not only a sports legend but also&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/mlb-entertainment-sports-los-angeles-baseball-d73b75a6965310bfd087c165e93dc0c6" target="_blank">a civil rights icon</a>. Robinson died in 1972.

Fire crews found burned remnants of his statue five days&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jackie-robinson-baseball-statue-stolen-45c08bbbd29322c05e6136a67f687459" target="_blank">after the theft</a>&nbsp;while responding to a trash can fire at another park about 7 miles (11.27 kilometers) away. One man was charged this month in the theft. Police said there was no evidence it was a hate-motivated crime, but rather the intent was to sell the metal for scrap.

Donations poured in after the theft, totaling around $300,000, Lutz said. The amount includes a $100,000 gift from Major League Baseball.

Lutz, whose friend, the artist John Parsons, made the statue before his death, said the mold is still viable and anticipated that a replacement can be erected within a matter of months. He estimated it would cost around $45,000 to replace the statue itself. While there also will be security and lighting expenses, that leaves lots of extra money that can be used to enhance some of the league’s programming and facilities, Lutz said.

HILLSBORO - The Kansas Wesleyan men's basketball team must have been tired of hearing about how tired they might be.

Playing their third game in five days the Coyotes quickly brushed aside any concerns about fatigue and did so in impressive fashion.

They shot 61 percent from the field including a sizzling 57 percent from beyond 3-point and reached the century mark for the first time this season in a 100-72 Kansas Conference rout of Tabor on Wednesday night.

It was their third consecutive victory, the 20th&nbsp;this season (20-7) and kept them tied for second with Southwestern in the conference standings at 17-4. A win over York in the regular season finale on Senior Night Saturday inside Mabee Arena would give KWU the No. 2 seed in the KCAC tournament that begins next week.

It also was Wesleyan's third consecutive season of 20-plus victories.

"I think the best part tonight is we got to rest some guys," KWU coach&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/7632acbf-dd2e-4af9-b669-69e5805ea2f5?elinkdata=5831" target="_blank">Anthony Monson</a>&nbsp;said with a laugh on his postgame radio show. "We've been running guys 35-plus minutes.

"We didn't practice (Tuesday). We just watched for about 45 minutes and got them out of there."

It was the perfect antidote.&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/3ba66129-3e61-4163-b023-b64641159136?elinkdata=5831" target="_blank">Alex Littlejohn</a>&nbsp;scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds,&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/6d5e2629-4f61-43d6-98c2-0d51f035d722?elinkdata=5831" target="_blank">Jun Murdock</a>&nbsp;scored 18 on 8-for-8 shooting along with six assists and five rebounds and&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/6e02d8eb-3c53-40c6-9017-ead26f67b043?elinkdata=5831" target="_blank">Caden Hale</a>&nbsp;had 12 points off the bench that included 8 of 9 shooting at the free throw foul line. He also had five assists.

The Coyotes were 36 of 59 from the field for the game, 8 of 14 from long distance, 20 of 23 at the foul line and outrebounded the Bluejays 34-23.

"It's nice to be able to play your best basketball at the end of the year. I think we're getting close to that," Monson said.

KWU took control of the game in the first half. Trailing 8-5 the Coyotes embarked on a 20-5 run that gave them a 25-13 advantage with 6:03 left in the half.

Leading 39-30 at the break they opened the second half with a 10-3 surge and later went on a 12-2 run that made it 74-44 with 10:19 left, the rally culminating with five&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/b34744e1-d10d-4dd2-83cc-471121a4dbcc?elinkdata=5831" target="_blank">Caden Hale</a>&nbsp;free throws after three technical fouls were called on the Bluejays, leading to the ejection of head coach Matt Warren.

KWU led by as many as 32 points (80-48) with eight minutes left and reached the 100-point plateau on&nbsp;<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/67e4fe5b-4f39-4403-a275-8e4182cb7bb0?elinkdata=5831" target="_blank">Jaylen Peterson's</a>&nbsp;basket with seven seconds left.

Sixteen Coyotes played in the game with 11 reaching the scoring column - the reserves accounting for 40 points.

"It was a good chance to get everybody involved, get some guys in the game that would never get in," Monson said. "It was a lot of fun."

Monson was pleased with his team performance Wednesday and with the way the season has transpired so far.

"I'm really proud of these guys," he said. "There was a lot of pressure on them to perform this season and I think they've done a great job. Now we've got one more to go (in the regular season) and it's (KCAC) tournament time."

Jack Voth scored 21 and Jaiden Miller 18 for Tabor (11-16, 8-13 KCAC).

Saturday's game tips off at 7 p.m. York (11-16, 9-12 KCAC) defeated Friends 63-59 Wednesday in York, Nebraska. KWU defeated York 85-59 on January 10 in York.

Southwestern plays Bethany on Saturday in Lindsborg.

The eight-team conference tournament begins February 29 with quarterfinal games. Pairings will be announced after the conclusion of Saturday's contests.

Coyotes dominate Tabor in final regular season road trip 100-72

MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp;Clint Brown, a veteran college football coach who has spent the last two seasons as an offensive quality control coach on the Kansas State staff, has been promoted to the role of Director of Roster Management, while&nbsp;Taylor Wenger, a football operations assistant in 2022 and 2023, has been promoted to assistant director of football operations, head coach&nbsp;Chris Klieman&nbsp;announced Wednesday.

In his role, Brown will oversee the football recruiting staff as he manages the composition of the football roster and, in consultation with Klieman and the assistant coaches, will determine the needs for future teams, as well as develop a strategy to retain current student-athletes and attain prospective student-athletes.

“Clint has been a vital member of our staff since his arrival and has played a big part in the overall success of our program,” Klieman said. “With recruiting, the transfer portal, NIL, and overall roster management becoming more and more of a daily function, we wanted to identify an experienced person who was familiar with our program and culture. Clint fits that perfectly, and I am excited for his new role and continued impact on our football student-athletes.”

Brown came to K-State prior to the 2022 season and has helped the Wildcats earn a combined 19-8 record, a 2022 Big 12 Championship and a 2023 Pop-Tarts Bowl victory.

“I am appreciative of Coach Klieman for giving me an opportunity to join the K-State Football staff two years ago, and during that time my family and I have been heavily invested in the culture of the program and the Manhattan community,” Brown said. “This new role will help facilitate Kansas State recruiting while retaining elite talent. With the evolving and ever-changing landscape of college football, I am excited to meet these new challenges head on and enact Coach Klieman’s vision for the program moving forward.”

Prior to his time in Manhattan, Brown spent the previous three seasons as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Abilene Christian where he tutored a pair of defenders to All-America honors in 2019, and, over his three seasons in Abilene, he saw five different defenders pick up all-conference accolades.

Brown went to Abilene Christian following a 10-year run on the staff at South Dakota State, including the final six as the program’s sole defensive coordinator after working the first four years as a co-defensive coordinator. Over his 10 years in Brookings, Brown helped the Jackrabbits earn a combined 83-44 record, including a 54-25 mark in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, while they reached the FCS Playoffs in eight of his 10 years on staff.

A native of Arlington, Nebraska, Brown played football at Nebraska and was a member of the Cornhuskers’ 1994 national championship team. He began his collegiate coaching career as a student assistant for the Cornhuskers during the spring of 1995, and later that year he coached the outside linebackers at Nebraska Wesleyan, then spent the 1996 season as a graduate assistant at Nebraska-Omaha.

Brown spent two more seasons as a graduate assistant at New Mexico State, working with the linebackers in 1997 and the secondary in 1998. While in Las Cruces he completed a master’s of arts degree in curriculum and instruction.

Brown’s time in Manhattan is his second stint in the state of Kansas having served as defensive coordinator and assistant head coach at Bethel College from 2000 to 2003. Following his time at Bethel, Brown returned to New Mexico State in 2004 to coach the Aggies’ safeties and special teams. He also served as academic coordinator.

Brown and his wife, Stephanie, have one daughter, Ava.

Wenger, a native of Glidden, Iowa, has worked closely with Director of Football Operations&nbsp;Kacey Feldkamp&nbsp;the last two seasons after obtaining her undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in 2020 and graduate degree in 2022. K-State Football Announces Two Promotions

MANHATTAN, Kansas –&nbsp;K-State women’s basketball head coach Jeff Mittie has been named as one of 15 candidates for the 2024 Werner Ladder Naismith Women’s Coach of the Year Late Season Watch List presented by AXIA Time in an announcement on Wednesday.

Mittie is the second K-State women’s basketball head coach in the program’s 56 seasons of action to earn consideration for Naismith Women’s Coach of the Year honors, as Deb Patterson was a three-time finalist for the honor in 2002, 2003 and 2005.

K-State has achieved an overall record of 22-4 this season, which included a 14-game winning streak from December 1, 2023, to Jan. 31, 2024. Among its 22 victories are four against Associated Press (AP) top-25 foes.

The Wildcats have improved upon its 2022-23 overall win total by three victories and its Big 12 record by six wins with four regular season contests remaining.

With its success on the court this season, the Wildcats achieved the program’s highest ranking in the Mittie era (2014-present), as the team was ranked second in the nation in both the AP and Coaches polls in the same week for the first time in program history. It was the highest ranking for the program in the AP poll since Nov. 25, 2002, when K-State was ranked second.

According to Stats Perform, K-State was the first women’s program since the start of the AP poll in 1976 to go from unranked in the preseason to either No. 1 or No. 2 in the same season.
