MANHATTAN, Kan. – Former K-State All-American Michael Beasley was selected as the BIG3 Most Valuable Player in a vote by league players and coaches on Friday night (August 15), repeating the honor he won for the first time in 2024.
The BIG3 is a 12-team, 3-on-3 basketball league that was founded by hip-hop musician and actor Ice Cube and entertainment executive Jeff Kwatinetz in 2017. Rosters include both former NBA and international players in a variation of 3-on-3 basketball seen in FIBA and the Olympics.
Beasley is averaging 23.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists for Miami 305 (5-3), which includes former Kansas star Mario Chalmers. Beasley leads the BIG3 in total points (162) and total field goals (59), while he is second in 4-pointers (3) and tied for third in 3-pointers (12).
Miami 305, which also includes former Iowa star Reggie Evans, Boston College’s Sean Williams and Lance Stephenson and is coached by 5-time NBA champion Michael Cooper, will play Dallas Power (6-2) in the second BIG3 playoff game on Sunday (August 17) at the American Airlines Center in Dallas at 2 p.m., CT. The game will air live on CBS.
The No. 2 overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, Beasley played parts of 11 seasons in the NBA, including four seasons with the Miami HEAT. He has also spent time in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), earning Foreign MVP accolades in 2016 along with all-star honors (2015, 2016) while playing with the Shandong Golden Stars.
