MANHATTAN, Kan.&nbsp;–&nbsp;K-State women’s basketball will enter the 2024-25 season ranked among the preseason Associated Press (AP) women’s basketball top-25, as the Wildcats open the season ranked 13th.

The Wildcats, who were voted as the Big 12 favorites in the preseason Big 12 Coaches poll, are ranked in the preseason AP poll for the fourth time in program history and the first time since 2004-05. This was K-State’s highest preseason AP ranking since opening the 2003-04 season ranked fifth.

K-State ended the 2023-24 season ranked 19th&nbsp;in the final AP poll after beginning the season unranked. The Wildcats were ranked for 19 consecutive weeks in both the AP and Coaches polls to conclude the 2023-24 season.

The Wildcats were joined in the preseason AP poll by three Big 12 members – Iowa State at eighth, Baylor at 12th and West Virginia at 16th. K-State’s non-conference opponent, Creighton, is ranked 21st.

Kansas State will be led into the 2024-25 season by Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year Ayoka Lee and Preseason All-Big 12 selection Serena Sundell.

Orders by phone at (800) 221.CATS and in person at the Bramlage Coliseum southwest ticket office will begin at 8:30 a.m., CT on Friday, October 18.&nbsp;There are&nbsp;a number of&nbsp;can’t-miss&nbsp;home&nbsp;matchups, including men’s games against Houston, KU, Arizona and Iowa State, and women’s&nbsp;games&nbsp;against&nbsp;Iowa State, KU, Baylor and more!

New this season, single-game parking passes for both men’s and women’s basketball games will be cashless, digital, and sold at a discount when purchased in advance. Men’s basketball general admission parking will cost $12 when purchased in advance online and will be $15 when purchased at the gate (credit only). 

For women’s basketball, general admission parking will cost $10 when purchased in advance online and will be $12 when purchased at the gate (credit only).&nbsp;Fans are encouraged to&nbsp;purchase&nbsp;passes in advance of game day, as&nbsp;prices will increase, and cash will not be accepted at the gates.

K-State will once again use dynamic pricing with the cost of single-game tickets increasing or decreasing throughout the season due to demand.&nbsp;Additionally,&nbsp;sales&nbsp;tax will be added to the price of all season and single-game ticket&nbsp;sales.

OPENING STATEMENT:&nbsp;“Alright, I don’t have a lot to go over with you. I can just give you a brief update on Rashee (Rice). His surgery was not his ACL, it was the posterolateral corner. There’s damage there. It’s probably the same result though that you’d get timewise for an ACL. It takes a while for that to come back, and he’ll get into his rehab and get rolling on that as we go here but that’s what it was. Other than that, we look forward to the challenge of playing a very good 49er team. I think both teams know each other and what we’re about. (It) should be a heck of a game. Anyways, with that, the time’s yours.”

Q: Is it still your process to use the bye week to self-scout? If so, what was your point of emphasis?

REID:&nbsp;“We actually have a continual self-scout that we do throughout there and then look at it and we’ve got areas to improve. I’m not necessarily going to go through those areas but there are things that we can definitely improve on, (on) both sides of the ball, special teams so we’ve got to – and special teams. We were able to go back and look at some of that to be able to – offensively – to keep our drives going and things that can help us sustain things that might have hurt those drives. Then, the obvious redzone questions, we kind of worked through that (to) make sure we’re a little bit more sound there. Defensively, we’re doing a pretty good job in most of the situational things. We’d had that first drive thing going and (that) we did a little better on so we’re doing a pretty good job there. There are some things that (Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo) Spags has got that he’s got to work on with the guys. That’s kind of in a nutshell, that was it.”

Q: What stands out to you about the redzone offensively from week-to-week?

REID:&nbsp;“Well, listen, we can do a better job of not stopping ourselves with things. Whether it’s penalties or dropped balls, we’ve had a couple of those. Schematically, we go back and we hammer through that. We can help out the guys in some of the areas, too, there – just putting them in a little bit better position. The things that are hurting us right now – which are obvious, but the penalty situation’s hurting us, and we’ve got to take care of that. That’s something we can control, focus in on (and) do a better job with.”

Q:&nbsp;How much of JuJu Smith-Schuster and Kareem Hunt’s production is due to them being here before?

REID:&nbsp;“I think that’s a big part of it. They kind of know how we operate. They know the offense, they’re comfortable with it. Kareem (Hunt) had obviously been away for a while, but he was able to pick everything up quickly. He and Pat (Mahomes) are very good friends. They’ve stayed in touch throughout the years here, so he was welcomed back in, he had that part of it, the comfort part that you’re welcomed back in and to get things rolling. That opens up another avenue there for him psychologically.”

Q:&nbsp;What are your plans for Clyde Edwards-Helaire now that he’s been at practice for a week now?

REID:&nbsp;“He’ll (Clyde Edwards-Helaire) be back in tomorrow. We’ll be able to talk to him then. I haven’t had the chance to talk to him here, so I want to just get with him first before I put anything out there publicly. We’re awful glad to have him here.”

Q:&nbsp;Do you still see Wanya Morris starting at left tackle for at least the interim?

REID:&nbsp;“We obviously looked at that and we’ll just – both of them can do better. Wanya (Morris) knows what he has to work on and likewise Kingsley (Suamataia) does and we’re lucky to have both of the guys – both young guys. We’re kind of growing with them here so we’ll just kind of let that process keep rolling.”

Q:&nbsp;How important is bringing in a receiver with some familiarity if you are to acquire one at the trade deadline?

REID:&nbsp;“I think – it’s probably what Adam (Teicher) was saying too – just I think that helped JuJu (Smith-Schuster) and his situation coming back in (and) jumping in. It helped Mecole (Hardman) coming back, but I’m not telling (you) other guys can’t come in and help out. That’s not – I don’t think that’s an issue. It’s just going to take them a little bit longer to figure it out and get on the same page with Pat (Mahomes) and all of those things. It won’t be quite as what you’ve seen with these other guys that have been here, but that’s – and I’m not saying that we need to bring anybody else in. You asked the question. I’m just saying that I’m answering your question on that, Matt (Derrick).”

REID:&nbsp;“I think Xavier’s (Worthy) has done a nice job for us; he does a lot of things there for us. (He plays) a lot of different positions, we have flexibility with him to move him around. He’s a quick learner which helps in this offense. I’m happy with what we’ve got so far and I don’t think we’ve tapped that out at all. He’ll keep getting better and that’s exciting.”

Q: Do you feel good about everyone on your active roster health-wise?

REID:&nbsp;“Yeah, the only one that was working on something was (Mike) Danna. Mike had hurt his pec(toral) and so he’s working through that, but he would be the only one that was working this past week with something.”

Q: What is a good number of carries for Kareem Hunt at this point in his career?

REID:&nbsp;“I kind of joked with him (Kareem Hunt), Soren (Petro), that he’d spend the bye week in the cold tub after all those carries. I told you – I mentioned before that he came back in pretty good shape other than not having played football and that’s held true to this point. He’s been able to do a good job in practice when he was on the scout team. Then, he worked through that (and) he was able to get in the game. We started him off relatively slow and then increased it and he was able to handle both of those things. I think – and we’ll just see how the game goes but I feel comfortable with him carrying the ball. We had (Carson) Steele backing him up there (and) he had a few carries that were productive so we’re in pretty good shape there.”

Kansas Set to Host Houston for Homecoming on Saturday

Kansas Wesleyan's men's and women's basketball teams will face off in a 'Battle of the Sexes' skills competition during Homecoming Weekend on Friday inside Mabee Arena.

"We have great athletes on our men's and women's basketball teams and this will be a fun atmosphere for them to showcase their tremendous talent," KWU Athletic Director Miguel Paredes said. "We put this exhibition together all with the spirit of competition in mind. We hope all those we return to campus for Homecoming will use this opportunity to check out both teams at the same time."

The competition begins at 1 p.m., Friday, October 18, and is free to the public.

Kansas Wesleyan's men's and women's basketball teams will face off in a 'Battle of the Sexes' skills competition during Homecoming Weekend on Friday inside Mabee Arena."We have great athletes on our men's and women's basketball teams and this will be a fun atmosphere for them to showcase their tremendous talent," KWU Athletic Director Miguel Paredes said. "We put this exhibition together all with the spirit of competition in mind. We hope all those we return to campus for Homecoming will use this opportunity to check out both teams at the same time."The competition begins at 1 p.m., Friday, October 18, and is free to the public.

Avila got a goal in the 19th minute to get on the board, but the Coyotes were quick to respond. Noel ZImbeva scored it for the Coyotes in the 20th minute off an assist by Garcia making it 3-1 Coyotes.

Wesleyan's final goal came in the 70th minute by Mike Wernicke assisted by Kum. After a long throw-in from deep in the corner, Kum went for an initial shot that was blocked and bounced right to Wernicke for the score.

KWU dominated the match with a 22-7 advantage in shots. The Coyotes improved to 7-0 in the KCAC and recorded the fifth shutout of the season in the victory, that also propelled KWU into the lead in the KCAC standings after Oklahoma Wesleyan played York University to a scoreless tie Saturday.

KWU WSOC makes two first half goals stand, grounding Eagles 2-0

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes, ranked No. 16 in the NAIA, headed to the Gans Creek Cross Country course on Saturday to run in the Brian T. Simpson Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri - St. Louis.

The Coyotes posted a third place finish in the final standing, trailing only University of Saint Mary and NCAA Division II Drury University in the team standings. The Coyotes finished with 97 points overall.

Gans Creek will play host to the 2024 NAIA National Championships in November, and the Simpson Invitational gave the Coyotes a chance to preview the course before the National Championships.

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Kansas Wesleyan Women's Cross Country finished in third place on Saturday at the Brian T. Simpson Invitational, hosted by University of Missouri Saint Louis at Gans Creek Cross Country Course.

The meet was held at the same course that will host the 2024 NAIA Cross Country National Championships in November, giving the Coyote runners a preview of the course.

Wesleyan finished with 84 points in third place by a wide margin over Evangel in the standings. The Valor were fourth with 156 points. William Woods was fifth with 165 points.

(AP) — Avery Johnson rebounded from throwing a late interception by&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/RGIII/status/1845343431058420074">finding Jayce Brown</a>&nbsp;for a 50-yard touchdown with 2:14 remaining as&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/KStateFB/status/1845352115549471225">No. 18 Kansas State</a>&nbsp;escaped with a 31-28 win over Colorado on Saturday night.

The dual-threat quarterback for the Wildcats (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) finished with a rushing score and two passing TDs, both to Brown.

Leading 21-7 in the third quarter, the Wildcats saw the Buffaloes (4-2, 2-1) steadily chip away. Colorado took the lead when Shedeur Sanders threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to LaJohntay Wester with 3:12 left.

The score was set up when Johnson’s tipped pass resulted in a 59-yard interception return by cornerback Colton Hood, who was filling in after two-way star&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/travis-hunter-colorado-buffaloes-2b1dccbb45f5b415191c8672729d1389">Travis Hunter</a>&nbsp;left the game in the first half with an apparent shoulder injury.

Johnson needed only three plays to help Kansas State retake the lead. The Wildcats defense stopped the Buffaloes on downs to cement the win.

“Ultimately you’ve just got to make plays in big moments,” Johnson said. “Ultimately, that’s what our guys did.”

It was nearly the second straight magical comeback at Folsom Field for the Buffaloes. They beat Baylor on Sept. 21 in overtime after tying it up on a Hail Mary pass with no time left in regulation.

“Sometimes when you lose in life, you get your butt kicked and you've just got to take. Sometimes you lose, you say, ‘Dang, we should’ve won that. We should've had that,'” Colorado coach Deion Sanders said. “That was one of those types of games. That's not taking anything away from our opponents because they played their butts off.”

The Buffaloes' three-game winning streak came to a halt. More concerning, the health of Hunter, who appeared to hurt his shoulder catching a Shedeur Sanders pass and running full speed into safety Daniel Cobbs in the second quarter. The team also lost receivers Jimmy Horn Jr., Omarion Miller and Terrell Timmons Jr. to injuries.

Hunter is a Heisman hopeful for his play as a cornerback and receiver. Before leaving, he showed off his blocking skills by picking a defender and allowing Wester to score on a 25-yard pass.

Prior to the interception and the comeback, Johnson was having all sorts of fun on the field. He broke out the “Deion Shuffle” after a score. The cameras also caught Johnson taking a selfie with a fan in the stands who handed him their phone as he rode a stationary bike.

Johnson briefly went to the locker room in the third quarter holding his left side but returned to throw a TD pass to make it 21-7.

Shedeur Sanders finished 34 of 40 for 388 yards and three scores. He completed a school-best 16 straight passes and nearly had a 17th in a row but Will Sheppard dropped a pass in his hands. Soon after,&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/CUBuffsFootball/status/1845326551191060763">Sheppard made up for it</a>&nbsp;with a difficult 7-yard TD reception to make it 21-14.

“Yeah, we made a statement — that we lost,” the Colorado QB said.

Kansas State: Johnson and the Wildcats didn't panic after losing the lead and found a way to respond. “Some of the things that happened will help us down the road,” coach Chris Klieman said.

Colorado: Safety Shilo Sanders made his return after missing three games with a forearm injury. “I thought he was rusty," his father/coach said.

Longtime NBA standout Carmelo Anthony was on the sideline wearing a Colorado Avalanche jersey.&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/CUBuffsFootball/status/1845300543486402843">Kevin Durant showed</a>&nbsp;up near Colorado's bench, too. The Phoenix Suns play the Denver Nuggets in a preseason game Sunday night.
