TEMPE, Arizona&nbsp;–&nbsp;K-State handed out 21 assists on its 24 made field goals and fended off a fourth quarter rally to hand Arizona State its first home loss of the season, 74-67, on Sunday afternoon at Desert Financial Arena.

K-State (12-11, 5-5 Big 12) shot 51.1 percent (24-of-47) from the field, including a 60.0 percent (12-of-20) performance from 3-point range. The Wildcats 21 assists marked the fourth time this season K-State has handed out 20 or more assists in a game. The assisted shot rate of 87.5 percent was the highest in a game this season and the highest since carding an 89.7 percent effort against Arizona State on Jan. 19, 2025, in Bramlage Coliseum.

The Wildcats saw four players reach double figures on Sunday, as junior guard Taryn Sides led the way with 21 points on 5-of-5 shooting, including 3-of-3 from long distance and an 8-of-9 effort from the foul line.

Junior forward Nastja Claessens registered her first career double-double with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including a career-high 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, a career-high 12 rebounds, a career-high four assists and pocketed three steals.

🏀 K-State Dishes Out First Home Loss to Arizona State

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;The Kansas Jayhawks hit four free throws in the final 39 seconds of regulation to force overtime, but Colorado outscored the Jayhawks 15-12 in the extra session to claim a 69-66 victory Sunday afternoon at Allen Fieldhouse.

S’Mya Nichols led the Jayhawks with 22 points, five assists and three rebounds. Nichols was held to 5-of-16 shooting from the field, but continued to attack and get to the free throw line, where she connected on 12-of-14 attempts. Jaliya Davis had 14 points and six rebounds before fouling out in 26 minutes of action. Elle Evans added 12 points and a season-high nine rebounds in the effort.&nbsp;

Kansas was held to a season-low 35.8 percent (19-53) shooting from the field, while also committing a season-high 25 turnovers. Both teams hit just two three-pointers in the game and Colorado hit 27 free throws compared to 26 for Kansas. The Jayhawks outscored Colorado 30-22 in the paint and outrebounded the Buffs 39-37.&nbsp;

“When we didn’t foul, I thought our defense was pretty good,” Kansas coach Brandon Schneider said following the game. “You can’t put a team on the line 39 times, especially at home. That’s just not the kind of discipline we want to play with. Our backs are against the wall, there’s no question about that. Our margin for error has become very small and that’s something we’re going to have to understand when it comes to the importance of every single possession.”

The setback is Kansas’ second one-possession defeat this week, after the Jayhawks fell 79-77 at No. 12 TCU on Thursday in Fort Worth. KU is now 13-10 (3-8 Big 12) on the year, while Colorado improved to 15-7 (6-4 Big 12).&nbsp;

Kansas continues its three-game homestand on Wednesday, Feb 4, hosting BYU at 6:30 p.m. CT from Allen Fieldhouse on ESPN+.

Defense dominated the first 10 minutes of action, as the teams combined to hit just five field goals while committing 15 turnovers. The Jayhawks got baskets from Libby Fandel and Nadira Eltayeb, but hit just 2-of-12 attempts as a team. KU got two steals and held Colorado to 3-of-12 shooting, but the Buffaloes scored the final five points of the quarter over 1:41 of game time and led 7-4 at the end of the first.

The lid came off the basket in the second quarter and Kansas took the lead on an Evans three-pointer to put KU up 12-11 at the 6:39 mark. The Buffs regained the lead with a pair of free throws, but Regan Williams put the Jayhawks back on top with a lay-in with 6:14 to play in the half. Nichols scored the final five points of the half, sending Kansas to the break with a 21-19 advantage.&nbsp;

Colorado scored the first four points of the third quarter and opened on a 12-5 run to take a 31-26 lead after Zyanna Walker knocked down a jumper with 7:02 to play in the period. Kansas responded with a 7-0 run to regain the lead at 33-31 as Williams converted a layup at the 4:24 mark. KU scored 10 points the rest of the quarter, with eight coming from the free throw line, and the Jayhawks held a 43-39 lead entering the fourth quarter.&nbsp;

Kansas opened the fourth quarter with a 5-1 spurt that gave the Jayhawks their largest lead of the game at 48-40 with 8:56 to play after Davis converted a traditional three-point play. After that, KU was held without a basket for nearly six minutes, allowing Colorado to hit a three-pointer and five free throws as part of an 8-0 run that tied the game, 48-48, with 3:28 to play.

P.J. Haggerty led Kansas State with 23 points and nine rebounds. Since transferring from Memphis, Haggerty has scored in double digits in all 22 of Kansas State’s games this season.

The Knights would face Holcomb in the 3rd&nbsp;place game of the Trojans Classic and fall 56-49 in a close defeat. The Lady Knights faced off with Moundridge defeating them 47-41 in the championship.

The boys would start things off in the 3rd&nbsp;place game in Hillsboro. The Knights would keep it close in the first quarter tied up with Holcomb 10-10, Will had all 10 for the Knights in the quarter. Holcomb would make it hard defensively for the Knights to pull away, the Knights would hold a 24-19 lead at intermission.

Holcomb would come out of the half firing from the 3-point line backed by Korbin Johnson and the Longhorns would lead 39-35 going into the final quarter of play. Turnovers and rebounds would hurt the Knights in the 56-49 defeat.

In the defeat the Knights were led by Will Tuttle he finished with 24.

The Knights finish the Trojan Classic 4th&nbsp;place and move to 15-2 overall. They look to bounce back on Tuesday as they host Southeast of Saline in a league shootout from Sacred Heart.

The Lady Knights knew from the start what was at stake tonight. The Lady Knights though found themselves in a defensive battle in the first, down 9-5. Moundridge forced the Lady Knights to shoot from the outside and make it hard to get things rolling, down 3 at intermission 20-17.

The Lady Knights would make first half changes of a lifetime. Sacred Heart came out of the locker room with a chip on their shoulder and Sacred Heart would force turnovers and turn them into points. Sacred Heart would force 5 turnovers in the third quarter and take the lead at the end of the third 31-28. Sacred Heart would force the ball to the rim and get the Lady Wildcats into foul trouble. The Lady Knights would go 11-15 from the free throw line and be crowned the Trojan Classic Champions with a 47-41 victory.

🏀 Lady Knights capture Trojan Classic title with win over Moundridge

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Darryn Peterson scored 18 points in 20 minutes and No. 14 Kansas beat No. 13 BYU 90-82 on Saturday in the 1,000th game played at historic Allen Fieldhouse.

Bryson Tiller had career-high 21 points and seven rebounds for Kansas (16-5, 6-2 Big 12).

Although the Jayhawks led by as many as 21 points, BYU stayed within striking distance in the second half, cutting the lead to six as the clock ticked under two minutes to go. Kansas outscored the Cougars 8-4 in the final minute to withstand the late rally.

Richie Saunders scored a career-high 33 for BYU (17-4, 5-3). His six three-pointers tied a career-high.

Kansas carried a 20-point lead into halftime, shooting 64.3% from the field. That included 18 points from Peterson and the Jayhawks made 9 of 12 from beyond the arc.

BYU freshman AJ Dybantsa, who entered the game averaging a nation-leading 23.6 points, went without a shot until the 11:24 mark in the first half. Dybantsa scored his first basket with 7:22 left in the period, ending a 13-0 run by the Jayhawks with a 3-pointer. He finished with 17 points.

Excitement about the matchup between top prospects Peterson and Dybantsa fizzled when Peterson exited the game a little more than 3 1/2 minutes into the second half. He missed Kansas’ previous game with an ankle sprain and has been limited to just 11 appearances, battling hamstring and calf injuries.

Kansas: Plays Monday at No.11 Texas Tech.

Chapman and Abilene split the first of two doubleheaders on the hardwood in Chapman on Friday, with the Lady Irish winning their 11th game of the season, and the Cowboys snapping a ten-game losing streak.

The Lady Irish staved off a big surge from Abilene early in the second quarter, pushing their advantage back to a comfortable margin and holding on for a rivalry victory.

In the first quarter, Chapman allowed just two points on one Tessa Herrman field goal. Abilene would pick up the pace in the second quarter, cutting the lead down to three, but the Lady Irish responded well and held a 23-16 lead at halftime.

A three-point contest broke out in the third quarter, with Chapman knocking down four triples to one up three from the Cowgirls.

Fouls and free throws dictated the fourth quarter, but Chapman shot 7-10 from the stripe down the stretch, holding on for a comfortable 56-40 win.

The starting five all chipped in big for the Lady Irish, led by Callie Cook (10), Josie Baer (10), Jai Rodgers (10), Avery Baer (9), and Adelynn Kirkpatrick (8).

Abilene was led in scoring by Makenna Stover (13) and Tessa Hermann (10), who was hampered throughout the game with foul trouble.

With this victory, Chapman improves to 11-4 overall and 3-4 in NCKL play while Abilene slides to 4-10 and 0-6 respectively.

Chapman’s boys battled admirably, cutting the lead down to one possession three times in the second half, but couldn’t find their first win of the season as Abilene snapped a ten-game losing streak on the road.

Early on, it looked like Abilene might run away with this one, as the Irish failed to score for the first five minutes of the opening frame, trailing 12-5 after a quarter.

The second quarter was a mess across the board, with high-volume fouls leading to 21 free throws split nearly evenly between the two teams. At halftime, Abilene led 32-23.

In the second half, the Irish surged ahead with multiple big runs, making it a one-possession game on three occasions, but in the end, Abilene was able to hold on for their first win in 2026.

Kolt Becker (17), Landon Rodgers (13), and Levi Evans (12) led the charge for the Cowboys while Bo Rothchild (12) and Connor Cote-Boss (10) topped the score sheet for the Irish.

With this win, Abilene improves to 3-11, collecting their first NCKL win, while Chapman drops to 0-15.

The Lady Knights started things off strong with a 54-23 victory, while the Knights would end the night with a 55-32 win over the Celtics.

Girls: Sacred Heart 54 Hutch Trinity 23

The Lady Knights would start the night off locked in on defense, forcing 8 first quarter turnovers and only allowing one field goal, Sacred Heart would lead 11-5 at the end of the first. Defense would continue a strong presence and force 20 first half turnovers and hold them to 12 points in the first half, leading 32-12 at intermission.

The strongest scoring quarter for the Lady Knights was in the third, they would outscore Hutch Trinity 18-5 and lead going into the final quarter of play 53-17. The starters were pulled most of the final quarter to rest for tomorrow and the Lady Knights would force 30 turnovers total in the 54-23 victory.

The Lady Knights had three go into double digits, Skylar Douglas finished with 14, Nicole Richards ended her night with 11 and Emmy Lee with 10. Brynn Bechard, a freshman coming off the bench, had a career night of 8.

The Lady Knights move to 13-3 overall and a quick turnaround for them as they travel to Hillsboro to take on Moundridge in the Trojan Classic Championship game at 5:30.

Boys: Sacred Heart 55 Hutch Trinity 32

A well-coached Hutch Trinity would make it a little harder for the Knights to pull away at times. The Knights defense would force 11 first quarter turnovers and 7 in the second quarter. The Knights would lead 18-10 and 29-17 at the intermission.

Sacred Heart would flip turnovers into points in the third and lead 45-25 through three quarters of play. The Celtics would try offensively to claw back, and it was never enough as the Knights win 55-32.

Will Tuttle led the Knights he finished with 16 as well as Noah Hines he compiled 12 in the victory effort.

Hutch Trinity was led by Alex Guajardo he finished with 12.

The Knights move to 15-1 overall and will play Saturday at 4:00 PM in the third-place game of the Trojan Classic taking on the Holcomb Longhorns.
