Rural Phillips County resident Tom Highley Jr. passed away at his home on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the age of 74.

He was born January 28, 1946 in Smith Center, KS the son of Tom 
Highley, Sr. and Faith (Fortin) Highley.&nbsp; Following high school, Tom 
went to trade school and learned welding.&nbsp; He then started working for 
Hesston Corporation in Hesston and he also began welding at Grasshopper 
Lawn Mowers in Moundridge at the same time.&nbsp; He retired from Hesston 
Corporation.&nbsp; He kept busy when he wasn’t welding by cutting and selling
 firewood and fence post.&nbsp; Following his retirement he enjoyed farming 
on the family farm as a hobby.

Tom was united in marriage to Kendra Otteson on February 29, 1996 in 
Phillipsburg and were sealed for time and eternity on February 14, 2009 
at Denver Temple.

Tom was a total outdoorsman.&nbsp; He loved hunting, fishing and camping.&nbsp;
 He had made many trips to Colorado with family and friends to enjoy 
these things.&nbsp; He would try to attend auctions around the area.&nbsp; He 
loved caring for all the animals, especially the dog and cats on the 
farm.&nbsp; Most of all he cherished the time he spent with his family and 
friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas, Sr. and Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Kendra of the home; a daughter Kelli 
Willis of Moundridge, KS; a son Jason Highley of Halstead, KS; 3 
grandchildren Mikayla Lare, Kolton Lare and Klay Willis; and a great 
grandson Liam Willcutt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 29, 
2020 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Phillipsburg.&nbsp; 
Burial will follow in Hillsdale Cemetery, Phillips County, KS.

Tom will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9
 p.m. Friday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.&nbsp; The 
family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. for 
visitation at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to His Grandchildren’s Education 
Fund or Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Youth Hunter &nbsp;Education.

Alberto Garcia, 26, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 7:49 a.m., Tuesday, February 25th, in the 2300 Block of 14th Avenue, in McPherson County, Kansas as a result of a weather related automobile accident.

Alberto was born in San Pablo, California on May 14, 1993, a son of Norma Edith Martin, of McPherson, Kansas and Luis Alberto Garcia, of Guadalajara, Jalisco.

Alberto attended grade school at Colegio Ninos Heroes of Tepatitlan de Morelos, Jalisco Mexico, McPherson Middle School and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 2011. He then attended Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, Kansas.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church McPherson, Kansas.

Alberto worked at Wendy's, Dairy Queen, Central Plastics of McPherson, Excel in Salina and currently working through Team Employment at Pfizer.

Alberto enjoyed playing sports especially soccer, cage fighting, and skateboarding. He was quite the prankster and loved to tease his cousins and others. He loved spending time with his sons and was teaching them how to skate, and speaking Spanish.

Alberto Garcia and Stacia Rosales shared two sons, Aiden and Karson.

He is survived by his sons and their mother, Aiden Rosales, Karson Garcia, and Stacia Rosales, all of Salina, Kansas; mother Norma Martin, of McPherson, Kansas; father Luis Garcia, of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico; brother Adrian Garcia, of McPherson, Kansas; sister Edith Garcia, of Hutchinson, Kansas; sister Diana Garcia, of McPherson, Kansas;

maternal grandparents Mario and Esther Martin, of Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico; paternal grandmother Maria De La Salud Arreola, of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico; and Nephew Zaire Garcia - White, of McPherson, Kansas; many several aunts and uncles and many cousins.

Alberto was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother, Vicenta Navarro.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. with rosary at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 10:00 on Friday, March 6th, 2020 with Fr. Ben Shockey officiating.

The final resting place will be in the McPherson Cemetery Mausoleum, McPherson, Kansas.

Daphene Lee, 82, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 26, 2020

She was born in Comanche, Oklahoma on August 20, 1937, a daughter of the late Marie (Eubanks) and Berlin Buzbee.

Survivors include her husband, Charles "Bud" Lee of the home; daughters, Vickie Dunafon (Doug) of Westmoreland, Kansas, and Valarie Strobel (Jim) of Hays, Kansas; and her four siblings, Colene Goodman, Bill Buzbee, Emmelene Roland, and Larry Don Buzbee.

Daphene is also survived by her grandchildren, Jessica Owen and Justin Dunafon; and four great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her son, Michael Lee; and grandson, Jacob Corwin.

There will be no visitation as cremation has been chosen.

The family will hold a memorial service on Saturday, February 29th at 11:00 am at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 255 S. 7th Street, Salina, with Pastor Kent Happel officiating.

Delores Kathryn Morrell was born on May 7, 1929 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the daughter of Harold and Hyland Hock Sleichter. She died early Thursday, February 20, 2020 at the Resident Care Center in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 90.

She grew up in Colorado, where she attended and graduated from Falcon High School in Falcon, Colorado, where she met Wayne Morrell.

On June 8, 1947, she and Wayne were united in marriage, and they were privileged to be married for 51 years until his death in May, 1999.

For many years, she worked as a medical records clerk at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit.

In her spare time, she enjoyed her flower garden, reading, and making quilts and lap robes.

She was a member of the Pleasant View Church and later the Beloit First United Methodist Church.

In addition to her husband, Wayne, she was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Gary; and her sister, Dorothy Peterson.

Delores is survived by her two daughters, Marilyn Morrell and Kelli Powers and husband Todd, all of Arlington, KS; 9 grandchildren, Jeff, Stephanie, Timothy, Natalie, Lyndsey, Kasey, Whitney, Kaylyn, and Cody; 13 great grandchildren, Jennifer, Kain, Camden, Dagen, Delanie, Daxton, Adelyn, Eli, Levi, Dylan, Layla, Dawsyn, and Weston; her sister, Shirley Straight of St. John; daughter-in-law, Donna Morrell of Beloit; nephew, Carl and wife Kitty Wagner of Beloit; and a host of other relatives and friends.

James Warren Baughanpassed away peacefully Friday, February 21, 2020, at Brookdale Salina- Kirwin. He was born December 16, 1925, to Charles and Grace (Stephen) Baughan.

Jim grew up in Salina, Kansas. He attended Oakdale Elementary School and graduated from Salina High School. As a youngster, he had several jobs including a paper route and working at the Cozy Inn. During high school, his lifetime devotion to his nation began when he sold War Bonds to help finance World War II. He was named the top salesman of War Bonds in Saline County.

Upon graduation from high school, he followed his older brother, Bill and enlisted in the Marine Corps. Later his brother Bob, would also enlist in the Marines. “Brother Bill” and Jim saw combat in World War II and “Brother Bob” in the Korean War.

He was assigned to Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in Oceanside, California for training. During World War II, Jim served as corporal in the Marine Corps and was promoted to sergeant. In combat, he was sent to the Pacific Islands and was a warrior in the Battle of Iwo Jima Island. On February 19, 2020, on the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima, the Salina VFW Post 1432 honored Jim as one of two survivors of that battle living in Kansas. Ironically, he died two days later on February 21, which was the anniversary date of the second wave of soldiers to the island and his actual entry into combat at Iwo Jima.

His Marine Corps experience shaped him for life as service to his country and to the Marines was at the core of his soul. His lived out the Marine Corps League motto of “once a Marine, always a Marine.” He demonstrated his love for his country at every opportunity. He almost always wore a hat or jacket honoring the Marines or the USA with intermittent periods of wearing ball caps that were given to him by his grandchildren. For years, he would carry the American Flag in community parades in Salina. He was very involved in the Salina-Saline County War Memorial at Sunset Park and handled the inscriptions and placement of the memorial bricks that are part of the Memorial. He was involved for decades with the Marine Corps Toy Box program organized by the Tri Rivers Detachment of the Marine Corps League. He was charter member of the Detachment and officer.

On October 24, 1950, Bea Blom married CPL Jim Baughan at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in Oceanside, California. They were married for 67 years. Following his service in the Marine Corps, they settled in Salina and devoted the next two decades to raising five children. They lived on five acres just north of town; he was proud that he lived there for 65 years. In support of his children’s activities, he, and Bea made many trips with the Salina Silver Sabres Drum and Bugle Corps across Kansas and the nation accompanying the drum corps to competitions.

Upon returning to Salina after his military service, he was a car salesman at Long-MacArthur Ford for several years. He then began a career as truck driver for Graves Truck Line where he worked for 38 years and driving more than 1 million miles. After retiring, he continued driving tour buses, grain trucks and other vehicles for Salina companies.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Peacemakers Sunday School Class and was an usher at the church. For many years, he and Bea enjoyed hosting the Peacemakers Halloween Party. He also had the distinction of being the only person who had attended every reunion of the Nybro-Erickson family since the gathering began in 1953 in Dickinson County, Kansas where Bea grew up.

Jim was very proud of and dedicated to his 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He greatly enjoyed their frequent phone conversations and visits. He appreciated the devotion of his nephews and nieces, Steve, Kristie, Kelly, and Marce.

He was pre-deceased by his parents Charles and Grace, wife, Bea; son, Bruce; brothers William Baughan, John “Bob” Baughan and sister, Ruth Zych.

He was very involved in the Salina-Saline County War Memorial at Sunset Park and handled the inscriptions and placement of the memorial bricks that are part of the Memorial. He was involved for decades with the Marine Corps Toy Box program organized by the Tri Rivers Detachment of the Marine Corps League. He was charter member of the Detachment and officer.On October 24, 1950, Bea Blom married CPL Jim Baughan at Camp Pendleton Marine Corps Base in Oceanside, California. They were married for 67 years. Following his service in the Marine Corps, they settled in Salina and devoted the next two decades to raising five children. They lived on five acres just north of town; he was proud that he lived there for 65 years. In support of his children’s activities, he, and Bea made many trips with the Salina Silver Sabres Drum and Bugle Corps across Kansas and the nation accompanying the drum corps to competitions.Upon returning to Salina after his military service, he was a car salesman at Long-MacArthur Ford for several years. He then began a career as truck driver for Graves Truck Line where he worked for 38 years and driving more than 1 million miles. After retiring, he continued driving tour buses, grain trucks and other vehicles for Salina companies.He was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Peacemakers Sunday School Class and was an usher at the church. For many years, he and Bea enjoyed hosting the Peacemakers Halloween Party. He also had the distinction of being the only person who had attended every reunion of the Nybro-Erickson family since the gathering began in 1953 in Dickinson County, Kansas where Bea grew up.Jim was very proud of and dedicated to his 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. He greatly enjoyed their frequent phone conversations and visits. Arthur Charles Todd, also known as "Chuck," 63, of Salina, passed away Monday, Feb 24, 2020. He was born May 28, 1956, in Traverse City, Mich., the son of Charles and Harriet Todd.

Throughout his life he lived in many places where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his Harley, with Michigan being his primary residence. He also lived in Texas where he met the love of his life, Mickey Lynn Todd, and Kansas, which will be his final resting place.

Chuck is survived in life by his wife, Mickey Todd; sons, Edward, Robert, Chuck and Gregory; sisters, Roberta, Patricia, Carol and Jody; brothers, David and Daune; numerous nieces and nephews; 13 grandchildren, Alicia, Robin, Stephanie, Carman, Megan, Alana, Lincoln, Dylan, Taylor, Sierra, Hailey, Aiden and Abel; and one great-grandson, Luca.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles; stepfather, William; mother, Harriet; brother, James; nephew, Wade; and brothers-in-law, Kendall and Michael.

Genita D. Hughes, 83, La Crosse, Kansas, died Monday, February 24, 2020, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Genita was born August 3, 1936, in Rush Center, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Dora (Goatley) Solomon. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1954 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, she was in administration at the ASCS office in La Crosse, Kansas, before her retirement.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas, where she was currently the treasurer. She was a volunteer at A Second Chance, and up until recently, the chairman of the Blood Drive, both of La Crosse, Kansas. She was the current treasurer for the City of Rush Center, and Walnut Valley Senior Center, both of Rush Center, Kansas. She was also the current treasurer of the EUB Trust, and a member and current treasurer of the Sunflower Polka Club, Salina, Kansas. Genita enjoyed bowling, and was a member of a Thursday morning bowling team in Hays, Kansas.

On September 12, 1956, she married George R. Corsair at Glenwood Springs, Colorado. They later divorced.

On September 1, 1991, she married Kent N. Hughes at Sheridan County, Missouri. He preceded her in death December 31, 2004.

Lloyd LeRoy Norberg, 87, of Lindsborg passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Riverview Estates in Marquette.  Lloyd was born October 20, 1932 in Lindsborg to the late LeRoy and the late Miriam (Wheeler) Norberg.  

Lloyd married Mary Ann Martin on January 25, 1953 at Elim Lutheran Church. He was a United States Army veteran.  Lloyd was a local farmer and truck driver for many years.

He is survived by his daughter: Donna Reiner (Steven) of Newton, KS; sons: Glenn Norberg of Lindsborg, and Mark (Jodie) Norberg of Lindsborg;  sister: Mildred Lois Michos (George) of FL; brother: Les Norberg of Soldier, KS;  daughters-in-law, DeeAnne Johnson (Troy) of Marquette, and Paula Norberg of Lindsborg; as well as 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Mary Ann; son: Larry Norberg; and daughter-in-law: Teri Norberg.

Ruby Joyce Wytcherley, 94, of McPherson, KS passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020, surrounded by her family at The Cedars in McPherson.

She was born on January 22, 1926, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Lewie L. and Orpha M. (Smith) Hastriter. She graduated from Central Academy and College in McPherson, KS and Greenville College in Greenville, IL with a degree in biology in 1947. On August 27, 1947, Ruby was united in marriage to Stanley G. Wytcherley in McPherson. This union was blessed with three children, Linda, Gary, and Lori.

Ruby and Stan lived in Southern California for 44 years before moving back to McPherson in 1996. She was an elementary school teacher for most of her years in California. She loved to travel, having been to 39 countries including Israel five times and all 50 states.

Survivors include: husband, Stan of McPherson; children, Linda Lundquist (Karl) of Katy, TX, Gary Wytcherley (Betty Ann) of Fullerton, CA, and Lori Enderle (Steve) of McPherson, KS; a sister, Donna Hull (Bob) of McPherson, KS; three grandchildren, Juliana Seale (Andy) of Katy, TX, Danny Enderle (Nancy) of Odenton, MD, and Sarah O'Neal (Adam) of McPherson, KS; and nine great-grandchildren.

Constance Louise “Connie” Appel, 84, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020 in Ellsworth. She was born March 1, 1935 in Madison, KS, the oldest child of Glen I. and Waneta Fay (King) Redding. Connie spent nearly her entire life in the central Kansas communities of Bushton, Ellsworth, and Kanopolis. She had three siblings that she shared her fun-filled younger years with: Dale Redding of Augusta, KS, Don Redding of Bushton, and Carolin “Sue” Meier of Ellinwood, KS, who preceded her in death.

Connie married Albert “Popeye” Appel on February 26, 1955 and partnered a full and love-filled life together until Albert’s death in December of 2016. During their marriage, they had two sons, Jon (Sheri) of Manhattan, KS and Adam of Stillwater, OK. She was also blessed with four grandchildren, Jared, Logan, Aaron (Lindsey, and Adylee (Tyler) who she loved dearly.

Connie was known to be a very kind hearted mom, an aunt and friend to many nieces and nephews, and sister to the many people in her circle of life. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, playing cards, marbles, dominoes, and a “few” hot tub parties. Connie had a competitive streak against her husband which made for some spirited games. In her years in Bushton, she took on many tasks which included cooking at the local school, child care for various families that were temporarily in the area, running a concession stand for summer ball games, wine making, and fund raising for the troops in Vietnam. She loved dogs and cats, making homemade ice cream, and the road trips with Popeye to explore the back roads. While she was in Bushton, she was a member of the Bushton Methodist Church. In her later years, she lived in Ellsworth and Kanopolis and made many friends and continued entertaining. There, Connie and Popeye joined the Ellsworth First United Methodist Church to continue their faith.

During her twilight years after Albert’s passing, she lived at the Good Samaritan Home in Ellsworth where she was lovingly cared for by the staff as she suffered from dementia. As the sun was setting on life’s long road, she managed many smiles of love and appreciation to visiting family and friends and to the staff that were taking care of her.

Carol’s life began on February 15, 1949, in McPherson. She was the daughter of Bill and Virginia (Ayler) Richardson. Carol is a 1967 graduate of Kinsley High School. She was united in marriage to her husband of 33 years John Dvorak in July of 1986.&nbsp;

Carol held many jobs from driving trucks to being a rural mail carrier, but she especially loved her rural mail route. She enjoyed flower gardening, collecting giraffes and playing with her great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Longhorn Association. She enjoyed researching her genealogy and raising her goats.

Her greatest joy was her family which includes her husband, John Dvorak of Marion; children, Sherry Dvorak of Hesston, Derick (Rachel) Dvorak of Salina and Darrin (Rachel) Dvorak of Galva; grandchildren, Daniel (Annabel) Dvorak, Steven Fortner, Dakota Dvorak, Landon Dvorak, Jacqueline Dvorak, Eragon Dvorak, Derrick (Erica) Dvorak, Zachary Dvorak and Jessica (Matt) Dallas; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet (Glen) Slay of Watsonville, California and Rosanne ( John ) Jordan of Gunnison, Colorado, and sister-in-law, Janet Richardson.&nbsp;

Carol passed on Friday, February 21, 2020, at University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Steve Richardson.&nbsp;

Lee Campbell, age 90, of Concordia, Kansas, entered into rest on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on April 22, 1929 in Concordia, Kansas to Charles Kay and Vera (Wright) Campbell.

Lee graduated from Concordia High School and served in the US Air Force.&nbsp; While stationed in Mississippi, he met Gwendora “Gwen” Moody and they were married on July 5, 1952.&nbsp;

Lee was a certified mechanic and worked for the Chrysler dealership in Clay Center until moving to Belleville where he worked in maintenance for MC Industries until his retirement.&nbsp; Lee and Gwen moved to Concordia after his retirement.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Concordia; Masonic Lodge #128 AF &amp; AM, Belleville; ISIS Shrine, Salina &amp; VFW Post #7515, Concordia.

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah “Kay” Brown (James, Republic; sisters, Carolyn Chaput (Odette, Plainville &amp; Lois Johnston, Concordia; brother, Ron Campbell (Jane, Estero, FL; grandchildren, Cassandra L. He was born October 20, 1951 in Abilene the son of Paul P. “Pat” and Stella (Whitehair) Huston. He graduated from Abilene High School and worked for over 30 years for ADM Milling in Abilene. Kenny enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his friends and family.

Kenny is survived by his son Greg (Timberly Bowers) Huston of Abilene, Brother Leo Huston of Platte City, Missouri, Sister Patricia Ann Lane of Edmund, Oklahoma, grandchildren Lindsay Bowers and Matthew Bowers, and his great grandson Maxus Bowers. He was preceded in death by his son Christopher Huston, brother-in-law Ron Lane, and his parents.

The family has selected cremation and there will be no visitation. Please dress casually for the service. Harold “Butch” Johnson, 71 of Concordia, Kansas passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 in Casa Grande, Arizona.&nbsp; He was born September 20, 1948, in Nelson, Nebraska to Lowell and Mildred (Sprague) Johnson.&nbsp; Butch graduated from Jamestown High School in 1966 and enlisted in the US Navy in April of 1967.&nbsp; While in the Navy, he achieved Radarman Second Class and served tours in the Mideast and Mediterranean on the USS Stickell.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged in September 1970.&nbsp; After returning from the Navy, he attended Beloit Vo-tech studying electronics and became a journeyman power meter man.&nbsp; He worked 31 years at the power company, retiring in 2005 to become a full time farmer/rancher.

On March 20, 1971, he was united in marriage to Carmen Schou and they were married 48 years and 11 months working side-by-side.&nbsp; To this union two sons were born, Skeet and Jay.&nbsp;

Butch loved calf roping, good horses, farming, running cattle, and coaching youth baseball; but most importantly, he loved his family. During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and playing pickleball in Arizona.&nbsp; He was a proud husband, father, and grandfather.&nbsp; He had a love for music and could name songs and artists as well as tell you the history of so many.&nbsp; He was a walking encyclopedia full of knowledge and facts.&nbsp; Butch never met a stranger, loved to tell jokes, and enjoyed visiting with people in all walks of life.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife Carmen of the home;&nbsp; sons, Skeet (Brooke) Johnson (Basehor, KS, Jay (Stacie) Johnson (Parkville, MO); 6 grandchildren Cole, Mason, Cody, Caycee, Morgan, and Myles; sister Marjory Sollers (Roanoke, TX, sister-in-law Celise (Alan) Lawson (Agenda, KS, brother-in-law Einer (Connie) Schou (Cuba, KS); nieces and nephews, and many friends in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Leonard Bridgman, 85, of Belleville, Kansas, died on Friday, February 21, 2020 in Belleville, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on December 3, 1934 at Hooper, Nebraska.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include his Wife of 63 years, Carol; Brother Lee (Mardel) Bridgman; Daughters Lori (Jim) McDonald, Lisa Hedstrom, and Jodi (Kevin) Case; Grandchildren Ross McDonald, Clark (Stephanie) McDonald, Lance (Becca) Hedstrom, Lonisa (Josh) Melton, Landon Hedstrom, LaShae Hedstrom, Bryce (Karly) Case, Savanah Case, and Keaton Case, and four great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents Dwight and Edna Bridgman and Sister Phyllis Eichmeier and Brother Bill Bridgman.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He proudly served his country from 1953-56 in the United States Marine Corps.&nbsp; After returning from the military until 1965, Leonard worked for the Department of Utilities in Fremont, Nebraska where he also&nbsp;constructed a number of houses. He and his family moved to Belleville in 1965 to open a Coast to Coast Hardware Store that he and&nbsp;his wife owned and operated for 20 years.&nbsp; During that time, Leonard was involved in a number of community organizations including a Charter Member of the Belleville Country Club, Lions Club, Exalted Ruler of The Elk’s, and Grand View Housing Board.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Following retirement in 1985, Leonard and Carol enjoyed traveling&nbsp;throughout the United States and out of the country on numerous occasions.&nbsp; Leonard was an avid golfer, he loved to hunt and fish with his grandkids, and enjoyed trips to Colorado to snowmobile and ski.&nbsp; Winters were spent in the warmth of Arizona enjoying friends, golf, lawn bowling, and woodworking.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A memorial service will be held at the American Lutheran Church, Belleville, KS at 11:00 am. Monday, February 24, 2020.&nbsp; Prior to the service, family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:00 am at the Church. Friends are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship following the service.&nbsp; Memorials may be made to the “Leonard Bridgman Memorial”.

Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

Betty Ann Buhrman, 83, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2020, surrounded by her family at Brookdale in Salina, KS. She had been a hair stylist/licensed cosmetologist for over 50 years and owned and operated Betty’s Beauty Salon in Wisner, NE and Magic Mirror in McPherson, KS.

She was born December 22, 1936, in Beemer, NE, the daughter of Orville W. and LaVern H. (Engelhardt) Young. She graduated from Beemer High School in 1954 and also from the school of cosmetology in Norfolk, NE that same year. In 1955, she married Clarence R. Buhrman in Beemer, NE.

Betty was a member of the First Christian Church, McPherson Hospital Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, and Progressive Club. She enjoyed China painting, flower gardening, traveling, and playing the card game, Skip-Bo.

Survivors include: daughters, Kim Koehn (Danny) of McPherson, KS, Sheri Kaufman (Steve) of McPherson, KS, and Teri Haugen (Jeff) of Castle Rock, CO; six grandchildren, Justin Koehn (Melanie, Tyson Koehn (Sarah Undem, Anna Koehn (Sean Sandell, Travis Kaufman (Megan, Tyler Kaufman (Jennifer, and Taylor Haugen; four great-grandchildren, Gage Koehn, Madalynn Koehn, Soren Kaufman, and Siv Kaufman; an uncle, Jack Gardes (Erlene) of Bancroft, NE; favorite cousins, Pam Holtz of West Point, NE and Keri Wendt of Council Bluffs, IA; and many extended family and friends.

February 18, 1929~February 20, 2020(age 91)

Helmut was born on February 18, 1929 in Pforzheim, Germany.  He was the eldest son of Emil Hermann and Paulina (Heller) Hoelle. 

 Helmut was educated in Germany to be a train engineer and also attend marine training. 

 He immigrated to America in 1951 with his sister Margaeita to farm with his great uncle and aunt in Upland, Kansas which he did until he became a Marine in the USMC in 1954. 

 He served in the USMC for 4 years of active duty on a Navy ship as a MP in the Philippines.  He was honorably discharged in 1958 at the rank of Sergeant. 

 Helmut worked at Fort Riley as a steam fitter and was the shop foreman until his retirement. 

 He was united in marriage to Betty J. Vinton who preceded him in death in 2004. 

 Helmut loved to go camping and fishing and he and Betty were members of area camping groups for many years. 

 He was also very skilled at sewing and cross-stitching and could darn a sock better than anyone.  Helmut loved to collect, clean and crack black walnuts and made it an annual hobby to fill lots of jars and then give them to family and friends. 

He lived in in Junction City for several years until moving to Dwight, Ks where he live from 1972 to 2018 when he moved to Herington to simplify his life. 

He is survived by his brother, Ulrich Hoelle (Barbara) and step-brother Manfried Klein of Germany, sisters, Erika Dlugosch, Bavaria, Lieselotte Pohl, Germany,and Waltraud Bammes, Herington and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. 

 Helmut passed away in his home on February 21, 2020. 

 He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, an infant daughter Heidy Marie Hoelle and sisters Adelheid Mader and Margareta Painter. 

Helmut will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced in mid-March at the Kansas Veterans' Cemetery near Ogden.
