Robert “Bob” K. Kiser, 81, Salina, was born December 14, 1938 in rural Cloud County Kansas and died February 19, 2020 at his home.

Raised in the Delphos community graduated in 1956 a Delphos Maroon attended Kansas State University then graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Emporia State University.

Bob worked as a schoolteacher, coach, farmer, and retired from Exide Industries as a battery operator.&nbsp; Bob married Nancy Joan Richards in Scottsville, Kansas on April 13, 1968. She passed away February 14, 2004.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Cristina (Donald) Scheibler of Hays; his son, Terry (Elizabeth) of Powell, Wyoming; six grandchildren, Chase (Lexi) Scheibler, Augusta, Ky (Ashley) Scheibler, Dylan Scheibler all of Hays, Hunter, Hannah, and Noah Kiser all of Powell, Wyoming; four great grandchildren, Emma, Kaycee, Charli, and Remington; and his sister, Phyllis Maxine Shivers of Coffeyville, Kansas.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy; brother Grant Edward; &nbsp;brother-in-law, Raymond Shivers; nephew, Doug Kiser; and two nieces, Brenda Shivers and Lorri Scheibler.

Jettie F. Condray, 74, Minneapolis, died Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at his home.&nbsp; He was born March 31, 1945 near Miltonvale to Warren W. and Clara Genevieve (Fuller) Condray.

Jettie was a graduate of Miltonvale High School and he graduated from Kansas State University with a master’s degree in Elementary Education.&nbsp; Jettie and Mary M. “Peg” Wilkey were united in marriage on November 11, 1972.&nbsp; He taught school for many years and most recently served at the curator for the Ottawa County Museum for 25 years.&nbsp; Jettie was a longtime member of the Clay Center Reformed Presbyterian Church.

Survivors are his wife, Peg; sons, Chuck (Angelia, Jes (Laurisa, Joel (Amanda, and Kelly (Cindy); grandchildren, Justis, Lily, Knox, Kellen, Ally, Jake, Trevor, Tyler, Aaron, and Dusty; brother, Jerry (Doris) Condray; and sister, Janet Boss.

Shirley R. Cox-Schroeder, 66, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at her home in Ellsworth.

Shirley was born February 9, 1954 in Richmond, VA to Richard R. and Glennis H. Cox at Grace Hospital. As a child, she was baptized and received her bible from Westover Hills Methodist Church, Richmond. She grew up in Richmond, enjoying the arts, going to the park- Maymont was her favorite, spending time with friends, exploring nature, and swimming in the James River. In the Summer, she loved spending time at the Outer Banks of North Carolina, immersing herself in the surf, looking for shells, and watching the sun come up. In the fall, she loved the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, and could often be found camping with friends alongside a river.

In 1972, she graduated from Hugeonot High School in Richmond. She met her husband, Bob, in Richmond, and in 1987, along with her daughter Ashley, moved to Salina, KS, where she worked for Brown Welding as a purchasing agent. In 1988, she moved to Ellsworth, and worked for Cashco, Inc.

Shirley was a landscape photographer and enjoyed the solitude. In addition, she thoroughly enjoyed genealogy, researching all of her family’s history back to the 1700’s. It was a fascination of hers knowing who her ancestors were and where she came from. She enjoyed reading, and you could often find her nose buried in a book or news article when she wasn’t taking her grandson Lucas on little adventures here and there, or traveling to Colorado with her husband, Bob. She fell into being a sports photographer for the Ellsworth Independent-Reporter and covered the Ellsworth Bearcats, Wilson Dragons, and Central Plains Oilers. She enjoyed this immensely, getting to know not only the coaches, but also the student athletes. In the 5 years of taking pictures of the coaches and student athletes, every one of them left an impact on her heart and in her life. It was a great disappointment to her when her health began to deteriorate, and she could no longer take pictures of “her kids.”

Most importantly, out of all her accomplishments, her daughter Ashley was the greatest achievement of her life. There wasn’t a day that went by that she wasn’t proud of her and her accomplishments. Ashley would later marry and have a son, Lucas. Needless to say, Lucas had her wrapped around his finger from day one. There was nothing Nana wouldn’t do for “her Lucas.”

Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Glennis H. Cox in 1982, and her father, Richard R. Cox in 1999.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Bob of the home; her precious daughter, Ashley Reynolds Barta of Salina; her heart of hearts, grandson, Lucas J. Barta of Olathe, KS; a loving step-daughter, Lacy Benter (Conan) of Hills, IA; and precious step-grandchildren, Iris and Hazel Benter, as well as her dear cousin, Suzanne Crump Ruark of Deltaville, VA, and several other special cousins and friends for whom she considered her family. Shirley was loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2020 at the Assembly of God Church, Ellsworth with Pastor Exie Barber officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln, KS.

He attended Circle Schools and was a welder at Desert Steel and a sandblaster at Southwest Valve. He was a jack-of-all-trades and enjoyed working on cars and riding four-wheelers. He was a caregiver for his daughter Carrie “Annie” until her passing.

His loving family includes his mother, Jane Hampton of Potwin; girlfriend, Mary Ann Smith of El Dorado; siblings, Rebecca “Becky” Builta of Potwin, Kim Trumpower of El Dorado, Cheryl Lewis of El Dorado and Jared Lee Hampton of Potwin; nieces and nephews, Melissa Boyer, Jessica Ritter, Justin Builta, and Christopher Hampton.

He was preceded in death by his father; daughter, Carrie “Annie” Hampton; nephew, Jeremy Day and a brother-in-law, Kenny Builta. &nbsp;Pete passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at the age of 56 years old.

Mike R. Blanding, 79, Kansas City, formerly of Silver Lake, passed away Friday, February 14, 2020.

He was born April 7, 1940, in Barnard, Kansas, the son of Floyd and Marjorie (Hood) Blanding. He graduated from Barnard High School in 1958. He received a Bachelor's Degree from Kansas State University. Mike was a US Navy veteran.

He was an insurance agent in Topeka for many years. Later, he was mail carrier for the Silver Lake Post Office. After retiring, he began working part-time at Lowe’s in Topeka.

Mike was a member of Silver Lake United Methodist Church and the American Legion in Silver Lake.

In August 1963, he married Marilyn Kay Husted in Minneapolis, Kansas. She preceded him in death on June 13, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents.

On August 7, 1999, he married Peggy Joyce Herbel in Silver Lake, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Mitch (Shelly) Blanding and Monte Blanding, all of Lenexa, KS; brother, Don Blanding, Moore, OK; four grandchildren, Brianna, Dalton, Max, and Leo Blanding; 3 step-children, Randy (Amy) Herbel, Rhonda (Joel) Eckelman, and Royce Herbel; 11 step-grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Mike enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities and was an avid K-State fan.

The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 21, 2020 at Parker-Price Reception Center, 1940 NW Central Ave., Topeka. (Directly south of the funeral home). Private services and interment will be at Silver Lake Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Lydia (Wollert) Friebus; husband Glen H. Stull; sisters, Ella RumLey, Emma Smith, May Friebus, Elsie Sebesta; brothers, Mel Friebus, Ernest Fiebus

Survivors include her daughter, Loretta Barrentine; granddaughter, Christina Strickland; great grandsons, Robert Hamilton and Bryan Strickland; brother, Leo Friebus; many nieces and nephews.

Violet loved being outdoors, planting flowers and lawncare. She really enjoyed reading, sewing and crocheting. Her favorite Hymn was “How Great Thou Art”.

Violet worked in the kitchen washing dishes and did preparatory work for cooks at Sahara Supper Club from 1953-1958, Wilson Livestock Café from 1963-1973, Beverly Sale Barn Café from 1965-1966 and Farmers and Rancher’s Café from 1966-2002 when she retired.

Visitation will be Monday, February 24, 2020 from 2-7 PM with family from 5-7 PM at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford, Salina.

Vernon R. Snider, age 91, of Mankato, KS entered into rest on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at the Mitchell County Hospital.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born on September 25, 1928 in Wichita Falls, TX to JR and Fannie (Hightower) Snider.

Vernon was a graduate of Wichita Falls High School. He then went on to Perkins School of Theology at SMU where he met his loving wife while doing missionary work.

Vernon was a member of the Lions Club, Shriners, Jewell County Lodge #11 AF AM for 61 years , and the Retired Methodist Ministers group.

He loved his family and delighted in telling stories and jokes. He also enjoyed being an amateur radio operator, enjoyed photography, sailing, computer work, and anything electronic. He was just an all-around gadget guy.

Vernon served as a United Methodist Minister for over 50 years. During that time, he had over 23 different charges. He enjoyed the many people and friends he met over all those years.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, Mankato, KS; son, Tim (Rita) Snider, Derby, KS; son, Peter David (Milly) Snider, Milford, NH; daughter, Deb (Dave) Warne, Mankato, KS; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, JR and Fannie.

Peggy Anderson Watts, 97, died Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Pleasant View Home, Inman, Kansas.

Peggy was born June 7, 1922, in Hill City, Kansas, to Flora Charlotte Sickler and Frederick Steiner. Her mother remarried Oba Braxton “Jack” King and Peggy used King as her surname throughout her adult life. She attended Roosevelt Grade School, McPherson Junior High and in 1940 graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas.

Peggy and Irvin M. Anderson were married January 1, 1941, in McPherson and enjoyed their 44 years together. They lived in Salina, Hutchinson and Russell, Kansas. After retirement, they moved from Russell to McPherson in 1976 and opened The Olde Deli, which operated for 10 years. Irvin died in February 1985.

After the sale of the deli, Peggy managed the McPherson Senior Center Food Service for several years. She was an active volunteer at McPherson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and McPherson County Food Bank.

She especially liked socializing with friends and family and was an avid Bridge player. Peggy also enjoyed needlework, knitting, traveling and cooking. She was still making delicious scratch cinnamon rolls in her 90s.

On February 2, 2009, she and Raymond R. Watts, Jr., were married at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, McPherson. They met while volunteering at McPherson County Food Bank and thoroughly enjoyed their short time together. Ray died on January 5, 2011.

After Ray’s death, Peggy moved first to Pleasant View Estates in Inman then to Ivy Grove at Pleasant View, where she resided until her death. She loved her new home and friends, and staff members were so kind, she could not have wished for better care.

Peggy is survived by her children, Charlotte Crawford (Kent, Knoxville, Tennessee, Marietta Anderson and Michael Anderson, both of Wichita, Kansas.

She is also survived by grandchildren Lara Crawford (Dan Brown, Clare Crawford (David Palmer, Jimmy Miller (Patricia) and Joseph Miller (Brenna, 14 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Irvin Anderson and Raymond Watts; her brothers Gladwin “Jack,” Marvin, Hollis, Kenneth (Joyce, Gilbert Norwood King; sisters Ellen Palmatier, Charlene Martin, son-in-law Warren Norton and close extended family Dorothy and Robert Laird.

A memorial service will be held Monday, February 24, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 111 N. Pine, Inman, Kansas. Lunch follows the service.

Walter (Walt) Richard Lips passed away on February 18th, 2020, while in hospice care at the Presbyterian Manor, Clay Center, KS, where he resided. Walt was born in Columbus, NE on June 8, 1925, to Fritz Rudolf and Emilie (Behle) Lips. Walt’s father was born in Basel, Switzerland and Walt was very proud of his Swiss heritage. Walt is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dora Deane (Hartman) Lips. Walt and Dora Deane met in 1946 at the Gingham Apron Café in Clay Center. Walt was working in the area as a surveyor for REA. Walt and Dora Deane owned and operated several businesses during their long life together: the last one being Metal Muncher. Walt attended KSU, was in the Navy Air Corps, played bagpipes in the ISIS Shrine Pipes &amp; Drums, and all in all lived a very full life. He is also preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, one brother, and son-in-law Paul Pinter.

John Owen Dalke, 55, passed away on Feb. 17, 2020 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS. John was born October 21, 1964, in Hillsboro, Kansas. 

He attended Hillsboro schools and graduated with the class of 1983. 

John enjoyed playing football and golf, serving as the basketball manager, participating in debate, forensics and vocal music throughout high school. In 1987, he received his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Kansas. He remained at KU to receive his Master’s of Business Administration in 1989. 

John worked as a Real Estate broker at the Real Estate Center in Hillsboro. 

He was an avid KU sports fan and bowler. 

He was active in his community through his service in the Son’s of American Legion, Post 366, and the Hillsboro Kiwanis Club. John especially enjoyed being Santa Claus for the Marion County Toy Run. 

John was preceded in death by his grandparents, A.H. and Doris Dalke, and Julius and Martha Penner; his uncles, Paul Dalke and James Dalke; and his aunt Karen Penner. 

He is survived by his parents, John and Delores Dalke of Hillsboro; his brother Mark (Pat, of Hillsboro; his brother Matt (Jamey) of Chapman; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, February 22, at Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church, rural Hillsboro. Pastor Gaylord Goertzen will officiate. John Owen Dalke

Peggy Jean Adee was born on January 5, 1935, the daughter of Paul D. &amp; Helen I. (Wilkinson) Rogers. She passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020, at the Belleville Health Care Center, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 11 days.

Peggy was raised near Haddam, and attended Haddam Schools, graduating from Haddam High School in 1953. Peggy later attended Cloud County Community College, where she earned her certificate in Healthcare Administration.

She married Robert Adee in 1953, and to this union, seven children were born. Robert and Peggy were later divorced.

Peggy enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and the occasional trip to the casino. She also enjoyed reading her many books, and knitting. While she wasn’t able to take as many trips as she would have liked to Peggy enjoyed travelling when she had the chance to.

Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, and her great-granddaughter Kamryn Aufdengarten.

Left to cherish her memories are her children; daughters Joan Pape and her husband Larry of Washington; June Stafford of Dacona, Colorado, and Roberta Verhoek and her husband Randy of Danbury, Texas; sons Jack Adee and his wife Kathy of Haddam; Rex Adee and his wife Robin of Arcadia, Oklahoma; Roger Adee of Republic; and Herbert Adee and his wife Liz of Lake Latawana, Missouri; she is also survived by her brother, Grant Tarmen and his wife Linda, of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Peggy is also survived by her grandchildren: Diana Aufdengarten (Brian, Melissa Pape, Robert Pape, Sarah Isaacson (Greg, Josh Stafford (Christina, Jack Adee, Jr. (Tara, Amanda Sufi (Musab, Cassandra Smith (Michael, Rochelle Lazzo (Victor, Rebeka Verhoek, Ryan Adee (Samantha, Regan McWhirter (Chris, Rhame Adee (Meghan, Tabathia Dunn (David, Robert Adee, Miranda Weddington (Anthony, Jordan Adee, and Alex Gaughran; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Direct cremation was chosen, there will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at 1:00 p.m., at the Mahaska City Cemetery, Mahaska, Kansas. Following the service, the family will greet friends at the Haddam City Hall.

Clarence Elmer Brown was born December 25, 1933 to Edwin E. and Nellie R. (Moore) Brown near Washington, Kansas. He departed this life, Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the age of 86 years at the Republic County Hospital in Belleville, Kansas.

At the age of 3, Elmer moved with his parents to a farm south of Haddam, Kansas. He attended Lindsey and Haddam Grade School. He graduated from Haddam High School with the Class of 1951. Elmer attended and graduated from Fairbury Nebraska Jr. College in 1953. He taught school for 12 years, then worked for the engineering department of the Kansas State Highway Department from 1965 to 1992, when he retired.

Elmer married Norma Jean Welch of Haddam on August 16, 1953. To this union four children were born: Barbara Jean, Robert Dean, Brenda Sue, and Bruce Alan.

His wife, Norma, of 58 ½ years passed away in 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother Lawrence Brown.

He will be forever remembered by his children Barbara Racette and husband Terry, Robert and wife Rebecca, Brenda Thomas and husband Russell, and Bruce and wife Ronda; his nine grandchildren and their spouses; five great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Clarence Elmer Brown

Jeffrey Allyn Strnad, son of Shirley Eugene and Jessie Marie (Houdek) Strnad, was born on September 25, 1960 in Topeka, Kansas. Jeff grew up around Scandia, and graduated from Scandia High School. Following high school, Jeff attended Kansas State University, where he majored in Ag. Economics.

Following college, Jeff returned to the Scandia area, where he worked for his dad at Republican Valley Cattle Feeders. Jeff’s true passion was farming and the land. During his lifetime, Jeff worked at United Grain, Nesika Energy and Premium Feeders, and he was very involved in all parts of the business operations.&nbsp;

Jeff was a member of the Church of God, a Worldwide Association, of Wichita, and was involved in many church activities. Jeff’s favorite bible book was Job and its teachings.

Outside of work and church, Jeff had many hobbies, and liked to stay busy. He enjoyed reading, and military history. Jeff also enjoyed flying airplanes, and was a very good pilot. He liked firearms and was an accomplished ammunition reloader, keeping meticulous journals on powders and reload performances. Along with firearms, Jeff loved fireworks, and putting together spectacular fireworks performances at the cabin for family and friends. Jeff also enjoyed working with wood and wood turning, making many wooden bowls.

On Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the age of 59 years, 4 months and 21 days, Jeff passed away peacefully at his home, with his wife and son at his bedside.

Jeff is preceded in death by his parents, and son Alexander Jordan Strnad in 2008.

He will be forever remembered by his wife, Tracy, and son Seth Alexander of the home. His sisters, Chandra Stuchlik (John) of Scandia; Kristine of Salina; Elizabeth (Jeff) Lahodny of Lindsborg, LeAnn Strnad of Glen Elder and Stacy Davis (David) of Elmdale, Kansas. Jeff is also survived by aunts, uncles, many cousins, and a community of friends.

A celebration of Jeff’s life will take place later this year, details are pending and will be announced at a later date.

Jeffrey Allyn Strnad, son of Shirley Eugene and Jessie Marie (Houdek) Strnad, was born on September 25, 1960 in Topeka, Kansas. Jeff grew up around Scandia, and graduated from Scandia High School. Following high school, Jeff attended Kansas State University, where he majored in Ag. Economics.Following college, Jeff returned to the Scandia area, where he worked for his dad at Republican Valley Cattle Feeders. Jeff’s true passion was farming and the land. During his lifetime, Jeff worked at United Grain, Nesika Energy and Premium Feeders, and he was very involved in all parts of the business operations.&nbsp;Jeff was a member of the Church of God, a Worldwide Association, of Wichita, and was involved in many church activities. Jeff’s favorite bible book was Job and its teachings.Outside of work and church, Jeff had many hobbies, and liked to stay busy. He enjoyed reading, and military history. Jeff also enjoyed flying airplanes, and was a very good pilot. He liked firearms and was an accomplished ammunition reloader, keeping meticulous journals on powders and reload performances. Along with firearms, Jeff loved fireworks, and putting together spectacular fireworks performances at the cabin for family and friends. Jeff also enjoyed working with wood and wood turning, making many wooden bowls.On Saturday, February 15, 2020, at the age of 59 years, 4 months and 21 days, Jeff passed away peacefully at his home, with his wife and son at his bedside.Jeff is preceded in death by his parents, and son Alexander Jordan Strnad in 2008.He will be forever remembered by his wife, Tracy, and son Seth Alexander of the home. His sisters, Chandra Stuchlik (John) of Scandia; Kristine of Salina; Elizabeth (Jeff) Lahodny of Lindsborg, LeAnn Strnad of Glen Elder and Stacy Davis (David) of Elmdale, Kansas. Steven Wayne Patterson, 65, died early Tuesday morning February 18, 2020 at Diversicare of Council Grove after a tough-fought battle with Fronto Temporal Dementia. He was born April 6, 1954, in Junction City, Kansas to Ed and Hazel (Olson) Patterson.

He was the third of six children. He grew up in rural Dwight and attended 1st and 2nd grades at Hillsdale Grade School and&nbsp;&nbsp;3rd-8th &nbsp;at Dwight Grade School and attended high school in Council Grove, graduating with the class of 1972. At CGHS he was active in Brave Voices and was a member of the Braves basketball team, where he was known for his patented “left-handed jump shot.” It was there he met Teena Scott with whom he dated for most of high school and eventually married on March 1, 1975. She preceded him in death in 2007.

Steve and Teena traveled for the next few years with Steve’s job at Neosho Construction. After traveling for a few years, they settled down in Council Grove and in 1986 Steve went to work for Frito Lay out of Topeka, where he worked for&nbsp;29 years. In February 1984 they welcomed their first daughter, Brittany, followed by their second daughter, Samantha, in July 1985.

Steve was an avid farmer and loved to take care of the ground around which he and his family resided. In addition to driving for Frito Lay and farming, Steve also auctioneered for many years with Macy Auctions. He was known for coming in from Frito Lay straight home to the field to work ground and then get up the next day to be at an auction bright and early. He worked hard and was a friend and neighbor to anyone who needed help. But what Steve was most proud of were his two daughters and he was always rushing back to get to whatever activity they were involved in. Whether it was ball games, dance recitals, or 4-H events, Steve was always excited to be a part of their activities.

Steve married Rosann Otte on June 19, 2010. They were grateful for the years they were given and enjoyed life’s simple pleasures.

He was preceded in death by his father, his younger brother Larry, and his first wife Teena.

He is survived by his wife Rosann Patterson of Council Grove, mother Hazel Patterson of Junction City, his daughters, Brittany Fox and husband Matt of Herington, and Samantha Arredondo and husband Agustin of Eudora, sisters Dee Mayer and husband Ken of Shawnee, Carolyn Scott and Cheryl Patterson of Dwight, brother Darrell Patterson and wife Kerry of Shawnee; grandchildren Julian Arredondo, Evelyn Arredondo, and Knute Fox.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5:30-7:00pm, Thursday, February 20, 2020, at the Council Grove/Dunlap United Methodist Church. Funeral services will also be held at the church on Friday, February 21st, at 10:00am. A private family burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

James Robert Roesner, 64, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2020. He was born July 26, 1955.

James was a loving husband, father, son and brother.

He is survived by his daughters, Lauren Knitter (Joe, of Castle Rock, Colo., and Alexandra, of Salina; granddaughter, Lily Knitter; mother, Mary; and seven siblings.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 21, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. Rosary service will precede the Mass at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Warren Alvin Youngdied peacefully Monday, Feb. 17, 2020 in Salina, Kan., at the age of 99. Warren was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Salina to Charles Peter Young and Nellie E. (Anderson) Young.

His father, Charles, was a carpenter who built homes and commercial spaces throughout Salina and Western Kansas. The financial crash of 1929 impacted the demand for new construction, so the Young family turned their hand to farming on a 100-acre plot near Hedville. The family continued to farm successfully throughout the 1930's despite the difficulties of the Great Depression and Dust Bowl era.

Warren graduated from Bavaria High School in 1939. During his high school years he enjoyed singing, basketball, baseball, tennis and 4-H Club. In the fall of 1939, he enrolled at Kansas Wesleyan University, but dropped out after three semesters to join the war effort in California with his cousin, Royal Anderson, who was employed at Lockheed Corporation building aircraft for the U.S. Air force. After six weeks of aircraft school Warren was employed at Lockheed as a skin fitter on the P-38 Lightning fighter at the 3-G's plant in San Fernando, Calif.

On Dec. 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, prompting Warren to enlist in the Army Air Corp. He reported to Merced Air Force Base on April 1, 1942. He had an interest in cadet pilot's training, but being color-blind, could not pass the pilot training test. Instead, he chose to complete his certification as an aircraft tech, where he learned engine overhaul, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, propeller drives and how to be part of an air crew.

Warren was deployed to Pearl Harbor in the spring of 1944, where he witnessed the destruction of the ships bombed in 1941. From Hawaii, his B-24 Liberator crew was ordered west to perform photo reconnaissance missions covering Johnson Island, Kwajalein, Guam, the Philippines and Okinawa. When arriving on Okinawa the fighting with the Japanese was still going on in the middle of the island around Ishikawa and the Northern end of the 80-mile long island. Warren remained on Okinawa through the surrender of Imperial Japan on Aug. 15, 1945.

After four years of military service, Warren returned to Salina in 1946 to complete his college education at Kansas Wesleyan University. During his post-war stint at KWU, he was very involved with the philharmonic choir, where he became reacquainted with Laureen Fish. Eventually they fell in love and married on Oct. 5, 1946.

The couples' first son, Royce, was born Jan. 13, 1949, the same year Warren graduated from KWU with a degree in business administration. Fresh out of college, he was employed by Sears, Roebuck and Company as a management trainee. Shortly thereafter, their second son, Lee, was born April 3, 1950. Their third son, Kevin, was born Feb. 12, 1958.

Warren worked for Sears more than thirty years, while Laureen, a registered nurse, worked as a nursing instructor at Asbury Hospital School of Nursing. He managed many departments in the Salina Sears stores, and eventually managed a territory out of Kansas City in commercial sales. In their free time, they enjoyed traveling around the United States with their three sons in their camper.

In addition to love for his family, Warren was dedicated to serving others through his strong convictions and Christian faith. He and Laureen routinely volunteered at Red Bird Mission in Kentucky, to assist people living in chronic poverty in Appalachia. The couple were very active in supporting KWU, where Warren served on the board of trustees from 1988 to 1995. As a skilled carpenter, Warren was also heavily involved with Habitat for Humanity and helped build over 26 homes in Saline County. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Salina and participated in multiple local charities.

Warren is survived by his children, Royce (Donna, Lee (Christine) and Kevin (Rhonda); his grandchildren, Travis, Erica, Jessica and Jilly; and his great-grandchildren, Liam, Aidan and Kaiya. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laureen.

Warren Alvin Young will be greatly missed by his family and the people whose lives he impacted. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at First United Methodist Church in Salina, followed by a graveside service at Roselawn Memorial Park. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Warren's life. There will be a visitation from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, with the family receiving friends from 4-6 p.m., at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.

Pamela K. Norstrom, 72, passed away at 9:30 p.m. on February 10, 2020, surrounded by her family after a nearly three year battle with cancer. Pam was born on December 2, 1947, in McPherson, Kansas. She was the daughter of Wallace and Marie (Nelson) Lindberg.

Pam grew up on a farm northeast of Galva, Kansas and attended Prairie Queen and Peaceful Prairie country schools. In 1959, she transferred into the Galva school system as a 7th Grader. Pam was active in high school, participating in plays, music and cheerleading. She graduated high school in 1965.

Pam and her brother, Steve, were also very active in the Empire Best 4-H club for several years. She held a number of different posts at both the club and county-wide levels. Pam and Steve both showed Shorthorn cattle and were active in the Kansas Junior Shorthorn Association. Pam was the Kansas Shorthorn Lassie Queen in 1966. The friendships made through 4-H and Shorthorn association remained strong throughout her life.

After graduating from the Brown Mackie School of Business, Pam moved to Topeka Kansas, and worked for the Internal Revenue field office. It was during this time, she became engaged to Lanny, and they were married on June 22, 1969. Pam kept fond memories of friends she made during the early years of their marriage and the church family at Westside Christian. Both sons, Michael and Eric, were born in Topeka. Last June, Pam and Lanny celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Canton fair grounds with a night filled with lots of fun, laughter, and music from the Triple play band.

Pam lost her brother, Steve, to brain cancer in 1974 at the age of 25. The decision was made to move back to the Galva area to help with the farm and be closer to both sets of parents. Lanny went to work for Home Telephone Company, and Pam took a position at McPherson County Extension Service. Mike and Eric followed in their mother's footsteps and joined the Empire Best 4-H club, and naturally showed cattle for one of their projects. They also made lifelong 4-H friends. Eric also learned how to hypnotize chickens. That a boy! Those were busy but happy times for Pam and her family, when slow down didn’t seem like an option. But looking back, she wouldn’t have changed a thing.

The family became very involved in the Galva Christian Church, the church in which Pam grew up. She was the regional Disciple Women’s president for two years and had friends in pretty much every Disciples church in the state of Kansas. Her work with the church was a major focus of her life, especially in the latter year. Again, the friendships formed here were strong and lasting.

One of the few low points of Pam and Lanny’s years together was June 15, 1992, when an F5 tornado came through the neighborhood. It was ¾ of a mile wide when it hit the Norstrom farm and didn’t leave much behind. Miraculously, no one was injured so there was a lot to be thankful for. So many people showed up to help the next morning that not everyone could find anywhere to park. Pam said that’s just how things work in the country, and certainly showed the power of strong friendships formed.

Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Marie, her brother, Steven, and grandparents, Art and Myrtle.

She leaves behind: her husband, Lanny; two sons, Mike and wife, Karla, and Eric and wife, Treva; sister-in-law, Cathy Irwin; four grandchildren, Zach and Drew (Mike’s) and Taryn and Ryder (Eric’s); uncle, Charles Lindberg; and cousins, Rhonda Lindberg (and son, Jonathon, Rene Lindberg, Kristine Lindberg (and daughter, Jennifer, Ty Zeiner (his children, Brad, Chelsea, Joel, and Julia Zeiner, and Chris Zeiner.

Pam’s family wants to thank everyone for your love, support, phone calls, cards, visits and prayers. WE LOVE YOU. Our time together has been a great ride!

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, March 6, 2020, at the Galva Christian Church. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, March 7, at the Galva Christian Church with Pastor Tripp Edwards officiating.

On Wednesday, February 5th, 2020 at 3:30 pm in her room at Diversicare of Council Grove, Dorothy Edith Braun went to her eternal home at the age of 84, where she was joyfully received by&nbsp;her longtime Savior Jesus Christ and reunited with her young son David Paul, who entered Heaven at the age of 6 in 1966.&nbsp;

Dorothy's life was characterized by her commitment to Christ, which began at the age of 14.&nbsp; Born on July 30, 1935 in Powell, Wyoming to Dick and Mary Sievers, she was one of six children.&nbsp;She received her bachelor's degree at Northwestern University in Minneapolis, MN where she met her future husband Ralph Braun of Council Grove, KS. They graduated from Northwestern,&nbsp;married on June 8, 1957, headed to Dallas Theological Seminary and from there into many churches, hearts and homes across the United States over their 62 years married and in the ministry. Dorothy was a born homemaker, creating amazing meals, hostessing many feasts and themed parties and raising each of her five children to know in their cradles the name of the Lord. Her children will tell you that she never raised her voice to them in anger, was the epitome of selflessness and sacrificial love, taught countless lessons by example, and sang and hummed her way through life, always pointing out the beauty of nature and God's creation, whether by identifying birds, flowers and rocks by day or constellations by night. She loved gardening, kept meticulous family history records, and read her Bible through many times. Her friends will tell you she was one of a kind, a truly godly wealth of wisdom and a woman who knew and loved the word of God and its Author. Her caregivers might whisper that she was a favorite, that she always listened and gently guided to a better and higher way. Her husband will freely share how blessed he was to be united in matrimony to his Proverbs 31 woman. Her grandchildren will boast of her flaky croissants, decadant chocolate cream roll, their many games of progressive rummy, shared love of old books, her letters to them, her unconditional love and abiding faith. And her great grandchildren were the delight of her twilight years. Dorothy loved well and her legacy is her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her desire that they walk in truth and God's love all the days of their lives, as she did.

She is survived by her husband Ralph Braun, and son Steven Braun (Cyndi)of Brookings, OR, and daughters Kim Bacon (Dan, Karen Jackson (James, and Mary Allen (Richard) of Council Grove, KS, as well as 22 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

A memorial service honoring Dorothy's life&nbsp;will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 21st, 2020 at the Council Grove Christian Church, located at 106 West Main Street, Council Grove, KS. Flowers and donations may be sent to this location as well. The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Council Grove Christian Church. After the service there will be a reception time for sharing memories and visiting with the family. A private family burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery.&nbsp;
