John’s life began November 3, 1957, the son of Eldred and Flora (Hoerner) Zeiner and step father Richard Martin. He went to school in Lost Springs, KS.

John was the owner of L &amp; J Tire in Herington, KS since 2007. Previously he worked at the rock quarry where he met his wife Linda Jane. They were married on September 18, 2004 in a beautiful outdoor wedding at Herington Lake. John loved to hunt, fish and restore old vehicles. But his true passion was helping others. He was involved in the U.S. Honor Flight and the Herington Hearts Core Community.

His loving family includes his wife, Linda Jane of Lost Springs, KS; 3 children, Colleen (Chris) Garr of Cottonwood Falls, KS; Derek (Tonya) Summers of Herington, KS; Jeff Summers of Lost Springs KS; 5 Grandchildren, Linda, Christopher, Christina and Johnathon Garr and Austin Summers; 2 Great-Grandchildren, Remington and Donald Bennett; sisters, Linda (Tim) Douglas of Abilene, KS; Flora (Dale) English of Paducah, KY; Vera Davis of Junction City, KS; Betty Wheeler of Herington, KS; &nbsp;brothers, David (Mary) Zeiner of Herington KS; and Tommy Zeiner.

John passed away on August 12, 2020 at the age of 62 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents Eldred and Flora Zeiner, step-father Richard Martin and one brother Butchy.

Louise Beckman, 102 passed through death to eternal life on August 4, 2020. She lived in Lindsborg, Kansas for fifteen years. She was born and reared in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area. Louise and her husband Rev. Axel Beckman served congregations in East Orange, New Jersey, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Jamestown, New York, Kansas City Missouri, New Orleans, Louisiana, Duncanville, Texas, and Seminole, Florida.

In her youth, Louise was an avid tennis player and enjoyed ice skating in the winter. She was a wonderful pastor’s spouse who consistently showed love, compassion, forgiveness, and confidentiality. She was a women’s ministry leader in every congregation they served.

She is remembered for her humor, for loving others, her playful/ teasing manor, and her strong faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. Louise treasured her friendships with many all over the country. She dearly loved and cared for her family.

Louise is survived by her daughter Janice Rathlef and her husband John from Lindsborg, Kansas; her son J.T. Beckman and his wife Usha from Beaumont, Texas; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Axel Beckman and her son, Jim Beckman.

&nbsp; Mary Anna Purcell, 91, died Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Salina Regional Health Center. She was born April 7, 1929 to Guy and Mary (Fairbairn) Crowe. She was the youngest of seven children, raised on the farm five miles north and 1 mile east of Coldwater, Kansas. She attended New Home Grade School, Coldwater High School, and Salt City Business College, Hutchinson, Kansas. Mary Anna was married to Roy E. Purcell on September 4, 1949. She was employed by People’s State Bank, Comanche County Conservation District, transferring to FSA as a program technician before retiring in 1992. Mary Anna and Roy moved to Salina in 1993 to be closer to their daughters, Saryl (Tom) Johnson and Joni (Kirk) Sticker. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Roy in 2015; 2 sisters; and 4 brothers. Survivors include her daughters, Saryl and Tom Johnson of Minneapolis, Kansas and Joni and Kirk Stricker of Wichita; 6 grandchildren, Addie (Kal) Abushousheh, Katie (Kent) Constable, Micah Copeland, Kindl Shaw, Ben Stricker, Tim (Taylor) Stricker; 6 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ellen Erwin; brother-in-law, Ralph Purcell; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary Anna loved to play the piano and organ, developing that talent since playing for her church at age 15. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was a member of Salina NARFE and VFW Lifetime Auxiliary member. She loved living her final years at Arbor Court. There will be no visitation or funeral that this time. Private burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery, Coldwater, Kansas at a later date. Martha Katherine Bell

Marjorie Fay (Smith) Lindstrom, 91, went to her heavenly home August 10, 2020, from her earthly home in Falun, KS.&nbsp; She was born September 16, 1928, in Salina, KS, to Paul Vestal Smith and Matilda (Allan) Smith.&nbsp; She was the fifth of five children born to this couple.&nbsp; Her kind, compassionate, loving, and generous heart will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She attended Kansas State University on a Union Pacific scholarship.&nbsp; She returned to her home on weekends to work in the family dairy, delivering milk.&nbsp; While in Manhattan, she worked at Yeo and Trubey’s.&nbsp; She left college to care for her widowed mother.&nbsp; She and her mother moved to Beaverton, Oregon for 11 months to work for Birds Eye frozen foods.&nbsp; Upon return to Salina, she attended Brown Mackie School of Business.&nbsp; She is a member of Phi Rho Zeta sorority of Brown Mackie.&nbsp; Following her education at Brown Mackie; Mr. Mackie, the school director, was instrumental in getting her a job at Robinson Milling Company as the Office Manager, working for Edmund Morgenstern the Director of Milling.&nbsp; Robinson Milling was sold in 1967.&nbsp; At that time, Marjorie became a bank auditor and the bank president’s secretary at First State Bank and Trust.&nbsp; During the 20 years that she worked at First State Bank, it transitioned to being a bank and trust.&nbsp; When the bank was sold, she became the office manager for Gibson’s Discount Center of Salina.&nbsp; During her five years of employment, she managed putting their five stores on the computer.&nbsp; She left Gibson’s to devote more time to her mother who was in a nursing home in Marquette, KS.

On April 29, 1967, Marjorie was united in marriage to Ervin Lindstrom in Salina at the University United Methodist Church.&nbsp; They made their home in Falun, KS.&nbsp; Ervin Lindstrom was a farmer and cattle rancher with his two brothers Clyde and Glenn.&nbsp; Ervin also had a brother Vernon who was a banker and a sister Beulah.&nbsp; Marjorie and Ervin were loyal K.C. Royals fans with season tickets.

Marjorie was a 4H leader for 20 years in the Saline Valley 4H.&nbsp; With 32 participants, she conducted plays, demonstrations, monthly meetings, and projects.&nbsp; She has been a member of Friendly Neighbors Club since 1972.&nbsp; She has been serving as the secretary for this organization.&nbsp; She served as secretary of the Falun Water District for 30 years.&nbsp; She has been a participant in FCE in Manhattan.&nbsp; She is a member of the University United Methodist Church and has been a church board member.&nbsp; She has been a member of the church for 91 years.&nbsp; She belonged to several bridge clubs.

She traveled the world including Ireland, England, Canada, the Mediterranean, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, Greece, Italy, Spain, Germany, Holland, Switzerland, Republic of Czech, Hungary, Austria, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Philippines, Japan, Singapore, Hawaii, and Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Alice Trubey, Alan Smith, Faith Singleton, and Mary Boyle.

She is survived by nieces and nephews: Timothy Paul (Linda) Trubey of Olathe, KS, Rosalie Hawk of Salina, KS, Barbara (Eric) Bailey of Tulsa, OK, Donna (Tom) Woods of Lodi, CA, Linda (Mike) Poh of Huntington Beach, CA, and Mary Ann Boyle of Great Bend, KS.&nbsp; She is survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews.&nbsp; She is also survived by her good friends Susan and Kevin Burchard of Abilene, KS.

Betty Marie Chandler 93, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, Kansas.

She was born Teckla Betty Marie Nordin on October 1, 1926 in Lindsborg, the youngest daughter of 5 children to Emil and Olga (Johnson) Nordin. Betty married William “Red” Chandler on June 27, 1947 and they lived in Lindsborg where they had 4 children.

Betty held several jobs in Lindsborg the last of which was a cook for the Lindsborg High School, and helped with meals at the Lindsborg Senior Center. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, serving on different committees.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, brothers and their spouses, Emory Nordin (Esther), LaVern Nordin (Nell), sister and spouse Annabell Smith (Donald), brother-in-law and spouse, Allison Chandler (Mildred) and son-in-law David Smith, and infant sister Christine Nordin. 

She is survived by her sons, James (Maggie) Chandler, Mark Chandler, daughters, Vickie Smith and Norma (Lynn) Fox, and grandchildren Nicole (Jason),Orr, Jill (Mark) Weber, Donald (Ashlee) Creswell, Leslie (Marc) Beers, Alicia Chandler, Bonnie(Joey) Henderson, JD (Alyssa) Fox, 12 great grandchildren, 2 nieces and 1 nephew and many friends.

Brenda Gayle Langston, 60, passed away Sunday, August 9, 2020 in Colorado. She was born September 11, 1959 in Great Bend, KS to Andrew and Melva Jean (Thomas) Crawford.

Brenda was a resident of Holyrood, KS where she was a member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ and was a paraprofessional working with Central Plains School District USD 112. She married Roger Langston in Ellsworth, KS on August 12, 1988.

Brenda is survived by her husband, Roger Langston of Holyrood; sons, Jason Fanatia (Jenn) of Arlington, OR and Chris Fanatia (Michelle) of Mollala, OR; daughters, Mandi Griffin (Keith) of Manhattan, KS and Stephanie Langston (Jamie) of Nixa, MO; grandchildren, Trinity, Tiana, Caden, McKenzie, Emily, Cohen, Mary, Abigayle, Braxton, Jeremy, Ryan, Madilynn, Mallery, Keagan, Aliyah, Alisia, and Derron; great grandson, Jack; siblings, Judy Vasquez, Andrew Crawford, Jr. (Diana), Steve Crawford (Marcia), David Crawford (Patty), Kenneth Crawford, Betty Adams, and Sue Schridde (David); and sister-in-law, Robie Lamia. &nbsp; Nancy “Nan” F. Thompson, Bennington, Kansas passed away Wednesday August 12, 2020. She was born in Butler County, PA on December 24, 1935, the daughter of the late Lewis Baynard and Mary Kathryn (Crouch) Heller. 

Nan was united in marriage to the love of her life and soul mate, Allyn L Thompson on March 11, 1955. They both were actively enlisted in the Air Force stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. 

Nan held several different jobs over her 84 years. Her longest stint of 18 years was for beech Aircraft/Raytheon. Her greatest love of jobs was helping the elderly stay at home and caring for them. She was a true caregiver at heart.

She is survived by her three children: Wyatt (Karen) Thompson, Manhattan, Kansas; Kay (Nick) Burns, Hutchinson, Kansas; and Lisha (Greg) Wolf, Bennington, Kansas. 

Nan was one of twelve children of which six have preceded in death, Robert, Dorthy, Donald, William, Richard and Charlotte. 

Surviving her are Helen, Athea, Paul, Alma and Janie. Grandchildren include Dacy (Wade) Woods, Dustin (Michelle) Thompson, Stoney (Jamie) Burns, Ryan (Kate) Burns, Alexandra Winingham, Trevor Wolf, Lyndi (Jeremy) Bernard, Courtney (Griff) Burdett and Whitney (Blaise) Kaufman.

Nancy “Nan” F. Thompson

Janice McKinney, 81, passed away peacefully this week in Salt Lake City surrounded by her children.

She was born on September 11th, 1938, in Aurora, Illinois, to Lillian (Roetzer) Wallers and Leo Wallers.

Following her graduation from Madonna Catholic High School for Girls, she headed west to another all-girls catholic school. But instead of the urban suburbs of Chicago, this one was smack in the middle of the vast Kansas prairie, in a place called Salina.

After a difficult childhood with an overbearing mother, Janice found Salina to be liberating. She loved its wide open spaces and its open and friendly people. And with her unique style and “flair”, the newly-liberated teenager from the big city made quite a splash.

One day in the Spring of 1956, as she was walking up the Iron Street hill, a local boy in a snazzy Chevy convertible cruised slowly by. The young townie behind the wheel was immediately smitten with the vivacious coed, but Janice played it cool. Fortunately for us, Dick McKinney was not easily swayed and, after months of chasing, he finally won her over. She left Marymount in 1958 to marry him and start a family, but returned after the birth of her first daughter, Kyle, and graduated in 1969.

She was driven to create. After getting the kids to bed she would labor late into the night in her makeshift studio at the kitchen table - in paint, wood, needlepoint, and quilts. She became the art director at Brewster Place in Topeka, organizing its famous Christmas Craft Fair and raising thousands of dollars every year for charity. She managed floral shops for Dillons and later at Poppy’s Gift Shop in Salina, where her creations were legendary.

Although witty and animated, she was not an extrovert like her husband, preferring to watch while he worked a room; a beautiful, elegant presence, reminding us of Jaqueline Kennedy.

Like Jackie O, she was stoic in the face of adversity. She battled debilitating pain and health issues for the last three decades of her life, after a botched medical procedure in the 1980s. But she remained a warm and captivating presence, making you feel like you were the most important person in the world.

Janice was devoted to her grandchildren who revered her. On a hot summer afternoon in August of 2007, nine-year-old Megan went for a ride with Grandma Janice. Upon her return she rushed back into the house with wide eyes. "Nobody has a grandma as cool as mine!" she exclaimed. “She acts cool, she dresses cool and she drives a really cool car!”

Janice was preceded in death by her beloved Dick, who passed away in 2015; her mother and father, Lillian and Leo Wallers and her sister Carol.

She is survived by her six adoring children, Kevin of Los Angeles, Kelly (Monica) of New York City, Shawn (Cindy) of Little Rock, Kyle (Erick) of Seattle, Timothy of Salt Lake City, and Heather of Kansas City; her grandchildren, Paul, Zachary, Erin, Megan, James, Olivia, Henry, Finn and Hattie; her brother, Bill Wallers (Georgia) of Aurora, Illinois; her sister-in-law Patricia Corum of Fort Collins, Colorado and Dick’s nephews, Greggory (Cheri Parr) and Jeffrey Corum of Fort Collins.

Due to coronavirus concerns, a private burial service will be held in lieu of a funeral. A memorial service honoring her life is planned for the post-covid future.

John Wayne Hilbert, 35, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2020 in Ellsworth. He was born April 17, 1985 in Monett, MO to David A. and Beverly A. (Greene) Hilbert.

William Lee Hilt Jr., 75, of Leawood, Ks, passed away August 10, 2020. He was born August 7, 1945 in Salina, Ks.

Ever devoted to his mother, Pyrle, Billy, as she called him, spent his childhood playing around town causing hijinks, joining the summer baseball league, going to the picture show Fox Watson, having fun with his friends, eating Cozy Inn hamburgers, and his mother’s Blueberry Pie. As he got older, he worked at the local bowling alley setting pins, scoreboard keeper at baseball games, and at his family’s shop, Salina Rentals. Bill was a member of the Pagodas Car Club, loved to race cars and cruise the “Fe”.

In his late teens, Bill joined the U.S. Marine Corps, learning a myriad of skills including Electrical Engineering and Radar. After completing operations in Vietnam, Bill was honorably discharged. Upon his return to Salina, he joined the Salina Police Department and eventually became the Head of the Traffic Division, but most loved his time as a Motorcycle Officer.

After marrying Cindy, in November 1979, Bill was the Owner and Operator of Ideal Cleaners and Tv Repair, and later returned to Electrical Engineering in various companies in Garden City, Ks and Kansas City, Mo, until his retirement in 2007.

Bill spent his personal time with his wife, Cindy, and daughters, Amber and Jennifer, making beautiful memories filled with love and laughter. Bill had a comedic way of dealing with life and continued his hijinks to the end. He was a gun enthusiast, visiting shooting ranges and gun shows as often as possible, loved to play pool, was an avid collector of O and N gauge trains, tinker with electronics, watch movies, horticulture especially purple flowers, tending to his dogs Annabelle and Baby Mae, his fish Georgy, and doting over his granddaughter Lorelai Pyrle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Pyrle (Brady) Hilt; and ex-wife Karen Blomberg.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years Cindy Hilt; children, Amber (Philip) Brown, Jennifer (David) Morris, Michelle Reeves; grandchildren, Lorelai Morris, Aiden Reeves, and Breanna Reeves.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 13, 2020 from 4-6pm at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford, Salina.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 14, 2020 at 10:30am at New Community Christian Church, 530 E. Cloud, Salina. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Suzanne was a member of the St. Anne's Episcopal Church, McPherson, Kansas. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and took great pride in providing for her family. She ministered to many people throughout her life and will be remembered as caring and loving to anyone she met. Suzanne spent her life ministering to others. She was ordained a Deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas in 1994. She also loved baking with her grandchildren. Suzanne was united in marriage to Robert P. Layne on May 23, 1979 in Wichita, Kansas. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of over 41 years, Robert P. Suzanne Layne

&nbsp; Beatrice L. “Bea” Cole, age 86, of Abilene passed away Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Village Manor in Abilene. She was born August 23, 1933 in Galeton, PA the daughter of Charles and Filide (Meucci) Osani. She graduated High School in Galeton and on June 25, 1955 she was united in marriage to Lewis W. Cole. To this union two sons were born. Lewis worked for Combustion Engineering and the family made their home in Galeton, PA Marion, NC, and Concordia, KS before moving to Abilene in 1973. Bea was a homemaker and was a member of the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. She also volunteered for the Red Cross blood mobile, taking friends to appointments, socializing with her friends at coffee and working at Memorial Hospital. Bea is survived by her son Jeff and his wife Toye of Solomon, brother Joe and his wife Coleen Osani of Mason, Ohio, three grandchildren Brandon, Kasey, and Luke, two great grandchildren Emma and Hunter, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Lewis on January 1, 1996, her son Geno in 1977, siblings Rita, Geno, Herman, Nella, Charles, Ted, and her parents. Cremation is planned. There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at St. Andrews Catholic Church with Father Randall Weber as Celebrant. A Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be recited 10:15 a.m. Tuesday morning followed by a Parish Rosary at 10:30 a.m. Her final resting place will be in Pennsylvania. Because of COVID 19, please practice social distancing and wear a mask if possible.  </figure>&nbsp; Beatrice L. “Bea” Cole, age 86, of Abilene passed away Saturday, August 8, 2020 at Village Manor in Abilene. She was born August 23, 1933 in Galeton, PA the daughter of Charles and Filide (Meucci) Osani. She graduated High School in Galeton and on June 25, 1955 she was united in marriage to Lewis W. Cole. To this union two sons were born. Lewis worked for Combustion Engineering and the family made their home in Galeton, PA Marion, NC, and Concordia, KS before moving to Abilene in 1973. Bea was a homemaker and was a member of the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. She also volunteered for the Red Cross blood mobile, taking friends to appointments, socializing with her friends at coffee and working at Memorial Hospital. Bea is survived by her son Jeff and his wife Toye of Solomon, brother Joe and his wife Coleen Osani of Mason, Ohio, three grandchildren Brandon, Kasey, and Luke, two great grandchildren Emma and Hunter, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Lewis on January 1, 1996, her son Geno in 1977, siblings Rita, Geno, Herman, Nella, Charles, Ted, and her parents. Cremation is planned. There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at St. Andrews Catholic Church with Father Randall Weber as Celebrant. A Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be recited 10:15 a.m. Tuesday morning followed by a Parish Rosary at 10:30 a.m. Her final resting place will be in Pennsylvania. Beatrice L "Bea" Cole (Osani)

Nellie May (Empson) Kurtz, 98, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away July 26, 2020 in Olathe, Kansas. She was born Nellie May Demanette on November 28, 1921 in Aurora, Kansas, the youngest daughter of 12 children. Nellie married George Elvin Empson in 1941 and they settled in Concordia where they had 3 children. At one time they owned the Pastime Cafe. People enjoyed good food and Nellie's home-baked pies every day.

In 1967 she married Herbert C. Kurtz and they lived in Salina, Kansas. Nellie was very active in the DAV, VFW, and American Legion Auxiliaries, as well as the 8 and 40. She held various offices in the organizations and volunteered in numerous other capacities as well. Nellie was an avid bowler and volunteered for many years at St. John's Hospital in Salina. She worked at a wide variety of jobs in her lifetime.

When Nellie moved to Wichita in 2001, she remained very active in the same organizations and also volunteered for 12 years at the Dole V.A. Hospital. She lived in Haysville, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church. She relocated to Olathe in 2015.

Nellie was preceded in death by both husbands, her sons John and James, and all of her siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Empson of Olathe, 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Nellie was interred at the Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Salina, Kansas on July 29, 2020. Donations may be made to the Disabled Veterans, V.F.W., American Legion, and The Forty and Eight, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth Street, Salina, Kansas 67401.

&nbsp; Stephen E. Ascher, 77, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Sunday, August 9th, 2020. Steve was born in Austin, Texas, on June 3, 1943, a son of the late Elinor (Wili) and Earl Ascher. Steve graduated from Salina High School in 1961 and from Kansas Wesleyan University in 1965 with a BA in Chemistry. While at KWU, he met a cute brunette in German class and eventually got up the nerve to ask her for a date. On July 30, 1966, he married Ruth Marie Schenck in Holly, Colorado. Steve was a Professional Engineer (Chemical Engineer). He was proud of his lifelong commitment to the environment, including working with industrial wastewater treatment clients, managing an environmental analytical laboratory, and supporting frozen food manufacturing health, safety and environmental work. After retirement, he relished a part-time job in the meat department at Jim’s Market, Canby, Minnesota. As a devoted husband and father, family was always his top priority. He was an amazing role model, not just for his own children, but for many of their friends as well. In his retirement, his passion was conducting “Camp Papu” with his four granddaughters, telling stories, reading, singing, exploring, and bicycling during their summer visits in Minnesota. He single handedly taught all of them how to ride bicycles and got them all out of training wheels. Steve wanted them to know him while he was still a “cool guy rather than just an old fart”. He was crushed when he realized that Alzheimer's disease would rob him of the opportunity to see his grandchildren graduate from high school and college. Steve was an avid reader, especially civil war history. He was a bicycling enthusiast and went on 10-20 mile rides every night after work. He was a community servant and passionate volunteer. He served two four year terms on the Salina Board of Education. He was active in the Presbyterian Church serving as a church officer and Clerk of Session at First Presbyterian, Salina. He was a church officer and lay minister at United Presbyterian, Canby, writing the worship service and filling the pulpit over seventy five times. Steve was active in the early development of the Southwest Minnesota CAT (chemical assessment) team. He was easily coerced into volunteering for many of his wife’s United Way projects and Canby Area Arts Council activities. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Jennifer Ascher (Larry Handlin) of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Sarah Geering (Brian) of Kechi, Kansas; and brothers, David Ascher (Kayla) of Salina, Kansas, Phillip Ascher of Smolan, Kansas. He is also survived by four granddaughters, Elinor Ascher-Handlin, Beatrice Ascher-Handlin, Abigail Geering, Emily Geering, and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Brenda Ascher. His body has been donated to the University of Kansas Medical School. Memorial services will be announced. Raymond Lee “Ray” Sherwood, 84, of Assaria died Friday, August 7, 2020 at Bethany Home of Lindsborg.  Ray was born July 24, 1936 in Salina, KS to the late Robert Sherwood and Sestia (Kalb) Burch.   

Ray was a graduate of Assaria High School.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Salina.  Ray married Donna Isaacson on January 4, 1958 at Assaria Lutheran Church.   He was a lifelong resident of the area and worked as a master craftsman and custom home builder.

He is survived by his sons: Brent Sherwood (Renella) of Falun, KS, Brian Sherwood of Wichita, KS, Brandon Sherwood (Dawn) of Assaria, KS; brother: Rick Hereth;  as well as 11 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents; wife: Donna; a brother; and 2 sisters.

Cremation has been chosen.  Memorial services will be held at a later date.

Raymond Lee “Ray” Sherwood

Duane Evar Fredrickson passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at his home.  Through his words and his actions, he was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Duane was born May 24, 1939 in Osage City, Kansas to the late Harold and Olive (Anderson) Fredrickson. He was raised on a farm in Osage County and graduated from Osage High School in 1957.  He earned B.A and B.S degrees from Kansas State University and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine.  

On August 18, 1963, Duane was united in marriage to Nancy Harris in Kirkwood, Missouri.  After finishing medical school, he joined the United States Air Force Medical Service attaining the rank of Captain.  He was stationed with Nancy, daughter Julie, and son Scott in Wakkanai, Japan from 1967-1969.  After his serving his country, Duane and his family settled in Lindsborg, Kansas. 

Duane served Lindsborg and the surrounding communities as a family physician at Lindsborg Rural Health Clinic, Medical Director at Lindsborg Community Hospital, and Medical Director at Bethany Home.  He educated medical students as a volunteer Clinical Instructor and a host for the Rural Preceptor program for the University of Kansas School of Medicine.  He was awarded the 2009 Kansas Family Physician of the Year presented by the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians.  Duane retired in January 2010.

Duane said the best way to be happy in life is to do something each day for others.  He supported his community as a board member and President of the Smoky Valley Historical Association, board member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Bethany College, The Associated Churches of Lindsborg (TACOL), and the Lindsborg Tree Board.  He served as a member of Lindsborg Sister City Committee, Sandzen Gallery Membership Committee, the Scenic Byway Trail Committee, and Bethany Lutheran Church Social Committee.

Duane honored his Swedish heritage as President of the American Scandinavian Association of the Great Plains and Director of the Lindsborg Folkdanslag that performs traditional Swedish folk dances in Lindsborg, the Midwest, and Sweden.  He enjoyed singing as a tenor in the Messiah chorus and as a member of the Mennonite Men’s Choir.  He volunteered for the Central Kansas Conservancy, Meadowlark Trail, Coronado Heights Park, Raymer Garden, and bike repair at the TACOL Thrift Shop.  Duane was a Master Gardner and enjoyed outdoor activities including bicycling, hiking, and wood chopping.  He made up fantastic tales for his grandchildren and was always encouraging others.

Continuing to honor his memory are his wife Nancy, daughter Julie Messmer (Mike) of Olathe, son Scott Fredrickson (Andi) of Olathe, grandchildren Kerstin, Annika, and Kajsa Messmer, John and Bradley Fredrickson, Micah and Ethan Doughty, sister Marlene Switzer, sister-in-law Patricia Fredrickson, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ronald Fredrickson, and brother-in-law Lloyd Switzer.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, private family funeral and interment services will be held Saturday, August 15th.

Marilyn Belle (Lowell) Anderson, 91 passed peacefully surrounded by members of her loving family on July 27, 2020. She was born on February 6, 1929 in Courtland, KS. to Dr. Perl Russell and Thelma (Morfoot) Lowell.

Marilyn graduated from Belleville High School in 1949. She attended Colorado Woman's College in Denver, CO. majoring in Journalism. While at CWC she was the sports writer for the school newspaper column titled, " T- Off With Ducky". Later she taught kindergarten in Narka and Atwood, KS.

Marilyn married the love of her life (Kenneth R. Anderson) on December 24, 1950 at the United Methodist Church in Belleville, KS. Marilyn was always involved in her local United Methodist Church. She had a strong and solid faith in Christ and loved being active as a natural leader. Marilyn was blessed with a kind spirit and a wonderful sense of humor.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, parents and a sister Anita Price Beaudin. She is survived by her sister Lois Beth Schmidt, Belleville, KS.

She is also survived by her three children, Melody (Steven) Granzow, Kelly (Bobbie) Anderson, Candy (TJ) Cunningham; and, ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several loving nieces and nephews.

Marilyn Belle (Lowell) Anderson

&nbsp; Alvin Edward Tinsley, 81, of Inman, KS, and formerly of McPherson, Canton, and Great Bend, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2020, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. He was a farmer and worked at Hesston Corporation as a maintenance technician. He also served in the Army National Guard. Alvin was born on September 7, 1938, in Canton, KS the son of Charlie Alvin and May Ellen (Harmon) Tinsley. He graduated from Canton High School and attended McPherson College. He was a member of Canton United Methodist Church and volunteered for Canton EMS. Survivors include: three children, Gina Davenport (Keith) of Hoschton, GA, Dori Nunez (Moises) of Ottawa, KS, and Lori Cavanaugh (Mike) of McPherson, KS; brother, Galen Tinsley (Delaine) of Canton, KS; sister, Maida Laughlin of Canton, KS; four grandchildren, Vicki Fickes (Ed), Travis McKee, Dakota Cavanaugh, and Makayla Cavanaugh; and three great-grandchildren, Lyle Fickes, Anthony Fickes, and Phoenix Fickes. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Bonnie Russell, and a granddaughter, Jessa Cavanaugh. Alvin was born on September 7, 1938, in Canton, KS the son of Charlie Alvin and May Ellen (Harmon) Tinsley. He graduated from Canton High School and attended McPherson College. He was a member of Canton United Methodist Church and volunteered for Canton EMS. Survivors include: three children, Gina Davenport (Keith) of Hoschton, GA, Dori Nunez (Moises) of Ottawa, KS, and Lori Cavanaugh (Mike) of McPherson, KS; brother, Galen Tinsley (Delaine) of Canton, KS; sister, Maida Laughlin of Canton, KS; four grandchildren, Vicki Fickes (Ed), Travis McKee, Dakota Cavanaugh, and Makayla Cavanaugh; and three great-grandchildren, Lyle Fickes, Anthony Fickes, and Phoenix Fickes. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Bonnie Russell, and a granddaughter, Jessa Cavanaugh. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 15, 2020, at First United Methodist Church, McPherson, with Rev. Emily Spearman Cannon officiating. Inurnment will follow at Canton Township Cemetery. &nbsp; Eula Mae Gustafson, 84, of San Diego, CA, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020, in La Jolla, CA. She was a registered nurse and later a homemaker and had been a resident of California since 1978. She was born January 14, 1936, in Springdale, AR, the daughter of James L. and Lucille R. (Areman) Sigmon. Eula graduated from Springdale High School in 1954 and went on to attend Saint Edward Mercy Hospital Nursing School. Eula became a US Army nurse. After discharge from the Army she went to work at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Kansas City, MO where she met her future husband, Duane, who was in dental school. On Sept. 21, 1963, Eula was united in marriage to Duane O. Gustafson in Harrisburg, MO. During his career in the Navy, they raised a family while traveling the world. Duane preceded Eula in death on Aug. 31, 1994. Survivors include: two daughters, Dr. Cindy Gustafson-Brown (Mark) of San Diego, CA and Dr. Clementa Frederiksen (J. Mark) of Alpine, CA; a sister-in-law, Verna Mae Sigmon of Whitney, TX; and six grandchildren. Eula was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and six brothers and sisters. A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, at McPherson Cemetery. Loren V. Paull, 90, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2020 in Ellsworth. He was born September 23, 1929 in Ellsworth to Clinton and Bernice (Seymour) Paull.

Loren served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Ellsworth American Legion Post 174. He was public utility planner for Southern California Edison for many years.

Loren is survived by his son, Sam Paull (Karen) of Kanopolis; daughter, Valerie Hoskin (Ron) of Punta de Mita, Mex.; grandchildren, Darci Paull, Andrew Paull (Lacy), Gabriel Paull (Olivia), Lyle Hoskin (Anne), and Ryan Hoskin (Meredith); five great grandchildren; four nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard and Don Paull; and sister, Sandra Gayle Schultz.

A celebration of life graveside will take place at a later date at Ellsworth Cemetery.

Woellhof, 85, died Sunday, August 9, 2020 in Clay Center.&nbsp; He was born September 29, 1934, the son of Herbert O. and Bessie (Eiznhamer) Woellhof.&nbsp; Herbert grew up in Clay Center and graduated from CCCHS.&nbsp; He worked as a truck driver for Forkner Construction and for the Clay County Highway Department, retiring in 1998 as the bridge foreman. He is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Alec Spiers.

Lloyd Henry Wiebe was born October 5, 1930, the son of Willie B. and Esther Margaret (Claassen) Wiebe in Newton, Kansas. He attended Berean Academy and was a 1948 graduate. He was united in marriage to Elma Marie Nachtigal on June 14, 1957 in Newton, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children. He was a farmer and carpenter. Lloyd was a member of the Emmaus Church. He enjoyed woodworking, remodeling houses, barns, and cabinet building. He served on the Rural Water District Board #7 and the Remington USD 206 School Board.

His loving family includes his wife, Elma Wiebe of Whitewater; son, Lowell Wiebe (Lisa) of Valley Center, Kansas; daughter, Charis Entz (Charles) of Whitewater; a brother, Ken Wiebe of Whitewater; a sister, Evelyn Quiring of North Newton, Kansas; 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Esther Wiebe; son, Darren Wiebe in 2018; and a sister, Mariann Siebert. Lloyd passed away peaceful into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 7, 2020 at the age of 89 years old.

His family will gather with friends at Emmaus Church on Sunday, August 16, 6-8 p.m. for visitation. Interment will be a private family burial. His funeral service will be held on Monday, August 17, at 10:30 at the Emmaus Church in Whitewater.

Jeffrey Mason Osborne, 60, of Topeka, Kansas passed away August 5, 2020, at Rolling Hills Health Center in Topeka.

Jeff was born July 26, 1960 in Council Grove, Kansas, the son of William Mason III and Patricia (Hardiman) Osborne. He graduated from Topeka West High with the Class of 1978. Jeff was a member of Westside Christian Church.

Jeff was a savant and had an amazing ability to recall specific dates and facts about family and historical events. He was kind, caring and extremely intelligent. He was a dear friend and helper to many of his fellow residents at Rolling Hills. He enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Kansas City Royals, Chiefs and KU football and basketball. He loved playing pool. His passion was studying the weather and he always dreamt of being a meteorologist. Jeff’s family meant everything to him. He loved each of them dearly. Jeff will be greatly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents: William and Mildred Osborne and Mark and Margaret Hardiman. Jeff is survived by his parents: Bill and Pat Osborne; sisters Jami Lynn Haines and husband Dennis Spradlin of Bentonville, AR and Julie Renae Pusloskie and husband Paul of Ashburn, VA; nephews: Michael Christopher Haines (Allison), Max Mason Pusloskie, Lex Paul Pusloskie; nieces: Candice Lynn Johnson (Taylor), Jade Ann Pusloskie, and Sasha Rose Pusloskie; and great nephew Curren Oliver Johnson.
