Larry D. Olsen, the son of Omar “Ole” D. Olsen and Katherine (Kendall) Olsen, was born December 18, 1939 in Scandia, KS and passed away on September 9, 2020 at the Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, KS at the age of 80 years, 8 months, and 21 days.

Larry grew up and attended the local public schools in Scandia, graduating from Scandia High School. He served in the U. S Army from 1963 until 1965 and was stationed in Hawaii. On December 4, 1965 he was united in marriage to Lola Sandell and to this union: Lana, Stacey and Ryan were born. Larry worked for Reece Construction, the Feedlot and at his Father’s blacksmith shop in his early years. He then worked for the Republic County Highway Department for 39 years, retiring as shop foreman.

Larry was a member of the American Legion Post # 193, Scandia, KS and a member of United Methodist Church, Scandia. He was the sexton/caretaker at Riverview Cemetery for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Katherine Olsen; father-in-law, Charles Sandell; brother-in-law, Gary Keeling; sister-in-law, Shirley Sandell; and son-in-law, Hans Jensen.

Larry is survived by his wife, Lola Olsen of Scandia, KS; two daughters, Lana (Randy) Thayer of Republic, KS; Stacey (Bruce) Runft of Scandia, KS , one son, Ryan Olsen (Humphrey Sui) of Shenyang, China; 9 grandchildren: Amanda Jensen (Jeremy Fredrickson), Tyler (Samantha) Jensen, Jeremy Thayer, Jordan (Monica) Thayer, Britt (Michael) Wright, Cody (Lindsay) Runft, Jaid Runft, Payton Runft, and Mason Runft; 10 great grandchildren; one brother, Hans (Judy) Olsen of Scandia, KS; two sisters, Carol (Bob) Brant and Sonja Keeling all Superior, KS; other relatives and many friends.

Visitation for friends will be held from 1 PM until 8 PM on Friday, September 11, 2020 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Scandia, KS.

He was united in marriage to Karen Havel and to this union three sons, Lawrence, Karl and Leland, one daughter, Karla was born.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was a farmer/rancher and was a life long resident of the Cuba, Kansas community.

He is a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Cuba, KS., charter member and former officer of the Republic County Czech Club, 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus #2609, 4th degree Knights of Columbus Biship Thill, member of the catholic workman, National Farmers Organization, former president and member of the Cuba Alumni Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lottie Baxa, one brother, Marian Baxa, one sister, Sister Veronica Baxa.

Richard Lee Reinecker, 64, of Wichita, Kansas passed away Tuesday, September 8th, 2020 at his residence..

Rick was born in McPherson, Kansas on August 23, 1956, a son of Gene Hayden and Joan Lee (Edwards) Reinecker.

Rick attended Roosevelt Elementary School, McPherson Junior High School and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1974.

He was a member of Church of the Brethren.

Through the years Rick worked for Mahaney Construction Company, Wichita, Kansas as a foreman, Cruthers Construction, Wichita, Kansas as a carpenter and a mechanic for Malm Automotive, McPherson, Kansas.

Rick enjoyed listening to blue's music, fishing, grilling, fireworks, KU Basketball, Rick was a diehard KC Chiefs Football fan, loved his grandkids and spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by his children, Dylan Reinecker, of Wichita, Kansas; Whitney Reinecker, of Wichita, Kansas;

Mackenzie Kettler, of Wichita, Kansas; Meagan Kettler, of Wichita, Kansas Travis Martin, of Wichita, Knasas; his siblings, Pam Washburn and her husband Bill, of Hutchinson, Kansas; Debra Orth and her husband David, of McPherson, Kansas; Janee' Doll, of Richfield, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Kaden Reinecker, Lily Goodwin and Carson Goodwin; other relatives and a host of friends.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Joni and Gene Reinecker; a sister, Cynthia Reinecker; a brother, Mike Reinecker and a nephew, Jason Orth.

Arvid Richard Bengston, 94, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, surrounded by family at The Cedars, McPherson. He was a farmer and rancher. He also worked at Sterling Drug in the maintenance department, retiring in 1986.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

Arvid was born on February 28, 1926, in Little River, KS, the son of John William and Hildur Caroline (Ekholm) Bengston. On July 22, 1956, he was united in marriage to Marcia M. Harder at the Andover Lutheran Church, Windom. This union was blessed with three daughters, Arlene, Diane, and Nadine. Marcia preceded Arvid in death on August 11, 2010.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McPherson.

Survivors include: three daughters, Arlene Sawatzky (Russ Dick) of McPherson, KS, Diane Hedberg (Matt) of Marquette, KS, and Nadine Kelling (Brian) of McPherson, KS; brothers, Virgul Bengston (Carole) of Hutchinson, KS and Willard Bengston (Joyce) of Windom, KS; grandchildren, Jordan Sawatzky (Shane Maupin), Spencer Goalden (Jake), Justin Kelling (Cassie Maizon), and Jessica Kelling; step-grandchildren, Will Hedberg and Makaela Hedberg; great-grandchildren, Jameson Kelling, Luna Kelling, and Delaynie Goalden; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Chester Bengston and Evert Bengston, and sisters, Gloria Plooster and Carolyn Hannah.

Florence “Polly” White, 94, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2020 in Ellsworth, KS. She was born October 16, 1925 in Vesper, KS to Kyle U. and Loretta R. (Snavely) Swisher.

Polly was a longtime resident of Kanopolis where she was a member of the United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She attended Kansas Wesleyan University where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught school and was a telephone operator prior to holding the position of secretary at White Bros. Construction. She married Floyd Joseph White in Wilson, KS on February 13, 1947.

Polly is survived by her son, Joe White (Barbara) of Kanopolis; and grandchildren, Lon White of Kanopolis, Mike Thille of Kanopolis, Amber Thille of Kanopolis, and Heather Lindsay of Charleston, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd; brothers, Mike and Donald Swisher (Charlotte); and sister, Yvonne Nelson.

Mary Rose Wiltzius, 94, of Clifton, died Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the Park Villa Nursing Home in Clyde.&nbsp; She was born on May 5 1926 at Aurora, the daughter of Joseph H. and Ella C. (Brunell) DeMars.&nbsp; Mary graduated from the Aurora Catholic High school in 1944. &nbsp;She married Paul Petersen and they made there home in Kansas City.&nbsp; While living in Kansas City she worked as an airline scheduler. Paul preceded her in death at a young age. &nbsp;After her husband’s death she moved back to Aurora and worked at the Aurora COOP.&nbsp; She later married Earl Wiltzius on April 28, 1956.&nbsp; They lived in rural Clifton where they farmed.&nbsp; Earl preceded her in 1980.&nbsp; She moved from the farm into Clifton in 1982. &nbsp;Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. &nbsp;She taught Catechism and CCD. &nbsp;She was also a member of the Clifton American Legion Auxiliary, Graduates, Clifton Historical Society, and the Clifton Senior Center.&nbsp; In addition to her husbands, &nbsp;Mary is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sharon Rae Petersen; son, Roy Wiltzius; brothers, Harold, Merle, C. Dale Demars, and Curtis Demars; sisters, Glorianne Demars, and Nada Sicard and son-in-law, Gary Hubert.

Anthony's life began on July 19, 1949 in Newton, KS.  He was the son of Alfred and Margaret (Rutschman) Gronau. 

 Anthony is a graduate of Remington High School, Whitewater and Pittsburg State University where he earned a degree in Construction Management. 

 Anthony was united in marriage to the former Mari Palmisano on September 30, 1982 in Liberty, MO.  

He was a self-employed construction manager and had worked for Carollo Engineering and CDW-Smith.  Anthony was a proud member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed teaching family and friends about firearms. 

 He enjoyed growing his vegetable garden and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. 

 His loving family includes his wife of 37 years Mari Gronau of Overland Park, sons Nathan and Justin Gronau; granddaughters Kayleigh and Caitlynn Gronau and his siblings Eugene Gronau of Whitewater and Sharon (William) Tolle of Wichita.  Anthony passed away at his home on September 9, 2020. 

 He is preceded in death by his parents.  

Anthony's family will gather with friends on Tuesday September 15th from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater. Cecilia Rose Graf, 7 of Abilene passed away tragically Wednesday, September 9, 2020. She was born August 7, 2013 in Salina, the beautiful daughter of Shawn and Lacy (Kraushaar) Graf. 

Cecilia was in the 1st grade and attended St. Andrew’s Catholic School. 

She loved the outdoors, going fishing, helping with the cows and loved playing with her brother and two sisters any chance she got. She was a very proud girl and a great helper around the house. 

She was loved by so many and will be missed by her parents, Shawn and Lacy Graf; her brother, Maverick and two sisters Khianna and Jocelyn; Grandparents, Keith and Rita Kraushaar, David and Regina Riley, Jerry and Frances Graf, great-grandfather Alvin Schrandt and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Betty Schrandt, Delphos and Cecelia Graf, Nilwon and Donna Kraushaar and a cousin, Phoenix Wise.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, September 14, 2020 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Abilene with Bishop Gerald Vincke as Celebrant and Father Randall Weber Con-Celebrant. Cecilia Rose Graf

Gene Lindsay was born on March 11, 1963 in Abilene, Kansas, the son of Royce and Carol Rutz Lindsay. He died early Wednesday, September 9, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer at his home in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 57.

Gene grew up in Abilene, where he attended schools and graduated from Abilene High School. Following graduation, he attended Beloit Vo-Tech in carpentry.

For many years he worked at Kent Manufacturing, and later Carrico Implement. He retired early to serve as a cook and housekeeper for his wife Rhonda. He always had a dream of bussing tables, and fulfilled his dream working at Bubba Q’s.

“Big Mason” was as hard-working as they get, but he always had time to hang out with friends listening to music and having a Jack and Coke, or attending and tailgating at K-State football games. He was the life of the party, and was usually the first one there and the last to leave. He would give you the shirt off his back, even if it didn’t have sleeves.

He loved wrestling with his grandkids, and was a great friend to many.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Roger.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Rhonda; son, Nathan Scaglione and his wife Jakobee of Crete, NE; sister, Jo Baugh and her husband Kyle of Oceanside, CA; brother, Rod and his wife Marsha of Abilene; three grandsons, Lane, Brecken, and Dominic; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews; and daughter Amanda and her three children.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, September 11 at the Beloit First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 1-7 PM with family present from 5-7 PM Thursday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice or Charity of Donor's Choice.

Gene Lindsay

February 8, 1927~September 8, 2020(age 93)

George's life began on February 8, 1927 in rural Herington.  He was the son of George A. and Jennie E. (Fall) Schlesener. 

 George was a 1947 graduate of Herington High School. 

 He was united in marriage to the former Mary Ann Schneider on March 25, 1951 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ramona. 

 George worked for the Rock Island Line, Oklahoma – Kansas Line and Southern Pacific Railroads retiring in 1993 as an Engineer. In addition to his railroad career, he was a farmer, raising livestock and crops.  

Mary and George moved into town in 2010.  

George served as a Dickinson County Commissioner for 12 years, served on the Tri-county Fair Board, and the Herington Housing Authority for many years. 

 He was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and sang in the choir.  George often sang for weddings and funeral in the area. 

 His greatest joy was his family which includes his wife of 69 years Mary of Herington; children Thomas Schlesener, Georgia ( Garland) Rucker, Jayne (Roger) Engle, Christine (Michael) Trapp, all of Herington and Ginger (Michael) Born of Overland Park; grandchildren Jennifer (Matthew) Scott, Elizabeth Schlesener, Justus Rucker, Jonathan (Kaleigh) Rucker, Travis ( Katie) Engle, Andrea (Ryan) Mulvany, Sarah Jo Trapp, Nicholas (Lindy) Trapp, Lucas (Nikki) Born and Steven Born; great grandchildren Connor and Logan Scott, Lillian and Isaac Rucker, Megan and Caleb Engle, Molly and Henry Mulvany, Fallon Trapp, Kameron Hall, William, Lilly Ann and Garbriel Born. 

 George passed away on September 8, 2020 at Herington Municipal Hospital. 

 He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Merrill and James, and sister Geraldine Jones. 

 His family will gather with friends on Monday September 14th at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. for his memorial service led by Pastor Bill Neuman.  He will be laid to rest in Sunset Hill Cemetery at a later date.  Yazel-Megli Funeral Home is serving the family. Cathy J. Miller, age 72, formerly of Concordia, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Salina, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born on Dec. 27, 1947 in Concordia KS to James “Red” and Alta M. (Lathrop) Worley.

She married Arthur “Art” Miller on May 23, 1970 in Concordia, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;He preceded her on August 24, 2014. Cathy was award clerk for many years at St. Joseph Hospital working on the psychiatric ward and the medical floor. She also was medical transcriptionist for St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia; she later worked for SRS as a child advocate, Youthville and Arbor Hope. She was currently working for St. Francis Ministries.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Concordia, and a member of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, Salina and recently the Christ Cathedral in Salina Kansas. Cathy held a lot of positions within the church and loved her church family dearly.

She is survived by a son, Tony Miller (Kathleen), Aurora; daughter, Ticia Miller-Brandenburg (Brady), Salina; grandchildren, Angel (Dustin) Binger, Michael Malcuit, Azalia (Jordan) Cunningham, Christopher, &amp; Alizabeth (Bug) Malcuit &amp; Kahlie, Katlynn &amp; Keyan Miller; great grandchildren Aidric Malcuit, Londynn &amp; Kisynn Cunningham, John Giesler, Dustin &amp; Lyndzy Binger and numerous others who called her grandma along with brothers in-law, Robert (Terry) Miller of Connecticut, Mark (Tammy) Miller of GlenElder Kansas, Marianna(Bob)Richard Beloit Kansas,&nbsp; numerous nieces &amp; nephews and others who she was ‘mom’ to.&nbsp;

Cathy was award clerk for many years at St. Joseph Hospital working on the psychiatric ward and the medical floor. She also was medical transcriptionist for St. Joseph Hospital in Concordia; she later worked for SRS as a child advocate, Youthville and Arbor Hope. She was currently working for St. Francis Ministries.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany, Concordia, and a member of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation, Salina and recently the Christ Cathedral in Salina Kansas. Richard Raymond Warner, 91, of Solomon, KS, passed away on September 7, 2020 at his home in Solomon. Richard was born January 30, 1929 in Junction City, Kansas to Raymond and Mabel (Handlin) Warner.

Richard graduated from Solomon High School and attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, KS, where he met his wife of 54 years, Gwen Woody. They were married June 8, 1950. Richard worked for the DS&amp;O for 40 years. He was a member of the Solomon Yoked Parish and served on the church board for many years. He was a school board member for USD #393, a Boy Scout leader, and a friend to all.

He is survived by his son, Jay Warner (Shirley) of Gainesville, TX, and daughters Gayle Nelson (Morris) of Marquette, KS, and Cindy Baker of Salina, KS, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Gwen Warner, his parents Raymond and Mabel Warner, and his sisters Rose Collins and Viola Potter.

Lucille Kay Hannebaum, 69, passed away June 27, 2020, at her home in Salina, KS. She was born in Salina on January 19, 1951, to Glenn Hannebaum and Opal (Fonck) Hannebaum, both of whom preceded her in death. "Luci" graduated from Tescott Rural High School and Emporia State University in Emporia, KS.

She is survived by a sister, Linda Hyde of Emporia; and two brothers, Leroy Hannebaum of Manhattan, and Leon Hannebaum (Judy) of Salina. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Luci was an avid sports fan, following the Kansas State University and Kansas City teams. She enjoyed playing softball in her youth.

Very fond of all animals, Luci particularly loved her dog Lexi, her companion for many years.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at Roselawn Cemetery.

Jon Paul Nelson, 56, died September 4, 2020. He was born January 29, 1964 to G.G. and Helen (Soukup) Nelson. He married Karla Bronson on August 4, 2015.

James "Jim" W. Prochazka, 79, of Atwood, Kansas passed peacefully from 
this life on September 6, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Born in McCook, NE to Bertha (Horinek) and Wenceslaus (W.E.) Prochazka 
on November 17, 1940, James was a lifelong resident of Rawlins County, 
KS. He attended elementary school at Queen of Driftwood School in the 
Driftwood Township of Northern Rawlins County, followed by Saint 
Joseph's Military Academy in Hays, KS, graduating with the Class of 
1958. Following a year at Kansas State University, Jim joined the Army 
Reserves in 1960, spending time in Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Fort 
Jackson, SC until his honorable discharge in 1965. He then returned to 
the family farm to pursue his passion of livestock, horses, farming, and
 ranching with his father. With unwavering pride in his community, Jim 
donated his time to many local councils and boards over the years, 
including 4-H Council, Rawlins County Rodeo Association, USD 318 School 
Board, Sacred Heart Catholic Church Parish Council, Rawlins County 
Extension Council, and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. 
On April 16, 1966, Jim married Patricia A. Arnold, daughter of Simon and
 Aldea (Plante) Arnold. Unto their union were born five children: 
Vanessa, Marcus, Valarie, Veanna, and Nicholas. 
Jim's adult years were spent on the farm and cattle feeding operation 
where he would eventually move his family in 1979. Following their 
years on the farm, Jim continued to provide for his family as owner of 
feedlot pen cleaning and excavating businesses, and as an owner operator
 for Landstar Inway for many years. Jim continued to be active into his 
retirement, with a few part-time jobs, none more enjoyable than his time
 spent, and friendships formed at CS Gas Company in Atwood. 
Jim maintained his role as the emotional and spiritual compass for his 
family throughout his life. A proud and dedicated patriarch, his family 
knew everything would be OK when Jim arrived with his calm presence. 
Relationships were important, and those close to Jim never had to 
question his admiration for them, especially his wife, children, and 
grandchildren. Jim was an avid gardening enthusiast and hero to 16 
grandchildren who thought he hung the moon. While generally a man of 
few words, he also cherished visits with family and friends, and, if you
 caught him at the right time, could find yourself in a conversation 
that could last for hours. 
James is preceded in death by parents, Bertha (Horinek) and W.E. 
Prochazka both Atwood, KS. He is survived by his wife of 54 years,

On September 4, 1960, Betty was united in marriage to Duane Mowbray at the Andover Lutheran Church, Windom. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she belonged to WELCA and the Altar Guild. Mowbray, 84, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2020, surrounded by family at The Cedars Healthcare Center. She was the former secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church and secretary to the Superintendent of Schools for U.S.D. #418. Betty was born on January 14, 1936, in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Walfred Cornelius and Mabel Florence (Johnson) Briggs. She graduated from Inman High School in 1954. On September 4, 1960, Betty was united in marriage to Duane Mowbray at the Andover Lutheran Church, Windom. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she belonged to WELCA and the Altar Guild. Survivors include: her loving husband of 60 years, Duane of the home; two children, Darin Mowbray and wife, Billi, of McPherson, KS and Darla Mowbray of Huntington Beach, CA; a sister, Vivian Smith and husband, Howard, of McPherson, KS; three grandchildren, Seth Mowbray (Catherine), Samantha Reitsma (Chance), and Danielle Leiker; and three great-grandchildren, Lillyth Huff, Emery Huff, and Averi Reitsma. She was preceded in death by her parents, half-brother, Hersal Briggs, and half-sister, Opal Racster. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, September 10, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Leaf officiating. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery. She was one of seven children born to the Winter family and left school after proudly graduating from 8th grade in 1951. Betty was encouraged through her faith everyday as a baptized child of God on May 2, 1943, and confirmed June 4, 1950, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lehigh, Kansas. Then off to work Betty went at the age of 15 until she retired at 79. Some of the many hats she wore were: Counter Girl at Duckwall’s, Live-In Nanny, Factory Worker (Hehr Midwest, Rolldex Windows, Kit, Certain-Teed &amp; Hesston Corp.), Betty’s Day Care, cleaning for the YMCA, the Courthouse and many McPherson households; along with her crossing guard position at Elm &amp; First for 31 years. On Sunday, April 29, 1956, she was united marriage to Keith L. Brewer at the Mennonite Church in Lehigh, KS at 7:30 PM. During their early marriage years, Keith served in the Army for two years in Germany. Once back in the states, they traveled with Samson’s Construction out of Alexander, KS as Keith worked building grain elevators. They moved around from Florence to Newton when Keith ran mail routes, before finally settling in McPherson, KS in 1961 after Pamala was born in their little camper. They lived in the camper in the trailer park until purchasing the family home built by Betty’s Grandpa Kasper in 1964. This union was additionally blessed with David (1965), Christopher (1967) and Matthew (1968). Betty entered peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, September 4, 2020, at Pine Village in Moundridge, KS. She was eighty-four. Survivors include: one daughter, Pam Axelson and husband, Jeff, of McPherson, KS; three sons, David Brewer and wife, Lisa, of Galva, KS, Chris Brewer and wife, Karen, of Surprise, AZ ,and Matthew Brewer of Topeka, KS; two brothers-in-law, Elmer Gooding of Tempe, AZ and Larry “Chip” Tector of Galva, KS; a sister-in-law, Mary Winter of McPherson, KS; eight grandchildren, Marissa, Miranda, Brooke, Nataleah, Nicole, Ashton, Courtney &amp; Logan, three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Levi &amp; Myleigh; and several nieces and nephews. Betty Loucille (Winter) Brewer

Lawrence “Shorty" Choitz, 90, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2020 in Wilson. He was born December 4, 1929 in Ellsworth to Emil and Dorothea “Dora” Choitz.

Shorty was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth County where he and Walter Schwerdtfeger were co-owners of A-1 Welding, which Shorty operated for over 50 years. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Shorty married Erma J. Choitz in Emporia, KS on December 26, 1955. The Lord blessed them with 3 healthy children.

Shorty never met a person he didn’t like, which sometimes got him into some interesting situations both good and not so good. He made new lifelong friends from other states or interesting characters off interstate 70, never to be seen again. He always felt like he needed to be working no matter what his age. From helping his parents at a young age to raise his younger siblings to hiring out to various neighbors in his teens to support himself, save money and send cash home to his mom to help her keep food on the table. After his time in Korea, he came back to Ellsworth, helped his mom with the farm, and started working at A-1 Welding for Wheeler Cornwell. He met Erma at the skating rink in Ellsworth and started dating her till they married. He later purchased the welding shop with his brother Harry and cousin Walter. He operated it until he could no longer physically do it. He would work at the shop all day and then sneak out to the country to run the tractor one more time or check the cattle just to see that new baby calf that might need some help out there on the farm. He loved getting in the car going for drives just to see what the rest of the world was doing and enjoyed traveling and camping. Erma had trouble getting him to leave work to go on vacation and then he was never ready to return home when she needed to get back to work. He came from the generation where your word was your bond and he trusted everyone.

Shorty is survived by his wife, Erma of Ellsworth; daughter, Mary Meier (Randy) of Lincoln; son, Bob Choitz (Megan) of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Derek Meier, Michelle Hair (Michael), and Gunner Choitz; great grandchildren, Dane and Grant Meier, and Lyle, Elisa and Ian Hair; and brothers, Emil Choitz, Jr. (Arlene) of Ellsworth and Ralph Choitz (Evelyn) of Ellsworth.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Choitz; infant daughter, Rita Kay Choitz; brothers, Edward, Norman, Gilbert, George, Harry, Carl and Frank Choitz; and sisters, Ruth Williams and Mabel Anschutz.

Visitation:1-8 p.m., Friday, September 11, 2020 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth.

Graveside service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 12, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ellsworth.
