Thomas V. Thanscheidt, 80, of Salina, passed away Friday, October 9, 2020. He was born October 4, 1940 in Mooreland, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William August “Auggie” and Mary Catherine (Moody) Thanscheidt; brothers, Harold “Okie” Thanscheidt, Roy Thanscheidt.

Survivors include his loving wife of 30 plus years, Anita (Scadden) Thanscheidt; children, Jeffery, William, Patrick, Carroll; grandchildren, Savannah, Thomas, Christopher, Dallas, Carroll.

Gwen L. Mutschler, 79, Delphos, died Thursday, October 15, 2020 in Minneapolis.&nbsp; She was born November 4, 1940 in Ellsworth to Lonnie and Irlene (Gross) Hurst.

Joseph LeRoy “Joe” Klaus, 86, Hays, died Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at HaysMed.

He was born April 14, 1934, in rural 
Ellis County, the son of Alex W. and Adeline (Leiker) Klaus.&nbsp; He was a 
graduate of St. Joseph Military Academy in the class of 1951.&nbsp; From 1953
 until 1955, he served in the United States Army in Korea.&nbsp; On May 28, 
1960, he was united in marriage to Janet Urban at Immaculate Heart of 
Mary Catholic Church in Hays, and they celebrated 60 years of marriage.&nbsp;


 Joe was a systems technician for Southwestern Bell for 32 years, 
retired from AT&amp;T in 1987, and owned and operated Joe’s Telephone 
Service for 15 years.&nbsp; He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary 
Catholic Church, St. Mary’s Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council 
#6984, Hays VFW Post #9076 where he was past Post Commander, and a 
longtime member of the VFW Honor Guard.&nbsp; He enjoyed his bowling league, 
tending to his yard and garden, watching western movies, his coffee 
group, and volunteering at the VFW.&nbsp; Most of all, he was a proud grandpa
 who loved his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Janet, of 
the home in Hays, two sons: Bill Klaus and wife Brenda and Bob Klaus and
 wife Tammy, all of Hays, three daughters: Karen Cederberg and husband 
Jim of Centennial, CO, Sharon Basinger of Centennial, CO, and Debbie 
Nunnelee and husband Cal of Highlands Ranch, CO, two sisters: Lillian 
Schlyer of Hays and Violet Mermis of Salina, 18 grandchildren, and 10 
great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his

Kenneth Johnson, of rural Delavan, passed away at his home on Thursday, October 8th.&nbsp; He was 98 years old.

Kenneth was born on March 8, 1922, to Ralph and Minerva (Jost) Johnson in Herington, KS. He attended Diamond Valley Rural High School in Burdick, KS.&nbsp; Through 4-H, he met his future wife, Rita Loomis and they were married at her family home at Helmick, KS on March 10, 1943.

Kenneth served in World War 11 and was a pilot in the United States Army Air Force.&nbsp; After the war, he returned to farming in the Delavan area and worked at Beech Aircraft, which was located at the army airfield. When Beech closed the facility, he moved to Wichita and worked for Beech, Boeing and Cessna, where he retired and returned to Delavan to continue farming.

He was a member of Church of Christ Christian, which is now Council Grove Christian Church, where he taught Sunday school and served as a deacon and an elder.&nbsp; Kenneth loved to visit and his infectious smile and wit will be missed by all.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and wife Rita.&nbsp; He is survived by his five children; Carole Cole, Phoenix, AZ, Cheryl Staats and husband Alan, Eagle Rock, MO, Jackie Staats and husband Don, Thornton, Co, Jim Johnson and wife Melaney, Delavan, and Donna Johnson, Greely, CO; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and sister Donna Schaid, Independence, KS.

&nbsp; Paul R. Hettenbach completed his earthly journey on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at his family home in Abilene, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, Joann (Holt), three children and five grandchildren. Andra Dunn and her children Sean Hettenbach and Kasey Dunn of Watagua, TX. Stacia (Tyler) Brown and their son, Liam of Frisco, TX. David (Alison) Hettenbach, their two sons, Elijah and Harrison of Westfield, IN. He is also survived by his four siblings: Susie (John) Kummer of Chapman, Bruce (Judy) Hettenbach of Abilene, Mary (Robert) Taylor of Abilene, and Karen (Dave) Crouch of Emporia; 6 nieces and 3 nephews. Paul attended schools in his hometown and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1970. He was looking forward to seeing many of his classmates at his 50th year class reunion that was postponed due to the pandemic. He played many sports throughout his school years, but basketball and football held a major place in his memory. He was selected all NCKL guard his junior year. As student council president his senior year, he found himself working closely with administrators and teachers, never dreaming that he would be again meeting and planning with many of them due to his 24 year service on the Abilene USD 435 School Board. Following high school, he attended Kansas State University, receiving his BS in Business Administration in 1974. He enjoyed telling people that he worked as house boy at West Hall girl’s dormitory where he had a small apartment with responsibility of keeping a certain amount of order and locking doors at night. There were two major perks. First, he never ate alone as there were always tables of girls he could join at the Derby Food Service. As great as that was, he considered having his own reserved parking spot on campus to be the biggest reward. In 1974, he married Joann and they moved to Dodge City, Kansas where he worked as parts manager for Foley Tractor. After two and a half years of wind and dust and wind, they returned to Abilene where Paul went into business with his father as part owner/operator of Hettenbach Construction Company. When his father retired, he assumed full ownership and continued building terraces, waterways, ponds, dams, road approach grading, digging holes in the ground, leveling foundation sites, and maybe his favorite task of crunching up old buildings to be cleared away. There was really nothing he liked better than climbing into a Caterpillar bulldozer or excavator and wreaking havoc and then smoothing it all out to complete a project. He was on a job site when he succumbed to a cancer related infection that landed him back at KU Med Center for three weeks. He came back home with the full intent of finishing up a terracing project for a local farmer only to find himself back at KUMC for another week. He returned home to Hospice care and died two weeks later. Paul was a man of faith and a life-long member of the Abilene First United Methodist Church, where he served on nearly all committees, some, multiple times. The one thing he never joined was the choir (for good reason). He was a member of the Kansas Land Improvement Contractors Association for over 50 years where he held every office and continued on as treasurer for several years until his death. He received the Contractor of the Year Award in 1991 and was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work and service to the organization in 2019. Nothing made him happier than to bring a new member into the group he cared so much about. He was a member of Abilene’s Early Morning Breakfast Group that met at a number of restaurants around town, if the restaurant opened early enough. In case you wonder, these are the men who have all the answers to whatever problem is facing the city, and sometimes may actually solve one. He was a board member for Abilene &amp; Smoky Valley Railroad and supported the Wild Bill Hickok Rodeo. He contributed nearly 18 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. Paul was a man of many friends; he loved telling jokes and laughed wholeheartedly; he fixed broken things; he knew every road in Dickinson County and many surrounding areas; he was a social person who never forgot a name or face; he was known by many children as the ‘high-five’ guy; Paul loved the community’s children and followed with great interest their accomplishments from their early years through high school and beyond; he avidly followed high school sports and rarely missed home games; he knew the kids of Abilene and reveled in their academic accomplishments. He was a member of a scholarship committee and would bring home stacks of applications. He read hundreds of essays from beginning to end and followed the success of many young students. He loved Kansas State Football and was a season ticket holder for 24 years. He loved tailgating and roamed the parking lot talking to fellow fans. His greatest pride was his grandchildren and the feeling was mutual. He loved roughhousing and floor play. They begged for tickles and somersaults and being lifted over his head. Their love was full of giggles and screams and laughter. But their favorite activity was when he took them to the machines and he taught them to move the excavator and dig up dirt piles. They would ride in the bulldozer and dump truck and ask for more. They just wanted to be with him, and life was good for all of them. Paul was a man of hard work who took pride in moving and shaping the earth. He was strong with great physical strength. He survived colon cancer and returned to work; he survived esophageal cancer with all its after effects and returned to work; he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, took treatments alternate weeks and returned to work. Work was the thing that kept him alive and happy. He endured so much during these various battles and rarely complained. Paul was a helper. When there was a snow storm coming, he would be out in the dark getting the equipment ready for the following day, and up before dawn to clear parking lots and driveways. When the Chapman tornado hit late in the evening, he got the call at 11:30 p.m. to haul a machine over to help clear streets and find residents. If there was an ice storm that caused a power outage, he loaded up the generator and was out to heat up homes for sick and elderly residents. He wasn’t afraid to dig in and push forward to help others. He was a man of the community and we don’t even yet know the many things we will miss because he is no longer with us. So pay attention to the thunder because it might be Paul pushing and shoving the clouds around. Due to the pandemic, the family will plan a Celebration of Life service at a later date. David Michael Gibbs, 66, of Salina, KS passed away at his home October 9th, 2020. Mike, as he was best known, was born on July 23, 1954 to Roy Alexander Gibbs, Sr and Emily Lorraine Selby-Gibbs in Sedalia, MO. On May 9th, 1980 he married Kimberly Wilson and they had just celebrated forty years of marriage.

Mike had been employed with Airgas USA, LLC for thirty-two years and was the Director of DOT Compliance for the company’s Central Division.&nbsp; Mike's dedication to the company and his peers was evident to all.&nbsp;His contributions to the compressed gas industry will be missed, but his legacy will live on.

Mike is preceded in death by both of his parents and one sister, Mary Lou Lemon. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Kim Gibbs of the home. One sister and brother in law, Joan and Cliff Karvinen, of Bonita Springs, Florida and one brother Roy Gibbs. He also had one niece, Tracy Karvinen and her spouse, Courtney Hupp; two nephews, Brain Karvinen and his wife Dee, and Glen Lemon.

Mike had many close friends who became adopted family; Bill Travis and fiancé Katrina Sheffield and their children, Ashton, Colin, Jordan and Abigail all of Salina. Donna Gaulding, her husband Dennis and their children Avery, Alivia and Addie of Coweta, OK. Mike also leaves behind numerous close friends and his entire Airgas family where he spent most of his time.

At his request, no service will be held, and his ashes will be spread at a later date. Mike was known for his generous and kind nature to all of those around him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice in Mike’s name.

C.R. “Dick” Frain, 85, Minneapolis, died Wednesday, October 14, 2020.&nbsp; He was born July 14, 1935 near Minneapolis to Theodore and Doris (Nelson) Frain.

He and Frances Van Meter were united in marriage on March 9, 1957.&nbsp; Dick was a longtime farmer and bus driver for North Ottawa County Schools.&nbsp;

Survivors are his wife, Fran; son, Sheldon (Denise) Frain; daughter, Barbara (Frank) Lafata; and brother, Robert (Dixie) Frain.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, October 19, 2020 at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.&nbsp; Visitation without the family present will be from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. &nbsp; LaVerna May Giesbrecht was born LaVerna May Nickel to Pete and Bernice Nickel in Goessel KS, on November 24, 1943. She left this life on October 11, 2020 in Surprise AZ. We were married on September 20, 1970 and to this union were added 8 children, which to those who knew her, were the mission, dedicated purpose, and love of her life.

LaVerna was raised and received her education in Goessel, Kansas. 

She spent time working in Gallup Children’s Home, worked in Grace nursing home and spent time as a teacher in the Mexico mission field. 

After we were married, we spent two years in the mission at Apodaca Mexico and later, 2 more years as tract workers in Saltillo Mexico. 

Most of her years were lived in the El Mirage/Surprise area of Arizona and was always active in caring concerns. This also includes our time in Montrose Colorado area for around 7 years. 

Often after a church service her children would hear her ask the question, “Do they have a place for dinner?” She loved cooking, sewing, and being of service. 

Perhaps one of the best ways to characterize her life was that she not only cared for her own children, but also the many foster children that came through our home.

She leaves to celebrate her life and mourn her loss, me her husband Randall, 3 sons: Mark and Marilou, Bob and Glenda, Steve and Kendra; 5 daughters: Nancy, Amy and Van Richardson, Lisa Michelle Medina, Melissa and Quinton Unruh and Jodi; 17grandchildren. Missing her are her brothers, sister, nephews and nieces, cousins and many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her father, mother and sister Janice.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob Janousek; son, Jack Janousek; and siblings, Miles Vasko, Cecilia Barta, Verna Mattas, Irene Vasko, and Leo Vasko.

Jennifer Kay Maneth, age 62, loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, left her family to gain her eternal wings on Tuesday October 13th, 2020 at Diversicare of Council Grove.

Jennifer was born May 4, 1958 to William (Bill) &amp; Kay (Dorfshaffer) Maneth. She was a long time resident of Great Bend, Kansas and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1976. Jennifer worked at Marmie Motor’s in Great Bend as a bookkeeper. In August of 1981, she had her only child, Samantha (Maneth) Asebedo. On and off over the year’s she took college classes at Barton County Community College. She enjoyed the art classes falling in love with oil painting and ceramics. In 1999 she moved to Denver, Colorado, working at several different places. She moved back to Kansas in 2007, to Council Grove, for the birth of her first grandchild. Of all of the things she loved most; it was her family and animals.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her father William F. Maneth, granddaughter Odella Asebedo, and both sets of grandparents. She is survived by her mother Kay E. (Dorshaffer) Maneth of Great Bend, daughter Samanatha J. (Matthew)Asebedo of Wilsey, grandchildren Isabella &amp; Noah Asebedo of Wilsey, her 2 brothers John (Sandra) Maneth of Great Bend, and David (Angela) Maneth of Wichita.

Cremation has taken place, family visitation will be held Oct 24, 2020 from 10am - 12pm at Bryant Funeral Home in Great Bend. There will be a private family burial.

Jennifer Kay Maneth

Tammy's life began on August 11, 1960 in Topeka, Kansas.  She was the daughter of Richard L. and Barbara (Davis) Reitz. 

 She attended college at Cloud County Community College. 

 Tammy worked as a pellet packer for the Hodgdon Powder Company for 18 years. 

 She was involved in Job's Daughters and Girl Scouting as a youngster. 

 Tammy was more than just a family person; she was passionate about her family.  Her world revolved around them and she adored her children and grandchildren. 

 Tammy loved to cook, and she loved to tent camp, as long as it was with her family. 

 She is survived by her mother Barbara Reitz; children Travis (Mindy) Reitz, Dustin (Janna) Smith, Nichole Ryff-Pitts, Joshua (Carrie) Ryff, Matthew (Tara) Ryff and Makayla Forichette; 20 grandchildren; her siblings Rob ( Julie) Reitz, Ron (Brenda) Reitz, Crissy (Chad) Cook, Cory ( Jenn) Reitz and Heidi (Billy) Bush and multiple nieces and nephews. 

 Tammy passed away on October 12, 2020 at Herington Municipal Hospital. 

 She is preceded in death by her father Richard.

Robert “Bobby” Crough, age 82 of Clyde, KS, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2020 at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde.&nbsp; He was born on September 15, 1938 in Salina, KS to Vincent M. &amp; Faye V. (Harder) Crough.

He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1956 and attended Ft. Hays State College.&nbsp; He married Elizabeth Anne Coates on Dec. 7, 1985 in Salina, KS.&nbsp; Bobby’s passion was the car business.&nbsp; Throughout his career he owned two dealerships and was sales manager for several dealerships in Kansas and Oklahoma. &nbsp;He was a member of the Catholic Church. &nbsp;Bobby touched so many lives and could connect with others in the most remarkable way. &nbsp;He truly loved his family and friends and has left each of us with “Bobby stories” that make us laugh, astound us, or warm our hearts.

He is survived by his wife, Anne, Clyde; daughters, Shellee Lujan, Roundrock, TX, Kathee Crough, Dallas, TX and Dana Singleton, Salina; sister, Mary Pennachi, Seattle, WA and brother, Curtis “Bud” Crough (Ruth), Rockport, TX, 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert “Bobby” Crough

Lewis B. Linden, age 97, of Concordia, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at Mt. Joseph Senior Village, Concordia.&nbsp; He was born on Sept. 24, 1923 in New Almelo, KS to Arnold H. &amp; Catherine (Wahlmeier) Linden.

Lewis graduated from Jennings High School, Jennings, KS. He was married to Rose Martin and they were blessed with two children Frances and Michael. &nbsp;He owned and operated his own construction business in Colby, KS, proudly named Linden Construction which was later passed on to his son. He continued doing what he loved by doing odd and end jobs for friends and family up until he retired.&nbsp; After his retirement he moved to Texas to enjoy life, travel, play golf, and spend time with his family and friends.&nbsp; One of his many hobbies was making beautiful jewelry. Later, life and family led him to Concordia. There he fell in love and married Edith (Currie) Sallman. Together they made beautiful memories and enjoyed life to the fullest until his last day. &nbsp;&nbsp;Lewis never knew a stranger and he had one of the most kind, caring hearts you can imagine. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife, Edith Sallman, Concordia; son, Michael Linden, Concordia; grandchildren, Heather Wilkins (Bill), Cozad, NE, Bethanie Cameron (Scott), Colby, Tim (Tammy) Trail, Topeka, Tom (Sherie) Trail, Atwood; stepdaughters, Ruth Gardner, Fran Trost (Larry), Marilyn Lowell (Rodney), and Phyllis Shanks all of Concordia, Alice Goddard, Jamestown; and many, many grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Frances Trail; his parents; 4 brothers &amp; 2 sisters: stepdaughter Iris Lee.

Joseph Senior Village, Concordia.&nbsp; He was born on Sept. 24, 1923 in New Almelo, KS to Arnold H. &amp; Catherine (Wahlmeier) Linden.Lewis graduated from Jennings High School, Jennings, KS. He was married to Rose Martin and they were blessed with two children Frances and Michael. &nbsp;He owned and operated his own construction business in Colby, KS, proudly named Linden Construction which was later passed on to his son. He continued doing what he loved by doing odd and end jobs for friends and family up until he retired.&nbsp; After his retirement he moved to Texas to enjoy life, travel, play golf, and spend time with his family and friends.&nbsp; One of his many hobbies was making beautiful jewelry. Later, life and family led him to Concordia. There he fell in love and married Edith (Currie) Sallman. Together they made beautiful memories and enjoyed life to the fullest until his last day. &nbsp;&nbsp;Lewis never knew a stranger and he had one of the most kind, caring hearts you can imagine. Jeanie Desaire, 71, of Salina, died October 9, 2020 in the comfort of her home. She was born on October 10, 1948 to James and Louise Carney in Salina. She graduated from Salina High School in 1966. Immediately following high school, Jeanie began her 44 year career at Westinghouse which later became Philips Lighting. She retired in the Quality Control department in 2011.

Jeanie met Richard Desaire in 1969 and they married on February 7, 1970. They celebrated their 50th anniversary on Feb. 7, 2020. Jeanie spent her free time on sewing, quilting, and embroidery projects. Most of all Jeanie loved family time, attending KSU football games, spending time with grandkids, and traveling the country with Richard, and their dog, Willie.

Jeanie was proceeded in death by her parents, James and Louise Carney, and her sisters, Carol Scantling and Sandie Clark.

Jeanie is survived by her devoted husband, Richard Desaire; her daughters Tami Hull (Johnny) Olathe, KS and Dara Bennett (Todd) Olathe, KS; her sister, Sharon Wilson Salina, KS, and her four grandchildren, Taryn and Jordy Hull, and Kinsley and Jase Bennett.

There will be a private graveside service for immediate family.

Leroy Fahey Holmes, 78, of Salina, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020. He was born July 7, 1942, in Denver, Colorado, to Darrell and Agnes (Atwell) Holmes. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, participating in Salina Senior Games, and watching/attending sporting events especially those with his grandchildren.

Leroy is survived by his children, Kristi Pike (Sean) of Salina, and Reed Holmes (Debi), of Denver; grandchildren, Ivan, Alyssa, Jeffery, Nathan, Erica, Brandon, Dustan (Mya), Tyler (Kristi), and Salena; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Kaleb, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Marcus, Adelynn, Kassandra and Sydney; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Janet, of 54 years; his parents; sister Carol and her husband Julian McEwen.

Shirley A. Wilson, 87, Enterprise, went to sleep in Jesus on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.&nbsp; She was born November 27, 1932 in Delphos to O.R. and Tossie (Sinclair) Somers.

Shirley and Harold Eugene Wilson were united in marriage on May 1, 1956.&nbsp; To this union, four children joined the family.&nbsp; She spent time as a cosmetologist, nurse, and devoting herself to her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Kelly Karber.&nbsp;

Shirley will be held closely in the hearts of those who loved her.&nbsp; Survivors are her husband, Eugene; children, Cheryl and Russell Mohr, Pete and Patty Wilson, and Brent and Stacy Wilson; 10 grandchildren and their spouses whom she loved as her own; 20 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Nancy Graham.

Joan G. (Klein) Rinehart

&nbsp; Ione Marie Nelson, 87, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2020, in her daughter's home and in the same room in which Marquette's midwife delivered her on January 20, 1933. She was the youngest of three children born to Chester and Verna Lindstrom. As the only girl, she was known by her family as "Sis."

After graduating from Marquette High School in 1951, Ione began nurse's training at the Trinity Lutheran Hospital in Kansas City. She then moved to Massachusetts to take a postgraduate course in labor and delivery at the Boston Lying-In Hospital. It was there that she met a Boston University student, Clarke Hamlet. The two were married in 1956 and moved to Lexington in 1958. They had three daughters: Susan, Diane, and Lisa, and together Clarke &amp; Ione created a childhood full of wonderful memories for their girls. They divorced in 1975, and Ione &amp; Lisa moved back to Marquette in 1979. The twenty-one years in Lexington were special for Ione. The neighborhood was ethnically diverse, and Ione was undoubtedly the glue that held it together. She was considered a best and lifelong friend to many, even after moving out of the neighborhood.

When Ione returned to Marquette to care for her aging parents, she began dating Blackie Nelson. They were married in 1981 and shared a love of dancing, cards, politics, travel, and their newly blended families. After her parents moved to town, Ione and Blackie moved into the family farm home where she was raised. Blackie passed away in 2007.

Ione always had a pot of Swedish egg coffee on the stove and loved visiting with family and friends who dropped by. She only yelled when rooting on her favorite sports teams and was a great cook who loved to eat far more than indicated by her tiny frame. She was devoted to her children and many grandchildren who cherished the time spent with her at the family farm. She also loved her cats and dogs, even making them chicken soup when they weren't feeling well. Following a series of strokes, Ione moved into Riverview Estates and lived there for several years. While there, she loved to spend time with her friend Jeff, watching music shows, documentaries, sports, and eating meals together. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Verna Lindstrom, her brothers Merle and Vern, four grandchildren, beloved cousins, and many dear friends.

Ione is survived by her daughters Susan Buffington (Randy Jirak) and Diane (Darryl) Talbott of Marquette, Lisa Christensen (Patrick Faust) of Charlevoix, Michigan, the Nelson boys: Barry (Carylee), Morris (Gayle), and Linn (Lou) of Marquette and Kale (Kelly) of Ft. Scott, 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three nieces and her special friend, Jeff Kennedy.

Per Covid 19 regulations the family is having a private family memorial service at Elim Lutheran Church, Marquette, Kansas at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 with Reverend Amy Kay Pavlovich officiating.

&nbsp; Nadine Threse (Cox) O’Neill, 88, passed away on October 13, 2020, in McPherson, KS. Nadine Threse O’Neill was born in rural Marquette, KS to Signe Pauline and Clifford Lee Cox on January 30, 1932. She received her education in Windom, KS and went on to obtain a one-day bookkeeping system certification from a CPA in McPherson, KS. Nadine had one sister, Norma Jean Graham, who preceded her in death. She was married to Vernon John “Jack” O’Neill on June 15, 1951 in Wichita, KS. Jack and Nadine moved to Windom, KS after being married and lived in the community for many years. They were members of the Windom Methodist Church, where Nadine served as board member and Women’s Secretary and Treasurer. She was very active in her community serving as City Clerk, even worked as a phone operator and bookkeeper for the Windom Telephone Company as well as hostess of the Senior Center for many years. Nadine was widowed in 1995 after her loving husband, Vernon “Jack”, passed away of cancer. Several years later, Nadine met Robert Kelley, and they spent many years together traveling the globe. Some memorable trips were to Paris, Germany, France and Ireland where she hung upside down to kiss the Blarney Stone, and cruises to the Caribbean, Venezuela, and Africa. Nadine is preceded in death by her sister, Norma Jean, husband, Vernon “Jack”, parents, Signe Pauline and Clifford Lee. Nancy L. (Bates) Thornburgh, 98, passed away October 12, 2020 at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River.

Nancy was born southeast of Kanopolis, KS to Lyndon D. And Florence (Cadwell) Bates on June 28, 1922. She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1940 and married William D. Thornburgh on September 25, 1949. He died in 1992.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Margaret Hart, Kate Webster, and Rosma Seward; and brother, L.D. Bates, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Jane (Terry) Kueser of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Sarah (Colby Richard) Kueser of Ellsworth and John (Katie) Kueser of Ellsworth; great grandchildren, Josie and Zane Kueser; and a host of friends and neighbors.

Nancy L. (Bates) Thornburgh, 98, passed away October 12, 2020 at Sandstone Heights Nursing Home in Little River.Nancy was born southeast of Kanopolis, KS to Lyndon D. And Florence (Cadwell) Bates on June 28, 1922. She graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1940 and married William D. Thornburgh on September 25, 1949. He died in 1992.Nancy was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Margaret Hart, Kate Webster, and Rosma Seward; and brother, L.D. Stella Marie Swisher passed away on October 11, 2020 at Diversicare of Council Grove. She was born October 23, 1924 to Emory and LuLu Brownell in Wilsey, Kansas.

On March 25, 1944, she married Clyde Swisher in Wichita, KS and made their home in Wilsey, farming on the family farmstead. They had three children: Phillip, Jeffery and Cindy.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Stella was a member of the Wilsey Christian Church.&nbsp; She was in several different card clubs. Her enjoyment came from working in her flower and vegetable gardens.&nbsp; She canned 100’s of quarts of vegetables each year for her family. Stella was an excellent seamstress and quilter, as well as an exceptional cook.&nbsp; She worked at White Memorial Camp, Council Grove school cafeteria and Dolly Madison. After Clyde retired in 1972, they moved to Council Grove. Stella loved her family; spending time with her children and grandchildren brought her the most joy.

Stella is preceded in death by her parents; husband Clyde; son Phillip Swisher; granddaughter Jessica Swisher; great-grandson William Swisher; brothers: Harold and Lester Brownell; sisters: Irene Roberts, Harriette Daines, Hazel Blaylock and Frances Ferguson.

She is survived by her daughter Cindy Obee and husband Don of Emporia and son Jeff Swisher, of McPherson; grandchildren: John Swisher, Nathon Daniels, Jason Swisher, Joseph Swisher, Colby Hayes and step-grandson Jeff Parker;&nbsp;11 great-grandchildren; brother Eldon Brownell, of Biggs, CA; and sisters Helen Hewitt, of Norwich and Shirley Belew, of Mulvane.

Ruthann’s life began on February 21, 1943, the daughter of Russell Howard and Dorothy Gayle (Garten) Elliott in Enid, Oklahoma. Ruthann (Elliott) Dies

George R. Warburton, age 89, entered into rest on October 12, 2020 at the Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on October 16, 1930 in San Pedro, California to George H. and Margaret H. (Dreeshen) Warburton.

On September 25, 1952 he married Lily L. Cook in Las Vegas, Nevada.

George served in the US Navy for 9 years aboard the USS Jason and USS Frank Knox.&nbsp; He then joined the US Air Force for 11 years retiring honorably in 1968.&nbsp;

George sold insurance for Mutual of Omaha for a short time, before starting his career in law enforcement in Wakefield, Kansas as an Auxiliary Police Officer.&nbsp; In 1973 the family moved to Clifton, Kansas where he served as the Chief of Police.&nbsp; He then served as Deputy and as a Police Officer in Beloit, Kansas.&nbsp; In 1977 they moved to Clyde, Kansas where he became Police Chief and served with the Cloud County Sheriff’s Department.&nbsp; George was employed by the US Postal Service in Clyde as a rural mail carrier until his retirement.

George and Lily enjoyed traveling, and camping.&nbsp; They were members of the Rising Clouds RV Club. &nbsp;They traveled throughout the US in their RV meeting and making lots of new friends.

He was a member of the VFW Post #7515 and Masonic Lodge both of Clyde and American Legion Post 227, Clifton, also the Kansas Peace Officer Association.

He is survived by&nbsp; his wife Lily of Clyde, son, Bruce Warburton, Wray, CO; son, Mike Warburton (Dana), Great Bend, KS; daughter, Cindy Derusseau (Mike), Clyde, KS; son, Robbin Warburton (Kristi), Las Vegas, NV; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret, a son, Edward Warburton, and a brother, Harold Warburton.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 17, 2020 at the Chaput Mortuary, Clyde, with Pastor Bob Burns officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Clyde.&nbsp; Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post # 7515 of Clyde and The US Air Force Honor Guard.

George R. Warburton

&nbsp; Byrdene Ann Hall 64, died Saturday September 19, 2020, in Conroe Texas.

Byrdene was born on March 15, 1956, to Clyde and Arely Howard, in San Bernardino California.

She attended schools in Southern California until 1969, when the family returned to Abilene Kansas.

Her first marriage gave her two beautiful children, Brandy and Beau. In 1982 she married Bill Hall and later gave birth to her youngest daughter, Bobbi.

Byrdene spent the majority of her adult life raising her children and working for the family business'. She enjoyed working for her father at the convenience stores that he owned. She worked as a cashier and loved to interact with the public.

Byrdene loved to laugh and have a good time. She was one of the most accepted and loving people you would ever meet. Byrdene was a music lover, but especially Elvis. Her children will tell you growing up in her house there was a wall of Jesus and a wall of Elvis. There first family vacation was to Graceland.

Rasing three children on her own she took on the role of both parents and did not take the job lightly. She was an amazing study partner, motivator, and leader. Her children were her life.

In 2002 she obtained her CNA license, and moved into the health care field. She provided home health and private care for elderly as well as those with special needs. She welcomed her first grandchild in the summer of 2002, and he was followed by four more grandchildren soon after. She enjoyed being a grandmother more than anything in the world.

In 2009 her daughter moved to Texas and Byrdene spent the next ten years traveling between Kansas and Texas. She spent her later years traveling with her children and grandchildren. She loved the water, whether it was the beach, lake, or the pool. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren grow. She supported them in all they did. Many days and nights were spent on sidelines and in bleachers.

She was the second of four children. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her older brother Thomas Howard. She is survived by her two sisters, Melissa Zelniker and husband Steve Zelniker of Abilene. Denise Howard of Abilene. Two daughters, Brandy Parson and husband Stan Parson of Abilene. Bobbi Middleton and husband Scott Middleton, of Montgomery TX. One son, Beau Boston and wife Jodi Boston of Abilene. One raised like her own, Amanda Hall of Abilene. Her grandchildren; Cameron, Kennidee, and Clyde Middleton. Michael, Adam, Kayla, Trista, and Aron Parson. A niece and multiple nephews, as well as many loving friends. She was a mother to many, and will be missed by all that knew her.

Visitation for Byrdene will be from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm Thursday, October 22, 2020 at the Danner Funeral Home in Abilene. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 pm Friday, October 23, 2020 at the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Abilene with Father Randall Weber as Celebrant. Her final resting place will be in the Mt.
