Bruce Edward Bigler, 74, of Clay Center, died Sunday, October 23, 2022 at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor.&nbsp; He was born on August 26, 1948 in Clay Center, the son of Jacob and Mae (Talbot) Bigler.

He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after over 30 years. Before that, he served three years in the Army and was a Vietnam veteran. Bruce participated in the Veterans Honor Flight in 2018.

Bruce was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and trapping. He even got his picture in the paper in the '80s for a record catfish from the Republican River.

Bruce was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Bigler, his parents Mae and Jacob Bigler, Sr., and sisters LaNora Eschelman and Connie Hullum.

Bruce is survived by his brothers Jacob Bigler, Jr. and wife Sharon of Wichita, KS and James Bigler and wife Yolanda of Van Nuys, CA, and his eight nieces and nephews, Deborah Bigler, Chris Jones, Pam Riley, David Bigler, Patti Soliman, Ric Rosenkranz, Paula Riley-Ring, and Justin Bigler.

He is also survived by great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Honor Flight in his name and can be sent in care of the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.

We sincerely thank the Presbyterian Manor and Meadowlark Hospice for caring for our uncle. It was clear that they cared about him and we appreciate them greatly.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29th at 10:30 a.m. at the Clay Center United Methodist Church. Respect calls will be held at the church on Saturday, from 9:30 Aa.m. until service time.

Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center.

James Lee Stalcup was born on November 15, 1949 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Verdun and Vera Stalcup. He died on October 18, 2022 at the Downs Care and Rehab Center in Downs, Kansas at the age of 72.

Jim graduated from Derby High School in 1968, and served as a Sedgwick County fireman and EMT. He also worked at the Sedgwick County Zoo.

On March 31, 1979, he was united in marriage with Debra Neifert. Two daughters, Rebecca and Stefanie were born to this union.

The family moved to Glen Elder, where he started working for the school district. He served many roles with the school before retiring. Upon retirement, he worked many odd jobs to fill his time.

Jim enjoyed coin collecting, coaching his daughters’ softball teams, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family, grandchildren, and cats.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Debra of the home; daughters Rebecca and husband Tony Prochaska of Simpson, and Stefanie and husband Trevor Gardner of Glen Elder; sister Emilie Lockett of Hinesville, Georgia; and grandchildren Sage and Jacob Prochaska, and Elizabeth Gardner.

Graveside memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 25 at the Glenwood Cemetery in Glen Elder. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. 

Memorials may be given to Solomon Valley Hospice, the Glen Elder First Christian Church, or Post Rock Humane Society.

Frances Darlene Moritz, resident of Chapman, Kansas, passed away on October 24, 2022 at the age of 90. She was born August 13, 1932 at Burlington, Kansas, the daughter of Bert and Maude (Garrett) Decker.

She graduated from Burlington High School with the class of 1950. While a student, Darlene worked at Shaull’s Drug Store and Burlington Country Club. 

After graduation she worked for Coffee County Rural Electric Cooperative until moving to Kansas City, MO in 1951. While there she trained for the Northern Division with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company to move to Topeka. She was a secretary to the division maintenance supervisor until she married and transferred to the Wichita office and worked until 1956. On September 3, 1955, she married James Moritz in Burlington, Kansas. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary three months before he passed away.

She worked for her husband at Alpine Moving and Storage Company in Wichita, KS until they started their family. In 1970 the family moved to Milford, Kansas and she helped her husband on the farm and also worked for Dean Berneking Catering for 10 years. Darlene was active in her community and church. She belonged to Beta Sigma Phi and held several offices while in Topeka. She was a member of Pleasant View EHU, Circle, St. Xavier Catholic Church, Junction City, Kansas and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Chapman, KS. She is survived by her daughters Marilyn (Monty) Ferris, Wamego, KS, Loretta (Joe) Fisher and Sandra (Curtis) Barbee both of Chapman, KS; and son Harvey (Stacy) Moritz also of Chapman, KS; son-in-law, David Manning of Chapman, KS; grandchildren Crystal, Jessie, Lance, Mistie, Melissa, Shane, Alecia, Jessica, Molly, Kera, Casey, Tanner, Macie, Chris, J. R, and Amanda;&nbsp;and 37 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband James; daughter Brenda Manning; parents Bert and Maude Decker; two brothers and five sisters. Rosary with the family will be Thursday, Oct. 27th at 5:00-5:30 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Chapman, KS. Visitation will follow rosary from 5:30-7:00. Twila Gene Holt, age 90, passed away at her home on October 18, 2022. She was born on May 2, 1932 near Abilene, KS to John and Elizabeth Longenecker.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was married to Rosanlee Holt on December 27, 1951, at the Zion Brethren in Christ Church, Abilene, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp; 

She lived near and in Talmage, KS all her life except for two years serving in voluntary service with Rosanlee for the Mennonite Central Committee in Ontario, Canada. &nbsp;

She attended the Chronister Grade School and graduated from Chapman High School in 1950. &nbsp;

Twila was a member of the Emmanuel Church, Abilene, KS.&nbsp; She was actively involved as a children’s Sunday school teacher for many years at the Zion Brethren in Christ Church.&nbsp; While at Zion, she was also actively involved with planning and coordinating a variety of dinners, sewing circle and other activities throughout the years.

Rosanlee and Twila operated a farming and hog operation near Talmage for over 40 years.&nbsp;&nbsp; They also owned and operated Holt Trucking, custom swathing operations, CRP grass planting and tree-cutting businesses.&nbsp; They sponsored the Talmage Girls softball team and the Holt Truckliners Women’s softball team for a number of years. &nbsp;

Twila earned her real estate and broker’s license and worked with Rosanlee to build the T. G. Holt Auction and Realty selling real estate and conducting auctions.

Twila and Rosanlee were also the 4-H Leaders for the Talmage Progressive 4-H Club.&nbsp; Twila and Rosanlee helped to revitalize the Talmage Senior Center with Twila serving as president.

Twila loved to work with people and enjoyed visiting with friends over coffee.&nbsp; Twila and Rosanlee were avid campers and belonged to the Lazy Swingers camping club.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was active with the camping club as an officer and served on the State Campers Club Executive Council for planning local and state camping activities.

An accomplished seamstress, Twila was known for her unique quilts and pillows which she made and sold in the area.&nbsp; Many of the quilts also found their way into her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s homes. Twila also spent many years sewing clothing for her family. &nbsp;

Twila worked part-time as the Talmage Post Office Relief Clerk and enjoyed meeting and working with the area patrons.

Twila loved to cook and try different recipes.&nbsp; Not only during the holiday seasons, but throughout the year, she was known for making goodies for shut-ins and others who needed cheering up or just for fun.

Twila is survived by two daughters, Linda Morgan and Sandra (Richard) Allen; five grandchildren Raquel Chavez; Brooke (Scott Stecklein) Morgan; Ryan (Cortney) Morgan; Joshua (Corey) Allen, Nathan (Alley) Allen; and nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; Lois Musser of Petersburg, W.V., and Dorothy Girard of San Angelo, Texas.

Twila was preceded in death by husband Rosanlee; son-in-law Ray Morgan, six sisters, Bertha Durkee, Martha Merritt, Laura Kuntz, Fannie McBeth, Florence Kirkland, and a sister in infancy and four brothers, Preston Longenecker, Vernon Longenecker Frank Longenecker and Floyd Longenecker.

The family has chosen cremation.&nbsp; A memorial service will be on Friday, November 11, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Abilene Emmanuel Church with Pastor Gordon McClure officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp; Inurnment will be in the Prairiedale Cemetery at a later date.

SALINA –&nbsp;James “Jim” Reid, 74, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 19, 2022.&nbsp; He was born June 5, 1948 in Salina, the son of the late Harold and Felica Reid.

Jim was a lifetime resident of Salina.&nbsp; Throughout his life, Jim was a plumber by trade.&nbsp; In the 1980s he had his own plumbing business, followed by a 27-year career at Salina Regional Health Center in the maintenance department. &nbsp;

Jim’s happiest moments were living on his five acres of land in Lincoln County.&nbsp; In 2009 Jim fell in love with Linda Hindman and she joined him on the acreage to live out the last 13 wonderful years.&nbsp; Jim’s kind gentle demeanor will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Felicia; brother Tony; and sister Ellen Higby.

He is survived by wife Linda of the home; sons Dusty and Dylan; daughter Jenna; stepdaughter Amy Wagner (Cary); stepdaughter Beth Schmidt (Rod); brother Tom Reid; sister Sylvia Smock; two granddaughters, four stepgrandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. &nbsp;

Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. with a funeral service beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Prairie Mound Cemetery, Ellsworth County, KS. &nbsp;

Darlene Marie Caramico, born in Brooklyn, New York on December 23, 1957, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022 from AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia).

She fought long and hard to stay with us for as long as she could. She was braver than we thought and selfless. On this day, she thought of everyone but herself. "If the blood I am using can help someone who really needs it, then I'd rather it go to them." She was always doing things for others, she was always a great friend, great sister, and an amazing partner.

She is survived by her partner of 10 years, Harlea McCain, her stepbrother Michael J. Keller, and several awesome ladies in South Florida, Melissa Puzon, Maritza Diaz, Weberlin Gonzalez, and Dr. Latricia A. Ross Mozley (Pastor).

Pauline Ione Peterson Redden, 98, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Friday, October 21st, 2022.

Pauline was born in Gypsum, Kansas on November 5, 1923, a daughter of Emma Elizabeth (Hubele) and Karl William Kogler.

She enjoyed many good times in these two groups, Delphine Club and Sigma Sigma Kappa. She was also a member of Gypsum United Methodist Church.

She moved from the farm to Gypsum after Leonard's passing, where she served on the city council and as mayor of Gypsum for two years. She loved sewing, playing the piano, and once playing the drums at the Gypsum Fall Festival.

Survivors include her two daughters, Sharon Bath of Gypsum, Kansas, Rita Bjork of Phoenix, Arizona; and son Robert Peterson, of Strong City, Kansas.

She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Tracy, Terry, Amy, Jason, Scott, Rachelle, Rhonda, Shannon, Rebekah, Leah, Anna, Sarah, Emma; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren

Pauline is preceded in death by her parents; husbands Leonard Peterson, Max Redden; brothers Harry Kogler, Kenneth Kogler; sister Olga Fritz; grandsons Brent Emery and Chad Merrill.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 28th at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home and Crematory in Salina with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 29th at Gypsum United Methodist Church in Gypsum, Kansas with Pastor Rebecca Stredney officiating.

Ruth Violet (Rogers) Barry, 99, of Linn, KS, died Thursday, October 20, 2022 at the Linn Community Nursing Home.

She was born March 9, 1923 at Alta Vista, KS to Charles and Zella Rogers. Ruth was the oldest of nine&nbsp;children. 

She graduated from Alta Vista High School. One of her most unique jobs after high school was driving for an army colonel at Fort Riley. She was also a teacher in a one room school house.

She met Wallace D. Barry in Manhattan and they were married October 4, 1944 in Alta Vista.&nbsp; They moved to Dodge City after Wallace graduated from Kansas State Agricultural College.&nbsp;

Ruth was an LPN and later became an RN. She was a very dedicated and hardworking nurse. She worked at St. Anthony Hospital in Dodge City for many years. After Wallace retired in 1990, they moved back to Manhattan where she also worked at Mercy Regional Hospital.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters and five brothers, her husband Wallace, sons Loren Patrick, Charles Joseph, Thomas “Tommy” Joseph and son-in-law, Robert Wolfe.

Ruth had a very strong Catholic faith and was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

 She is survived by her son Dale (Gloria) of El Paso, TX, daughters Phyllis Wolfe of Dodge City and Marilyn (Jim) Pachta of Belleville, KS. Ruth had nine grandchildren: Jennifer (Paul) Dowling, Maria (Rusty) Hamilton, Gina Redburn, Tiffany (Bill) Carr, Michael Wolfe, Chris (Ella) Pachta, Matthew (Nicole Delimont) Pachta, Andrew (Dixie) Pachta, and Melissa (Levi) Ohlde.

Ruth was also a very proud great-grandmother to Adam Carr, Scout Hamilton, Paul Pachta, Michael Pachta, Jacob Pachta, David Pachta, Catharine Pachta, Mark Pachta, Kinsey Pachta, and Lucy Ohlde.

Vigil/Rosary service will be held 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, in Belleville, KS.&nbsp;

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, Belleville, KS.

Interment will be made at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan, KS.

Morris "MOE" Eugene Mills passed away Saturday October 22, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas surrounded by his family. Morris was born in Russell, Kansas on February 12, 1952, the son of Mildred (McCord) Mills and Melvin Mills.

Morris graduated from Russell High School in 1970 and attended Salina Area Vocational Technical College for auto body repair.

Morris met the love of his life while in college and was united in marriage to Marsha Titus eight months later on July 31 st , 1971, and were able to share 51 loving years together.&nbsp;Morris and Marsha established their home in McPherson, Kansas.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, McPherson, where he served as an elder.

Morris worked as a carpenter building homes for Harold Schlender. He then worked at Turtle Top, where he painted fancy designs for van conversions. He later became ASE certified in mechanics. Morris brought his dream of business ownership to reality and SureStart Automotive was built at 2150 E. 1st Street in McPherson. He then transitioned to fabricating and designing airplane tanker trucks for Integrity Refuelers. With the devastation of 9/11 the, airplane industry slowed, and Morris found himself at age 50 starting over. Morris knew that he wanted to continue to serve his community and support his family. It was then decided he would reopen his mechanics shop with a revamped name of Moe’s Muffler and Brake. He was given the opportunity to sell his business and spend his days on the golf course where he served as golf course superintendent at Rolling Acres Golf Club until 2021 when he officially retired.

Morris and Marsha owned several homes throughout the years, in 1997 they built their dream home right next to Rolling Acres where he could&nbsp; ride his golf cart across the yard to enjoy his retirement days with Marsha and Callie, their beloved dog.

Moe enjoyed bowling, restoring antique vehicles, woodworking projects and golf, spending every free moment he had on the golf course, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Morris and Marsha had three beautiful daughters Teresa Bonham (Tim) of&nbsp;Louisburg, Kansas, Tamara Wilson (Shawn) of Lyons, Kansas, Tonya Mills (Derric Thompson), of Salina, Kansas; grandchildren Kylee Webb, Jacob Bonham, Gabriel Bonham, Kynlee Bonham, Stripes Wilson, Shane Wilson, Skylar Mills, Stasia Bard, Shado Bard, Shaedyn Maley, Shawntay Crawford, and Mariah Daniels; and six great-grandchildren.

Morris was preceded in death by his parents and brother Marvin Mills.

On June 10, 1967, Dianne was united in marriage to Bradley Lowell Surface in Garnett. He preceded her in death in 2006.

On July 5, 2008, Dianne was united in marriage to James Wesley Deckard. He survives.

Dianne loved quiltmaking, sewing, spending time with family and her two loving dogs.

Other survivors include her two sons, Michael Surface and wife, Wendy (Swisher), of Topeka, KS and Greg Surface and wife, Victoria (Goss), of Marquette, KS; two stepsons, Jeremy Deckard and wife, Amy (Hammerschmidt), of Topeka, KS and Chad Deckard and wife, Tere (Bertrand), of Assaria, KS; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one nephew, Brandon Watkins; and one sister, Linda Bowen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, a brother, Jim Watkins, and a nephew, Jeremy Watkins.

Roberta “Ruth” Clark was born on April 26, 1939, in Delavan, KS. She is the daughter of Harry and Francis (Filkin) Yakle.

 She graduated from Wilsey High School in 1956 and went on to study at Emporia State University. 

She was united in marriage to Robert Clark on June 01, 2002, in Herington, KS.

Ruth worked as a proofreader for the Herington Newspaper. She was also a paraprofessional in the Hope School District. Ruth was a very active and strong member in her church and was on the board of the Herington Senior Center for 20 years. In her free time, Ruth loved to cross stitch, and would custom make birthday cards for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Billy Dean Allred, age 73, of Concordia, Kansas, went to be with His Lord and Savior on Friday, October 21, 2022 at Cloud County Health Center in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born on February 5, 1949 in Dallas, Texas to Jesse &amp; Lou (Jenkins) Allred.

Billy grew up in the Dallas, Texas community and attended Seagoville High School.

Billy served in the United States Army from July 26, 1966 ~ July 24, 1972 during the Vietnam War.&nbsp; He enlisted in the Army Reserves upon returning home to the states.&nbsp; Billy was honorably discharged as a PFC E-5.

He married Patricia Anderson in Mesquite, Texas.&nbsp; They were united in marriage for 30 wonderful years.

He was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Scurry, TX.

He was an over-the-road freight relocation engineer driver for 40 years until he retired in January of 2010.

Billy enjoyed his retirement where he gained the hobby of woodworking.&nbsp; He loved making and personalizing canes, birdhouses, and tables.&nbsp; He also was a avid clock collector.&nbsp; Through life Billy enjoyed pranking his family and having fun joking around for everyone’s amusement.

He is survived by his wife Patricia Allred, Concordia, KS; brother Vernon Allred and (Sharon), Mesquite, TX; mother-in-law Janette Thorpe, Glasco, KS; sister-in-law Michell Thompson and (Chris), Ft. Worth, TX; daughter Camri Tidwell, Ft. Worth, TX; his three grandchildren, Isaiah, Genesiz, and Isaac; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Lou, sister Shirley Vaden, and brother Kenneth Allred.

It was Billy’s wishes to be cremated and the family will have a Celebration of Life service at the Victory Baptist Church in Scurry, Texas at a later time to be announced.

In his youth Carl attended school in Salina, Kansas and after moving to Clay Center he attended Clay Center Schools.

Carl was a cook in the cafeteria for Mount Joseph Senior Village for 20 years, serving great food for the residents.&nbsp; Carl also worked as a cook for Bobbie and Dots and the Thunderbird Motor Inn, both of Concordia, for many years.&nbsp;

He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.&nbsp; Most of all Carl enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be missed by many.
