Marvin J. Hamm, 86, Abilene, passed away Monday, March 13, 2023, at Village Manor in Abilene. The youngest of 12, Marvin was born December 30, 1936, in Hillsboro to Edward and Bertha (Hill) Hamm.

Marvin attended the Warren School until the eighth grade and was a 1955 graduate of Durham High School. 

He and Joyce Gill were united in marriage on August 2, 1959, and were married for 63 years. The couple purchased a farm near Wells where they farmed and ranched for many years until moving to Abilene in 2017. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Arthur, Elsie, Elma, Eddie, Theodore, Harry, Dorothy, Florence, Florine, Duane, and Delbert; and his granddaughter Kylie Hamm.

Survivors are his wife, Joyce; children Mike Hamm and his wife, Jody, Shelly Alderson and her husband, Darwin, and Tim Hamm and his wife, Anita. After Marvin’s brother, Harry, died at a young age in 1963, his two children, Brenda and Shane became a part of Marvin and Joyce’s family. Grandchildren include Kelsey Cathcart and her husband, Bryce, Austin Hamm and his wife, Hannah, Matthew Hamm and his fiancé, Jenn Shaw, Lindsey Hamm, Ashley Fields and her husband, Dustin, Tori Bowers and her husband, Matt, Taylor Lokken and her husband, Cody, Turner Alderson and her fiancé, Damian Hartman, Cody Hamm and his wife, Canyon, Ty Hamm and his wife, Noell, and Lane Hamm and his wife, Trisha, and 13 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Marvin’s life including a BBQ meal and storytelling will be on Saturday, April 1 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Wells Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wells Community Center or the Ottawa County Fair Association and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
