When a warning is issued, KDHE recommends the following precautions be taken:

●Lake water is not safe to drink for pets or livestock.

●Lake water, regardless of blue-green algae status, should never be consumed by humans.

●Fish may be eaten if they are rinsed with clean water and only the fillet portion is consumed, while all other parts are discarded.

●If lake water contacts skin, wash with clean water as soon as possible.

 ●Avoid areas of visible algae accumulation.

A watch means that blue-green algae have been detected and a harmful algal bloom is present or likely to develop. People are encouraged to avoid areas of algae accumulation and keep pets and livestock away from the water.

During the watch status, KDHE recommends the following precautions be taken:

●Signage will be posted at all public access locations.

●Water may be unsafe for humans/animals.

●Avoid areas of algae accumulation and do not let people/pets eat dried algae or drink contaminated water.

●Swimming, wading, skiing and jet skiing are discouraged near visible blooms.

●Boating and fishing are safe. However, inhalation of the spray may affect some individuals. Avoid direct contact with water, and wash with clean water after any contact.

Local, area lakes, pond under blue-green algae advisories

The Kansas Independent College Foundation (KICF) announced its annual Maud Wyatt Scholarship recipients earlier this week. Kansas Wesleyan’s Emily Monson was one of the 20 students honored.

“I am so thankful to have received this scholarship,” said Monson. “Going to Kansas Wesleyan has taught me so much, and I am looking forward to taking the knowledge I’ve gained here into my future career as a graphic designer. I couldn’t have made it this far without the support from our faculty and staff here at KWU.”&nbsp;

Monson, Cheney, a rising senior, is among the most active students at KWU. She is a standout on the volleyball team, where she earned American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region honors this past season. She was also named the KCAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Off the court, she holds a 4.0 GPA in graphic design. 2021-22 will be her second straight year as the treasurer of the Student Government Association. Monson is also a member of the DECA program, where she was a national finalist this past year. Finally, she is also involved in Alpha Chi, the mentor program, the business student advisory board, and she will serve as an RA this year as well.

KICF awards up to 20 individual scholarships, one for a student at each member institution.&nbsp;&nbsp;The recipients are all full-time, degree-seeking students on the cusp of graduation who have demonstrated excellence in academics, character and integrity, and a commitment to the value of a private college education in Kansas. These students lifted the spirit of their respective communities while also maintaining GPAs of 3.5 or above.

The scholarship was established in 1995 through the generosity of Maud Wyatt, whose bequest has supported the work of KICF and its institutions since 1961.&nbsp;

 There is still some uncertainty on where the greatest coverage of storms will be, but at this point it appears that northern Kansas will be the primary focus for severe weather. That said, there is still some potential further south across parts of southern Kansas.

Police are investigating the theft of a scooter from a Salina residence.

Ronald Baltzell, 61, of Salina, told police that his light green 2014 Bronc Rally 49 scooter had been stolen from where it was parked on his patio in the 1400 block of E. Iron Avenue, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning. The scooter had a Kansas license plate of 01CTT.

Baltzell, who still has the key to the scooter, recently notice it was missing. He had been away and had last seen the scooter in April, Forrester said.

A rural Saline County man is out $6,200 after being scammed via telephone.

Saline County Undersheriff Brent Melander said this morning that on Tuesday, a 59-year-old resident of northeastern Saline County received a phone call from someone claiming to be the "chief council" of the Social Security office. The caller told the man that law enforcement had located a vehicle in Texas that had blood all over it and the man's Social Security card inside. Additionally, there was a warrant for the man's arrest. The call came from a 443 area code.

The caller told the man that if he provided the numbers to $6,200 worth of gift cards, the caller could get the warrant dismissed, Melander said. The man was told that he needed to stay on the phone with the caller while he purchased the gift cards and that he would need to provide the gift card numbers as he bought the cards.

Melander said the man purchased the following.

$2,000 worth of gift cards from Sam's Club

$1,200 worth of gift cards from Apple iTunes

$1,000 worth of gift cards from Go Play Golf

Overnight, the man realized that he probably was scammed, so he called back and talked to the same person who called the first time. That person told the man that he could issue a refund, but would need $1,000 to start the refund process, Melander said. Once additional money was required, the Saline County man hung up.

Melander said there was little the sheriff's office could do in this case or cases like it. He offered a reminder that warrants cannot be taken care of over the phone. Additionally, he said that government entities do not take payments via gift cards.

●Assist with startup, changeovers, and line shut down of automated and manual equipment throughout the production facility.

●Performs Housekeeping activities as per master sanitation schedule, and conducts/participates in area housekeeping assessments as required to meet all GMP's, FDA and AIB requirements.

●Responsible to support line operations during lunches, breaks and coverage for open positions.

●Responsible for finished goods preparation and inspection, including top cap placement, inspection check list, legible date codes, and quality of bag seals.

●Production line waste removal and disposal according to Standard Operating Procedures.

●Responsible for cleaning and sanitation of equipment throughout the production areas during operation. Trained in LOTO, chemical handling, PPE, etc.

●Understand and comply with Hill's policies, safety standards, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Food Safety. Identify and report Food safety issues to management.

●Responsible for managing Dum back/Regrind/Reblend product movement.

●Supports packaging lines with staging of resources needed based on the production schedule including hand stacking of all bag sizes.

●Attends the Shift Transition Meeting to understand current shift production schedule.

●Contribution of additional work hours when needed to meet business demands.

●High school diploma or equivalent.. Must be able to work any shift schedule, including nights and weekends.

●Ability to bend, climb, and work in confined spaces, and work in hazardous condition spaces for up to twelve hours per day.

●Ability to push totes containing product up to 750 lbs.

●Ability to work in extreme weather conditions with temperature ranges from cold to hot and humid.

●Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, repeatedly.
