Salina Downtown, Inc. is excited to host its Annual SaWINEa Wine Walk this Saturday, Oct. 21, featuring local Kansas wineries and breweries. 

From 4:00-8:00 p.m., The SaWINEa Downtown Wine Walk invites you to explore the many flavors of five Kansas wineries (and three local breweries) as you experience the friendly ambience that our downtown boutiques and shops have to offer.

The Blades will grace us with their musical talent at Campbell Plaza.

April Rickman, event planner for Salina Downtown Inc. said she is excited to reintroduce this event to the Salina community.&nbsp;

“I am elated to be able to continue to give new life to this event for Salina Downtown. We (Salina Downtown Inc.) are committed to creating and bringing unique, engaging, and fun programming to Downtown Salina,” Rickman said.&nbsp;

VIP tickets will be $60 and come with a commemorative stainless steel wine tumbler, a souvenir wine cork stopper, a bottle opener, early entry to the walk, as well as other perks including a VIP only happy hour at Prickly Pear with a complementary drink and a special drink at The Cellar Wine &amp; Whiskey Bar, which is NEW in downtown since the 2022 Wine Walk. 

General Admission tickets will be $35 and will come with a wine tasting cup. A limited number of tickets are available. Tickets are sold online at <a href="https://www.salinadowntown.org/events-info">https://www.salinadowntown.org/events-info</a>

Each participant will plan their downtown adventure, stopping at participating downtown businesses while tasting a “sampling” of Kansas wines and brews. 

There will also be mocktail and snack stops posted along the route to cleanse your palate!

SaWINEa Downtown Wine Walk is this Saturday

On Tuesday, September 20, 2023, at 9:18 p.m. Salina Police Officers were dispatched to the 300 block of North Penn Avebue, Salina, regarding an armed robbery. 

Three victims inside the home reported two subjects entered the back door unannounced and demanded money. One of the suspects threatened the victims with a long gun, while the second suspect was in possession of a knife.

While trying to disarm the suspects, one of the victims was stabbed with the knife. The suspects fled the area prior to police arrival.

A Saline County District Court arrest warrant has been issued in this case for 41-year-old Phyroom “Thaloe” Ketkan of Salina. Salina Police are looking for information on his whereabouts as well any information on the second suspect involved.

Join K-State Research &amp; Extension and Kansas Wesleyan University&nbsp;Community Resilience Hub&nbsp;for an opportunity to share, listen, and learn about what is happening in our community around local food systems. We want to hear from you about what is working well and what challenges our community is facing related to local foods. This event will also provide the opportunity to connect with others in our area that are interested in local foods and learn about resources available to help make progress.

The goal of the roundtable is to help K-State Research &amp; Extension staff better understand the great work that has already been done related to local foods, areas where we are struggling to make progress, and what resources are needed to improve our local food system. Salina Area United Way is pleased to announce that the organization has received a substantial donation of $200,000 from the Earl Bane Foundation to the Early Childcare Initiative Fund. Their donation will help create huge strides in the Childcare Initiative by sponsoring 33 local childcare teachers to ensure that they earn a living wage, helping to keep our centers fully staffed, which will in return open more childcare slots in the community.

This donation is another crucial step towards making strong and lasting steps in combating childcare issues and shortages due to workforce in Saline County. The Earl Bane Foundation seeks opportunities to award grants to organizations that will improve Saline County and the surrounding area, providing a better place for residents to live, work and play.

“With this donation, the Foundation continues the legacy of Earl Bane in supporting youth and families in Saline County,” says Robert Buster, President of the Earl Bane Foundation.

In April, Salina Area United Way announced the start and opening of the Early Childcare Initiative Fund at their organization. Through this fund, local centers will be able to apply on an annual basis for wage supplement grants, to bring assistant teachers to $15/hr. and lead teachers to $18/hr. Currently nearly all childcare centers in Saline County, except for one, are paying $4 less than the wages listed above.

“The Earl Band Foundation Board of Directors sees the need for quality childcare teachers,” says Claire Ludes, Executive Director of Salina Area United Way. “We can’t begin to thank them enough for this substantial donation that is changing the lives of children and teachers. The need for living wages and childcare slots go hand-in-hand, and we will keep chipping away until we have both for Saline County.”

Saline County Jail Activity, Oct. 20

Last week, a bipartisan commission of former state lawmakers finished working on and recommended a solution to a long-standing problem: Kansas’s terrible legislative pay scale.

Currently our state legislature, which is officially supposed to meet for only about 90 days—but which actually often involves much more work than that, frequently spread throughout the whole year—pays its members a base salary of only $27,000. While the coverage of per diem expenses does allow for some variability, still, when all the costs of traveling and housing are added up, Kansas lawmakers are some of the worst paid in the whole country.

The former legislators who met to find a solution to this issue were fully aware of the problem. Some had stories of juggling multiple temp jobs to make ends meet when not in session, while others noted how the current system unintentionally biases the legislature, often limiting those who aspire to run for office to those who can afford the pay cut or already have job security, meaning that retired or independently wealthy candidates predominate. And don’t forget the temptation which poorly paid politicians face when well-financed special interests come calling!

The recommendation of the commission to increase the base salary of legislators to $43,000, with a built-in provision for annual salary adjustments, should be applauded and implemented immediately. More than that, it should lead us to reflect upon our expectations for those elected to office, and whether they’re worth paying for.

Across the United States, the notion of a “citizen legislature” has always had a strong hold. Rooted in small-r republican, localist, and agrarian convictions, it is the idea that those who represent voters should be discouraged from developing any serious involvement with their civic role, and should treat government work as a temporary act of public service instead.

Whatever the value of that vision, its perpetuation despite massive changes in economics, technology, and urbanization over the past century and half is a hindrance to thinking clearly about the political choices which confront voters, where political experience, policy knowledge, and government training needs to be balanced with maintaining local, democratic connections.

Many states recognize this, at least when it comes to matters of compensation. Only 14 states (Kansas included) hold to a genuinely “part-time” model in how they define legislative duties; even states with legislatures that meet only once every two years tend to have hybrid systems, recognizing that legislators put in significant hours and deserve to be paid accordingly.

That those we elect need to stay close to and be responsive to those who elect them is a central feature of democratic accountability. But there are ways of thinking about accountability which still acknowledge the specialized skills that good public servants develop, and the steep learning curve they go through to get there. Imagining politics as a permanent entry-level job, idealizing the inexperienced as somehow more “authentic,” is the sort of delusion which may bring voters to wrongly see practical legislative work as an annoying distraction, unworthy of support (even while continuing to unreflectively re-elect incumbents whose name or party or face they trust).

In the end, the truth is that politicians do real, complicated work, and while in office ought to be regarded as engaged in a full-time profession. More realism in how we view our representatives (and how we pay them) would, perhaps, enable us to better assess their performance—and would likely provide us with more diverse alternatives to choose from when elections roll around.

Imagining politics as a permanent entry-level job, idealizing the inexperienced as somehow more “authentic,” is the sort of delusion which may bring voters to wrongly see practical legislative work as an annoying distraction, unworthy of support (even while continuing to unreflectively re-elect incumbents whose name or party or face they trust).In the end, the truth is that politicians do real, complicated work, and while in office ought to be regarded as engaged in a full-time profession. More realism in how we view our representatives (and how we pay them) would, perhaps, enable us to better assess their performance—and would likely provide us with more diverse alternatives to choose from when elections roll around.

INSIGHT: Politics is a Profession Worth Paying For

Seven members of the Central Kansas District (CKD) 4-H Shooting Sports program recently traveled to Sedgwick and Augusta to compete at the Kansas 4-H State Shotgun Match on October 14 and 15. To participate at the state level, youth must have shot an eligible score at one of several regional qualifiers earlier in the summer.

In total, there were over 200 4-H’ers from 31 different local Extension units. Those making the trip from CKD were Lane and Gauge Fritz of Gypsum, Coy Malmberg, Callan Rensink and Charlie Klein from Minneapolis, and Clayton Shamburg and Mayson Nagel of Bennington. Klein and Lane Fritz shot in the Senior Age Division with all others entered in the Junior Division.

The district was showcased in several classes including Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays. Combined scores from all three classes made up the Aggregate Score.

Despite high winds and chilly temperatures, three local youth brought home awards from the weekend. In the Junior Division, CKD had the top two trap shooters in the state with Coy Malmberg being named State Champion and Gauge Fritz as Runner-Up. Malmberg also placed eight in Sporting Clays and was 11th Overall in the Aggregate. For the Seniors, Lane Fritz placed fifth in trap.

Now that the fall season is complete, CKD 4-H members will spend the winter practicing BB gun and air rifle in hopes of qualifying for state in April. Moreover, they will be looking to repeat as a Kansas team at the 2024 Daisy National BB Gun Championship Match in Rogers, Arkansas next summer.

Beginning Monday, October 23 Saline County will begin an asphalt overlay project on Hugh Street in the City of Kipp.&nbsp;

The project will extend from Schilling Road north to Great Plains Manufacturing.&nbsp;Construction is anticipated to last 1 week.&nbsp;

Motorists are advised to be careful and patient when accessing the work area as there are no alternate routes.&nbsp;

Local&nbsp;and emergency traffic will be provided&nbsp;access to private property.

Driving around road closure barricades is not just unlawful but extremely unsafe. For your safety and the safety of the construction workers, please obey all traffic signs.

Hugh Street in Kipp closed beginning Oct. 23

A Saline County Sheriff's Deputy was involved in a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon, according to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan.&nbsp;

Soldan told Salina Post the accident, which involved a Saline County Sheriff's Office vehicle, occurred at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and State Street at approximately 2 p.m.&nbsp;

"The deputy had minor injuries and the other driver was transported to the hospital [SRHC]," Soldan said. "Both vehicles were disabled."

Soldan said the accident is being investigated by Kansas Highway Patrol.

Saline County Sheriff's deputy involved in two-vehicle accident

At this week's Tuesday meeting, the Saline County Commission acted on three projects, including new vehicles for the Sheriff's Department, an employment amendment for the county administrator position and a joint project by the city and county.

Saline County District 5 Commissioner Joe Hay was absent.

The meeting began with a public comment from Mentor resident Danette Toone in regard to a possible battery storage facility in Saline County.&nbsp;

The project, if approved,&nbsp; would involve a multi-million dollar battery energy storage system for the community of Mentor.

Toone expressed her concern for the project, stating her experience from a previous career as an economic developer.&nbsp;

“The reason that economic developers go after economic development projects generally is because of the stable jobs that they provide to the community members,” Toone said. “This project will have one job.”

Another concern she expressed was the lack of ordinances to manage new types of technologies and facilities in the community and urged the commission to write and pass proper procedures and permitting guidelines before a project like this is approved

City/County joint project to assess downtown properties

The joint project between the city and county has an upfront cost for the county at almost $34,000, with the hire of Shockey Consulting on the county staff's recommendation.

"We have had quite a bit of discussion this year about facilities and our need for moving some folks around," said county administrator Phillip Smith-Hanes. "And improving some spaces for various county departments."

The project would study the city and county's downtown facilities to find the best use for its departments and staff in the future.

Smith-Hanes told the commission that due to his position's current workload, the county would need to hire assistance to help find a future consulting group.

Shockey Consulting's proposal would work alongside the city by examining government-owned properties, gathering that information and preparing it for a future consulting group to create a study.

Usually, Smith-Hanes or deputy county administrator Hannah Bett would participate in this project themselves, but without assistance from a consulting group, it would move the project to 2024.

"We just simply don't have time right at the moment," Smith-Hanes said.

The commission moved and voted to hire Shockey Consulting from Overland Park for $33,992 to gather data on the county's behalf for the project. The motion passed three to one, with District 3 Commissioner Rodger Sparks voting as opposed.&nbsp;

Smith-Hanes said the money used for the consulting fees would come from the more than $2 million Capital Improvements Program, or CIP, fund.

County Administrator position salary increase

At the meeting, the commission voted to increase the county administrator's base salary by $10,000, totaling more than $160,000.

The amendment to the position would also increase the allowed total of accrued vacation time from just 50 hours to 192 hours.

"He has led us through the COVID years and all the distribution of the ARPA funds and in addition to bringing on many, many, many different plans and ideas and thoughts," said County Commission chair Robert Vidricksen. "I think this will be a well-spent $10,000 and well-earned expenditure for the county."

The commission unanimously agreed to increase the salary, adjusting it for 2024.

The Saline County Sheriff's Department will get four new vehicles in 2024 — trading in four SUV police vehicles to purchase the new ones for $170,153.65.

According to Sheriff’s Department operations captain Jim Hughes, vehicle payment would come from the department’s almost $240,000 EIP fund.

The commission approved the new vehicle purchases, including police package equipment for each.

Agreement for contractual work for the new jail.

Electrical work at the Saline County’s Livestock and Expo Center barns.

Saline Co. Commission approves raise for County Administrator

TOPEKA —Preliminary estimates reported by the Labor Market Information Services (LMIS) division of the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) show a&nbsp;<a href="https://klic.dol.ks.gov/admin/gsipub/htmlarea/uploads/Press%20Release/LR%20Sep2023%20SA%20Rate%20Chart%20File.pdf">seasonally adjusted unemployment rate</a>&nbsp;of 2.8% in September. This is an increase from 2.7% in August and a decrease from 2.9% in September 2022.

Seasonally adjusted job estimates for Kansas indicate total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 4,200 from August. Total nonfarm includes private sector and government employers.&nbsp;<a href="https://klic.dol.ks.gov/admin/gsipub/htmlarea/uploads/Press%20Release/LR%20Sep2023%20SA%20PrivateEmpl%20Chart%20File.pdf">Private sector jobs</a>&nbsp;increased by 4,000 over the month, while government increased by 200.

The unemployment rate in Salina County is down from 2.9 percent in August to 2.4 percent in September. The state reported similar numbers&nbsp; &nbsp;across the region. The rate in Dickinson County is also now below 3 percent.

Salina Public Library wasn't the first to auction a Sandzén painting in Central Kansas — multiple school districts did it before them.

The Salina Public Library owned two Birger Sandzén paintings for most of the last century, but on Saturday, they auctioned them to private sellers through the auctioneer Dirk Soulis.

The paintings included two of Sandzén's earlier works, "Scene Along the Smoky," 1921, and "Golden Aspens," 1929.

According to SPL head of marketing Katie Zey, the library received both paintings through donations. The Salina Art Association donated "Golden Aspens" to the library in 1963 when they dispanded, and a community-led fundraiser helped land "Scene Along the Smoky" in the library's halls in 1926.

The facilitator of the fundraiser, J. L. Brady, editor of the Salina Daily Union in the 1920s, gained community support to purchase the painting over time, with a past library board member finishing the payments on July 8, 1926.

SPL was not the first nor the last to acquire a collection of Sandzén paintings — according to Ron Michael, the Birger Sandzén Memorial Gallery director in Lindsborg, multiple schools picked up Sandzén's work early in the 19th century.

"The first major exhibition was at the McPherson public schools in 1911," Michael said. "That kind of precipitated a lot more exhibitions, and hence, starting art collections throughout the state."

Two examples include Hoisington Public Schools USD 431 and Lyons Public Schools USD 405.

According to Hoisington USD 431 superintendent Patrick Crowdis, the school district acquired some of Sandzén's in the late 1950s or early 1960s donated to the school by the classes of 1946 and 1953.

As the years went on, the paintings sat in the well-lit district office of USD 431, and over time, the district began to question if keeping the illustrations would be best for the works of fine art.

The district appraised the three works of Sandzén's in 2007 and auctioned them in 2010 for more than $170,000. The school district ordered replicas of the auctioned paintings, and the proceeds then went to fund student scholarships.

"At least 26 scholarships that we've given out since then, so I mean, I feel like it was a worthy cause," Crowdis said. "We still display the replicas of the paintings that we had, and I feel like the paintings can be better-taken care of by whomever ended up purchasing them."

Lyons USD 405 sold one Sandzén painting in their collection in 2016, "Between Showers in Lindsborg," 1935, accruing more than $60,000 to begin an endowment scholarship for art students.

"The school board thought, 'Hey, we can have what appears to be an original Sandzén hanging up in our office, but at the same time, we could have an endowed scholarship fund that will last forever,'" said Lyons USD 405 superintendent Bill Day. "So now that's a perpetual scholarship for up to two graduates each year going into some art field, and we and the art field can be music, music, education, graphic arts, graphic design."

Other schools in central Kansas have sold Sandzén paintings in the last two decades to fund various scholarships and put the fine art pieces into better-equipped hands.

SPL's decision to sell the paintings mirrored these fellow public entities, aiming to find better care for the pieces alongside funding some possible future projects.

"Our board felt as though we were not equipped to properly care for and house the Sandzén paintings," Zey said. "The decision was made with what they felt was best for both the paintings and the library." 

Zey said that until the library secures the funds from the auction, the board will not decide how to utilize the cash for future projects.

The Salina Public Library&nbsp;board holds open meetings on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 a.m. in the Prescott Room. Zey said the board welcomes public involvement in the library's actions.

"So now that's a perpetual scholarship for up to two graduates each year going into some art field, and we and the art field can be music, music, education, graphic arts, graphic design."Other schools in central Kansas have sold Sandzén paintings in the last two decades to fund various scholarships and put the fine art pieces into better-equipped hands.SPL's decision to sell the paintings mirrored these fellow public entities, aiming to find better care for the pieces alongside funding some possible future projects."Our board felt as though we were not equipped to properly care for and house the Sandzén paintings," Zey said. "The decision was made with what they felt was best for both the paintings and the library." Zey said that until the library secures the funds from the auction, the board will not decide how to utilize the cash for future projects.The Salina Public Library&nbsp;board holds open meetings on the third Tuesday of each month at 7 a.m. in the Prescott Room. Zey said the board welcomes public involvement in the library's actions.

Sandzén paintings across Kansas — SPL was not first to sell famous works of art

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Shawn Steward with AAA Kansas is continuing to see prices go in a downward direction for drivers.

"The downward trend at the pumps has continued," Steward said Thursday. "We're down to $3.39 a gallon on average in Kansas. That's down eight cents in the past week. I think we were down eight cents the previous week. We're looking at a reduction of about 35 cents a gallon on average in Kansas over the last month."

Prices are a little inconsistent across central Kansas.

"It's a seasonal trend that we see in most years," Steward said. "We start to see gas prices fall in the fall and winter as temperatures drop. It's interesting that in the last few weeks, we haven't really seen a reduction in gas demand, but we have seen oil prices being fairly stable."

More than half of the price of a gallon of gas at the pump has its foundation from the price of the crude oil from which it is refined.

"The U.S. has lifted some oil sanctions on Venezuela, which could lead to a 200,000 barrel per day increase in U.S. exports from that country," Steward said. "That would certainly help our supply."

Steward said if this trend continues, we could see gas as low as $3 a gallon, depending on how winter weather slows demand.

Seasonal slide continues at pumps

Nineteen students are taking to the skies with the brand-new South Middle School Drone Club. Kyle Krohmer, a science teacher, leads the club with the help of Jeffrey Vogt, the social studies teacher, and Becky Holliday, a roving teacher. 

The students will learn about drones, fixing them, flying them and marketing them. 

“The careers associated with this are growing exponentially," Krohmer said. Students build technical skills and problem-solving abilities - all while having fun.

Students meet once a week to practice using a simulator and then take turns piloting the drone around the classroom. Maintaining drone control and being aware of the battery levels are critical to a pilot’s success. 

The club is sponsored through K-State’s Uncrewed Aircraft Systems department in conjunction with the Drones in Schools Program. Drones in Schools is a national program that hosts competitions and provides supplies and a curriculum covering everything from human flight's history to future drone usage.

Providing hands-on opportunities to make STEM fun and engaging, Drone Club is an excellent addition to the extracurricular activities at Salina Public Schools.

Gridiron Glory Week 6: Congratulations Marc Allen!

At its Monday meeting, The Salina City Commission voted to move forward with demolishing the Carver Pool/ Oakdale ice skating rink.

City commissioners voted unanimously, 5-0, to accept the more than $80,000 bid from Diehl Enterprises.

Jeff Hammond, director of Salina Parks and Recreation gave commissioners background information on how the area has been used in the past.&nbsp;

"In 1925 the city allocated $15,000 for the construction of a municipal pool in Oakdale park," Hammond said. "The pool was completed in 1926. It is worth noting that Oakdale Pool did not have a chlorination system. The water had to be emptied and refilled weekly."

In 1956 The city authorized the construction of a new pool — at Kenwood Park. Oakdale Pond also referred to as Carver Pool, was opened in 1948 as a Blacks-only public swimming pool.

&nbsp;In the 2000s the partially filled in Oakdale Pond was used as an ice skating rink.&nbsp;

"In 2012, an art project was undertaken with painting for the Smoky Hil River Festival, which was done by the site of Heart Center, per conversations with city staff, and arts and humanities staff. The artwork was never meant to be preserved and it's decommissioning is not necessary."

"We [Parks and Rec.] received three quotes for the Oakdale ice skating rink demolition," Hammond said. "Diehl Construction had the lowest bid at a cost of $77,750."

Hammond explained that the project also includes 5% contingency fee of $3,887.50, making the total project cost $81,637.50.

Hammond noted that the contingency fee was to account for any possible building complications or unforeseen issues related to the demolition.&nbsp;

The project will require roughly 5,000 tons of backfill soil. According to Hammond, the soil will be compacted and graded to match the park surroundings.

"The project involves the removal of approximately 35,000 square feet of concrete slabs and sidewalks," Hammond said. "We intend on going three feet below ground level for the excavation of the current ice skating rink."

Hammond said funding for the project will be financed from the parks improvement fund which is generated from sales tax.

After Hammond concluded his opening remarks, Commissioner Bill Longbine asked him what the space would look like after the demolition is completed.&nbsp;

"It's just going to be a green space?" Longbine asked.&nbsp;

Hammond confirmed that would be the case. City Manager Mike Schrage provided context for possible future uses of the space.&nbsp;

&nbsp;"As open space alone, I think it is an opportunity for the River Festival and arts and humanities to use that space differently," Schrage said. "Then long term we can have some master planning conversations about Oakdale Park in general. That's all something to be addressed in the future."

"I guess I thought it would be more space for more cars at the car show," Longbine said.&nbsp;

I joined the Navy and served sixteen years at sea on five ships deploying nine times as well as being stationed overseas for thirteen years.&nbsp; I worked in Law Enforcement, Naval Security Forces, and Weapons Systems ultimately serving in senior Departmental and Command Leadership roles.&nbsp; Shortly after retirement, I returned to Salina to attend Kansas State Polytechnic’s Professional Pilot and UAS Engineering and Technology programs.As a school board member, what specific initiatives or policies would you prioritize in order to improve educational outcomes and support the overall well-being of public school students in our community? I believe we should prioritize combatting the growing absenteeism problem that has been trending in recent years by implementing some policy changes that support increased attendance.&nbsp; Secondly, I believe we need to create initiatives that will improve our academic scores and make USD 305 a top performer statewide, raising the standards, which will draw the highest quality teachers to the district.&nbsp; Next, I believe that it is imperative that we reduce the amount of distractions that have invaded our schools so that we can get back to focusing on the fundamentals that traditionally have been the foundation of education.&nbsp; We need to assess what justly serves the students and adheres to established guidelines and community values to achieve the desired outcomes we seek.In recent years many books have been removed from the shelves of public libraries due to their alleged inappropriate content. As a school board member where do you stand on this issue?I believe that the library curatorship is where the answer to this question lies.&nbsp; The public and school libraries need to be curated as such that they provide access to materials and resources that have academic value and adhere to moral and ethical standards.&nbsp; If the books or materials are of questionable nature or content, then they likely do not serve the students properly in the school or public environment, making it inappropriate and unethical curatorship.&nbsp; We should not provide minors access to these books and materials if they are inappropriate and unnecessary in the school or academic environment. &nbsp;&nbsp;Parental engagement and community involvement are crucial for the success of any school district. What strategies would you implement to increase collaboration between parents, citizens, and educators?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I agree that parental engagement and community involvement are crucial for the school district’s success, and I think a good way to help bring everyone together is by ensuring regular Parent Teacher Conferences, Open Houses, and Forums to suit the various levels of involvement.&nbsp; We need to ensure that the conversations go both ways and that adequate feedback is provided to assist in healthy communication.&nbsp; One of the biggest gripes that I have heard in recent years is the lack of healthy productive conversation that leads to the disenfranchisement of parents.&nbsp; It’s imperative that School Boards and School Faculty get this right because everyone is paying for it, but the kids are the ones who lose the most.Please explain why you are running for School Board:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; I’m running for School Board to contribute what I can to my community and our future.&nbsp; I am a product of this school district and have benefitted from many of the programs that it has provided such as Project Excel and Remedial Studies.&nbsp; I have a plethora of life experiences and extensive leadership and management skills that can be applied to help provide the necessary outlook and oversight to achieve mission success.&nbsp; Solid education will lead to a promising future.
