A Salina businessman who owns a local construction company, deceived two victims to send money by promising to complete renovations to their home, which never even started.

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) the first incident occurred back in August, where the victim got in contact with Warren Huffman (47) who is the proprietor <a href="https://www.bbb.org/us/ks/salina/profile/construction/wfo-construction-0714-300204256">WFO Construction</a>&nbsp;to renovate their home. A check of $4,750 was given to Huffman that same month, but no construction to the home was ever started since then.

The victim then called SPD on Christmas Eve and reported the issue. Officers then came in contact with Huffman, but he denied the accusation.

However, Huffman was arrested and booked into the Saline County Jail for probable cause and requested charge of Theft by Deception.

Huffman was then released on bond the following day.

SPD then received a report from a separate individual on December 26, who indicated Huffman had committed the same crime back on June.

This time, the victim sent a check of $5,786 for renovation of their home.

Huffman was not re-arrested, but SPD referred this incident to the Saline County District Court, since he already has a pending court case regarding the first report.

Saline County Jail Bookings, December 29

SEDGWICK COUNTY— Law enforement are investigating a deadly home invasion and shooting in Wichita.

Just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a home&nbsp;in the 100 block of North Ash in Wichita, according to a media release. When officers arrived, they found a 52-year-old man and 67-year-old man inside the home with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital, the 52-year-old was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The 67-year-old remained in critical but stable condition late Sunday.

Police arrested a neighbor identified in booking records as 54-year-old Matthew D. Morgan. An unknown suspect fled the residence on foot. The motive for the home invasion remains under investigation.

Morgan was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on requested charges of second-degree reckless murder.

Just before 6a.m. Christmas morning., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a man screaming and banging on the front door of a residence, another nearby residence reported the same man entering their home without their authorization, according to Sheriff Tim Morse.

Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene at 15698 SE Indian Valley Lane and subsequently took the man into custody. The man was identified as Michael Eugene Bennet, 53, of Topeka.&nbsp; Bennett was booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of possession of methamphetamine, criminal use of weapons, criminal carrying of weapons and possession of drug paraphernalia.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A man allegedly living illegally in Kansas is now going to prison for a deadly fight that left a man dead.

Earlier this month, Judge Chrystal Krier sentenced 23-year-old Armando Y. Martinez-Rodriguez to 34 months in prison and 24-months of post release supervision in the death of&nbsp; left 30-year-old Marco Gonzales-Arias, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Just after midnight October 12, 2024, police responded to the Emery Gardens apartment complex in the the 4200 block of S. Hydraulic in Wichita, according to a media release.

First responders found&nbsp; Gonzales-Arias suffering from a gunshot wound. EMS transported him to a local hospital and he was pronounced deceased.&nbsp;

Martinez suffered stab wound and fled the scene. Police located him, took him to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuried and booked him into the Sedgwick County Jail where he was listed as a hold for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Martinez is also required to register as a violent offender for 15 years.

Earlier this month, police issued an arrest warrant and are asked the public for help to locate shooting suspect 25-year-old Levi Garwood, according to a statement from Winfield Police. The alleged crime occurred on November 22 near Main Street in Winfield. First responders found a man with a gunshot wound to the chest. EMS transported the victim to a local hospital and later to a hospital in Wichita.

Detectives conducted witness interviews and reviewed audio and video evidence before seeking a warrant through the Cowley County District Court. Just after 4:30p.m.&nbsp; December 23, Garwood was booked into the Cowley County jail, according to online jail records. He is being held&nbsp; on a $500,000 bomd on requested charges of attempted second-degree murder.&nbsp; Police have not released details of the arrest.

On November 7, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of criminal damage and burglary to a vehicle in the City of Delia, according to Sheriff Tim Morse. During the course of the investigation a suspect was identified as Shaun Justin Barber, 41, of Delia.&nbsp; Deputies developed probable cause to search a residence and received a search warrant for 203 East Street in Delia where the suspect was believed to be staying. 

Deputies seized illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia from the residence.&nbsp; The suspect was not present and a warrant was issued for his arrest.&nbsp; On December 22, 2025, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office located Barber and arrested him on the outstanding Jackson County warrant.&nbsp; 

Barber was transferred to Jackson County where he was booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of criminal damage to property, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a hallucinogenic drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

WICHITA, Kan.&nbsp;— The Wichita Police Department arrested an 18-year-old after he shot and critically injured another 18-year-old Tuesday night inside a south Wichita home.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting around 10 p.m. Dec. 23 in the 3600 block of South Eisenhower Court and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.&nbsp;

Investigators determined the victim was in the basement with a friend showing him two firearms. During the interaction, the friend reportedly pointed one of the firearms at the victim and fired, striking him.&nbsp;

The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.&nbsp;

The 18-year-old suspect was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on a charge of aggravated battery.&nbsp;

“Tragically we have another incident where we have two young adults playing with a firearm not practicing responsible gun ownership or handling,” Police Chief Joe Sullivan said. “It is tragic that at this time of year when families are supposed to be celebrating this joyous holiday season coming two families lives have forever been changed.”&nbsp;

Kan. teen jailed after accidental shooting critically injures teen

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on multiple allegations after a standoff at a home in Wichita.

Just before 6:30p.m. Monday, police responded to a reported burglary at a residence in the 1700 Block of North Waco in Wichita, according to a media relase.

 Officers arrived and spoke with the female resident who told officers she returned home with her infant and found her ex-boyfriend inside who did not live there and he refused to leave.

The suspect reportedly armed himself with a large kitchen knife, advanced toward the resident, and threatened to kill officers when they arrived. The woman fled with her child and called 911.

When officers arrived, the suspect yelled at them and barricaded himself inside the home. Due to the threats and barricade, SWAT and the Crisis Negotiations Team were called to the scene. Negotiators worked for several hours to safely resolve the situation.

The suspect, identified from booking records as 45-year-old Hassan Melelek eventually exited through the back door and attempted to flee. SWAT officers and a police K-9 apprehended him. EMS evaluated the suspect on scene before he was transported to a local hospital for further assessment. No officers were injured.

Melelek was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on charges of aggravated burglary, aggravated assault, and felony criminal damage to property.

&nbsp;JACKSON COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating two suspect on drug allegations.&nbsp;

Just after&nbsp; 7:00 a.m. Dec. 18, a Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives served a search warrant at the residence of 16399 R. Road, just north of the City of Mayetta, according to Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse. In October law enforcement responded to a shooting at the same address.

 The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received information late Tuesday evening reporting a domestic altercation and criminal damage to a vehicle at the location.&nbsp; On Wednesday, deputies served the search warrant taking two men into custody.

Deputies arrested 22-year-old Cody M. Smith and 21-year-old Cole Alexander Thompson both of Mayetta.

Deputies seized cocaine and weapons from the residence. Smith was booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of distribution of cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of a hallucinogenic drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Thompson was booked into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of&nbsp; possession of cocaine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, domestic battery and criminal damage to property.

Sheriff: Suspects were selling cocaine from Kansas home

FINNEY COUNTY—With just a day before Christmas, a crash involving an alleged DUI ensured one "driver’s spot on the naughty list," according to a social media report from Garden City Police.

Just before 11p.m. Dec. 18, Police, Fire, and EMS responded to an injury accident in the 1300 block of N. 13th Street in Garden City. First responders found that a garage and a parked pickup truck in the driveway had been struck. The suspected vehicle, a Toyota Camry, was located across the street with extensive front‑end damage.

The driver, identified as Nickolas Asebedo, 23, ran from the crash as Officers arrived, jumping several fences to escape the area. 

Officers located Asebedo at his home, and further investigation determined he was driving under the influence and registered a blood alcohol content nearly twice the legal limit. 

Asebedo was arrested and booking into the Finney County Jail on requested charges of DUI, Interference LEO, Tampering with an Ignition Interlock Device, and Duty Upon Striking an Unattended Vehicle. There were no injuries reported from the incident.

Police: SW Kansas driver sure to make 'the naughty list'

BARTON COUNTY—Law enforcement are investigating a suspect on drug allegations.

Just after 10 p.m. Dec. 21, an police conducted a traffic stop in the 3600 block of 10th&nbsp;Street in Great Bend for an equipment violation, according to a media release.

During this traffic stop, Great Bend K9 Neo was utilized for a free-air sniff of the vehicle. With the assistance of a Barton County Sheriff's deputy, the officer began to conduct a search of the vehicle after a positive alert from K9 Neo.

While removing the two occupants from the vehicle, the male passenger, Jason Sohm, 46, became confrontational and attempted to run.&nbsp; Sohm was unsuccessful and was detained by the two officers. During his attempted flight on foot, Sohm received minor injuries and was treated on scene by Great Bend Fire and EMS.

During the search of the vehicle, a large quantity of a crystal-like substance belonging to Sohm was located. Officers conducted a field test of the substance, which tested positive for Methamphetamine and Fentanyl. 

Sohm was placed under arrest and transported to the Barton County Jail, where he was booked on requested charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl/Methamphetamine, Felony Interference with Law Enforcement, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and No Drug Tax Stamp. Following the initial investigation, the driver of the vehicle was released at the scene.

Kan. man transporting fentanyl ran from traffic stop

WICHITA, Kan. -&nbsp;Wichita police have arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with a fatal shooting Monday afternoon in north Wichita.

Officers were dispatched at 3:16 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, to a reported shooting in the 2600 block of N. Fairview. A RAVEN gunshot-detection alert was recorded at about 3:15 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a 14-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Officers and EMS immediately began life-saving measures.&nbsp;

The teen was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and later died.

Preliminary information indicates four boy, ages 14 to 18, were in a backyard when the shooting occurred.

A 15-year-old was taken to be interviewed and later booked into the Juvenile Intake Assessment Center (JIAC) on a charge of second-degree murder. A firearm was located at the scene, and further testing will be completed to determine if it was the firearm used in the homicide.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charging consideration.

15-year-old Kansas boy accused in deadly shooting

SEDGWICK COUNTY–A&nbsp; woman accused in the shooting death of her boyfriend on his birthday was in court on Friday.

A jury found Amunique Cavitt, 19 of Wichita, guilty of 2nd degree intentional murder with a domestic violence finding, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Around noon April 23, 2024, police responded to the 1400 block of Minnesota Avenue in Wichita following reports of a shooting., according to police spokesman Andrew Ford. First responders found 34-year-old&nbsp; Norman E. Carter III with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Responding officers immediately started life-saving measures until Sedgwick County EMS arrived and transported Carter to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead at 1:01 p.m, according to Ford.&nbsp; It was his birthday, according to<a href="https://www.heavenlygatesmortuary.com/obituary/norman-carter"> his obituary.</a>

Police detained a person of interest in their investigation and later booked&nbsp; Amunique Cavitt into jail. The district attorney's office has not released a date for her sentencing.

Jury: Kansas woman killed her boyfriend on his birthday

SEDGWICK COUNTY —A Kansas man accused in the death of a 4-year-old boy is due back in court on Monday.&nbsp;

On Dec. 12, Judge Rodger Woods charged 34-year-old Daniel Martin with&nbsp; first degree murder and child abuse in the death of Tiuri Blunt-Porrata, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Just before 3:30p.m. Dec. 8, police&nbsp; responded to a medical call regarding an unresponsive 4-year-old child in the 2600 block of South Topeka in Wichita, according to police department spokesman Andrew Ford. The child identified as Tirui Blunt-Porrata, according to an online fundraiser, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was pronounced deceased at 4:07 p.m.

Police arrested Martin and booked him, into the Sedgwick County Jail where he remains on a $1 million bond, according to online jail records.

On December 16, police arrested the boy's mother 27-year-old Tyne Blunt in connection with the boy's death. A Sedgwick County judge charged her with first-degree murder and aggravated endangering a child, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.

Blunt is being held on a  a $750,000 bond and is scheduled to return to court on December 29, according to the district attorney's office.

The child identified as Tirui Blunt-Porrata, according to an online fundraiser, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and was pronounced deceased at 4:07 p.m.Police arrested Martin and booked him, into the Sedgwick County Jail where he remains on a $1 million bond, according to online jail records.On December 16, police arrested the boy's mother 27-year-old Tyne Blunt in connection with the boy's death. A Sedgwick County judge charged her with first-degree murder and aggravated endangering a child, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.Blunt is being held on a a $750,000 bond and is scheduled to return to court on December 29, according to the district attorney's office.

Larry Henry, age 78, of Concordia, KS, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born on November 8, 1947, in Salina, KS to Merrill A. &amp; Vada M. (Comfort) Henry.

He graduated from Clyde High School in 1965 and served in the US Air Force from 1966-1970 during the Vietnam War. He also served in the Kansas Air National Guard from 1970-1971.

He married Sherry Reeves on June 2, 1968, in Concordia, KS.

Larry built a long and dedicated career in business and banking. He began working for Schendel Pest Control, later moving on to Wilson Furniture Store and People’s Heritage Savings &amp; Loan, before joining 1st Bank &amp; Trust. His banking career continued at UMB Bank, where he served as a loan officer and later as Senior Vice President.&nbsp;He later worked in the trust department at Citizens National Bank, retiring in 2015.

He served the community of Concordia in various capacities, from serving on the Concordia Country Club Board, a Trustee on the Cloud County Community College Board, a Past President of the Concordia Chamber of Commerce, a Past President of Concordia Rotary Club, Cloud Corp Board of Directors, and NCK CASA Board of Directors.

He was an active member of the Elks Lodge #1428. He was a member of the Concordia Country Club, American Legion Golf Course and Concordia Golf &amp; Wellness. He also belonged to the American Legion Post #76 of Concordia &amp; VFW Post #7515 of Clyde

Larry’s passion was always his family.&nbsp;&nbsp;He loved to attend and support all his children and grandchildren’s activities, no matter where those travels would take him.&nbsp;He had a deep love for all sports, and as an avid golfer, he especially cherished the time spent on the course with his wife and family.

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Wichita police arrested four people, including two juveniles, after investigators determined a gunshot that struck a 22-year-old woman inside her home was fired from a nearby parking garage.

Just before 10p.m. Dec. 18, police responded to a reported shooting in the 700 block of E. Second Street North in Wichita, according to a media release.

The injured woman told officers she had just arrived home with a friend when a bullet came through a window and struck her in the upper body. She went to a local hospital in a private vehicle and was later treated and released.

Investigators determined the shot came from the Warren Parking Garage, 315 N. Moore Street., across from the apartment complex at 701 E. Second St. North.

Cameras in the area were used to identify a vehicle of interest. Later that night, officers observed and stopped that vehicle near Mount Vernon and Washington. Officers detained five people and took them for interviews. Police later booked four suspects into the Sedgwick County Jail and the Juvenile Detention Facility.

Those arrested include a 17-year-old boy, a 14-year-old boy, an 18-year-old woman identified in county booking records at Pamela Nunez and a 20-year-old man identified in county booking records as Franklin L. Hernandez Murillo. They are being held on requested charges of aggravated battery, discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling and unlawful possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

“This has to stop,” Chief Joe Sullivan said. “One reckless decision can change a life forever. Juveniles, or any person, who make the intentional decision to pick up a firearm and use it in the commission of a crime need to and will be held accountable.”

Gunfire struck Kansas woman in her home, 4 arrested

Eloise Estelle Holman was born on May 31, 1931, in Chicago to George Lewis Ford and Mary Edyth (Wolfe) Ford.&nbsp; She became the big sister to brothers Edsel and Eugene. The family moved from Chicago to San Dimas, California when Eloise was about 17, and the youngest child, Eugene, was about 4 years old. Eloise remembers helping her dad build their house.

Eloise entered La Verne College after graduation from high school, majoring in Home Economics. College helped Eloise become a wonderful seamstress.&nbsp; During college, Eloise met Gerald “Jerry” Holman, and they became a couple. Soon after, Jerry was drafted into service in Texas. Not wanting to lose her, Jerry proposed and they were married, with a promise to Eloise’s family that she would be able to finish college. But life got in the way.

After Jerry’s service, they returned to La Verne so that Jerry could finish college.&nbsp; Eloise worked for and supported the two of them, working for the telephone company.

After Jerry’s graduation, the couple purchased a small home and started their family.&nbsp; Sheree was born in 1955 and Craig in 1958. The family enjoyed camping and boating during this time.

In 1963, Jerry was offered a position in Dallas, Texas.&nbsp; They purchased a beautiful home in an amazing suburb but were only there for 9 months. President Kennedy was shot during the time they lived there.

The family moved back to Pasadena, California in 1964 and lived there until 1968. Eloise was very involved in the church there and was one of “church basement ladies”, involved in all the social aspects of the flock. She helped with ice cream socials, mother/daughter banquets, and many other events, as well as honing her sewing skills, making most of her and her daughter’s clothes.

In early 1968, McPherson College made the Holman family an offer. The city life had become beyond hectic and the couple was looking for a major change in their lives. They moved to McPherson.&nbsp; Eloise again became very involved in the church and as well as college functions, making all the tennis shorts for the men’s tennis team. She also worked in alterations in a downtown dress shop, was a wonderful cook, and homemaker.

As a couple, Jerry and Eloise acquired and maintained approximately 50 rentals in the McPherson area.&nbsp; Eloise did renovations and most of the tax and book work for the properties. During this time, she operated “The Tennis Scene”, a tennis pro shop adjacent to the local tennis courts.

Family time was spent at the Wilson Lake where Jerry and Eloise owned a cabin cruiser named “Too Much”. Eloise was also involved in her son’s tournament tennis endeavors and her daughter's passion for horses. She also ended up fulfilling that promise to graduate from college in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree. She graduated Magna Cum Laude.

After the kids graduated, it was time to spread their wings. The couple traveled to newly filled Lake Powell, and ended up traveling in an RV to every state in the continental US.&nbsp; Eloise and Jerry spent over 72 years together and enjoyed their lives to the fullest.

Though she was an elegant, well rounded woman, Eloise was tough.&nbsp; She survived a traumatic brain injury (scooter accident) as well as 4 kinds of stage 4 cancer.

Eloise is survived by a daughter, Sheree Collins and her husband, Charles, and daughter, Sara (Tyler); son, Craig Holman and his wife, Karen, and their children, Alyson and Michael (Bernitez); and a brother, Eugene Ford and his wife, Maureen.

She was preceded in death by parents, George &amp; Mary Ford; husband of 72+ years, Jerry Holman; and a brother, Edsel Ford.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 9, 2026, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Kathryn Whitacre officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department released thousands of files Friday from its investigation into convicted sex offender&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/jeffrey-epstein">Jeffrey Epstein</a>&nbsp;even as it acknowledged that its documents disclosure about the wealthy financier, known for his connections to President Donald Trump and other influential people, was incomplete.

<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jeffrey-epstein-files-release-justice-department-32cbc21a6ae8189dccd00455dc83d2be">The records</a>&nbsp;arrived with public anticipation that they could offer the most detailed look yet at nearly two decades worth of government&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-epstein-investigation-records-timeline-545c371ee3dd3142355a26d27829c188">investigations into Epstein’s sexual abuse</a>&nbsp;of young women and underage girls. But it remained unclear how much substantive new information was included in the photos, call logs, grand jury testimony and interview transcripts, or how much if any additional insight might be gleaned about Epstein’s relationships with rich and powerful contacts.

The files were being released in accordance with a congressionally set deadline of Friday, but the Justice Department signaled that it would not fully meet that mark, with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche telling Fox News Channel that he expected the department to release “several hundred thousand” records Friday and then several hundred thousand more in the coming weeks.

The law’s passage was a remarkable display of bipartisanship that overcame months of opposition from Trump and Republican leadership.<h2>What the law allows</h2>That law allows for redactions about the victims or ongoing investigations but makes clear no records shall be withheld or redacted due to “embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity.”Attorney General Pam Bondi said on Nov. 14 that she had&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/epstein-trump-clinton-investigation-justice-department-d0ce8385cb7f42705ac068310e3231be">ordered a top federal prosecutor</a>&nbsp;to investigate Epstein’s ties to Trump’s political foes, including former President Bill Clinton. Bondi acted after Trump pressed for such an inquiry, though he did not explain what supposed crimes he wanted the Justice Department to investigate. None of the men Trump mentioned in a social media post demanding the investigation has been accused of sexual misconduct by any of Epstein’s victims.In July, Trump dismissed some of his own supporters as “weaklings” for falling for&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-supporters-epstein-sex-trafficking-investigation-bondi-47370e63060d79af64b0b8ac70b970a4">“the Jeffrey Epstein hoax.”</a>&nbsp;But both Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., failed to prevent the legislation from coming to a vote.<a href="https://apnews.com/article/epstein-files-trump-congress-c858fcd7d587bb61d1b73753487b0ee1">Trump did a U-turn</a>&nbsp;on the files once it became clear that congressional action was inevitable. He insisted that the Epstein matter had become a distraction to the Republican agenda and that releasing the records was the best way to move on.<h2>The Epstein investigations</h2>Police in Palm Beach, Florida, began investigating Epstein in 2005 after the family of a 14-year-old girl reported she had been molested at his mansion. The FBI joined the investigation, and authorities gathered testimony from multiple underage girls who said they had been hired to give Epstein sexual massages.Ultimately, though, prosecutors&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jeffrey-epstein-florida-e2a4431f7319afd037023d9a586aa291">gave Epstein a deal</a>&nbsp;that allowed him to avoid federal prosecution. He pleaded guilty to state prostitution charges involving someone under age 18 and was sentenced to 18 months in jail.Epstein’s accusers then spent years in civil litigation trying to get that plea deal set aside. One of those women, Virginia Giuffre, accused Epstein of arranging for her to have sexual encounters, starting at age 17, with numerous other men, including billionaires, famous academics, U.S. politicians and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, then known as Britain’s&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/ghislaine-maxwell-entertainment-lifestyle-virginia-prince-andrew-60348f70fd605c26c26615ffc5ed5f14">Prince Andrew</a>.All of those men denied the allegations. Prosecutors never brought charges in connection with Giuffre’s claims, but her account fueled conspiracy theories about supposed government plots to protect the powerful.&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/virginia-roberts-giuffre-obit-778c4fdd6fac2522133ca3d79244bccd">Giuffre died</a>&nbsp;by suicide at her farm in Western Australia in April at age 41.Federal prosecutors in New York brought new sex trafficking charges against Epstein in 2019, but&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/jeffrey-epstein-jail-suicide-prison-death-8d194a756f2b429067f009a0c70f96c0">he killed himself in jail</a>&nbsp;a month after his arrest. Prosecutors then charged Epstein’s longtime confidant, British socialite&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/ghislaine-maxwell">Ghislaine Maxwell</a>, with recruiting underage girls for Epstein to abuse.Maxwell was convicted in late 2021 and is serving a 20-year prison sentence, though she was&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/epstein-ghislaine-maxwell-justice-department-prison-27d53cd22f8c53d9f2b5012cea32eb5e">moved from a low-security federal prison in Florida</a>&nbsp;to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas after she&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/epstein-maxwell-justice-department-interview-transcripts-1d38a010e72b5b58cca944cb3bbb0e6a">was interviewed</a>&nbsp;over the summer by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. Her lawyers argued that she never should have been tried or convicted.The Justice Department in July said it had not found any information that could support prosecuting anyone else.<h2>Lots of Epstein records were already public</h2>After nearly two decades of court action and prying by reporters, a voluminous number of records related to Epstein is already public, including flight logs, address books, email correspondence, police reports, grand jury records, courtroom testimony and transcripts of depositions of his accusers, his staffers and others.Yet, the public’s appetite for more records has been insatiable, particularly for anything related to Epstein’s associations with famous people including Trump, Mountbatten-Windsor and Clinton.Trump was friends with Epstein for years before the two had a falling out.
