
Wilfred John Vargas, 101, passed away on July 14, 2025, at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, KS. He was born on November 6, 1923, to Benjamin and Paula (Ramirez) Vargas.
Wilfred became an orphan at the age of 9 and was placed, along with his brother Alfred, in the St. Joseph Orphanage in Abilene, KS. The brothers attended school in Abilene.
He joined the United States Marine Corps and served during World War II in the Pacific, as well as in the Korean War. After his military service, Wilfred held numerous jobs, including work as a plumber and carpenter. He was also employed in the electrical field, lead wiring, and sheet metal work; worked as a machinist at an aircraft manufacturing plant; and later worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sarah Cordero, Josephine Sanchez, Hope Rojas, and Francis Vargas; and brothers, Rudolph, Alfred, and Gregorio.
Although Wilfred never had children of his own, he had many nieces and nephews who were very dear to him.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
