The Southeast of Saline softball team collected a clean sweep of the Abilene Cowgirls on Friday to make it a perfect 6-0 start to the season with wins of 9-2 and 9-7.

The Lady Trojan bats picked up right where they left off in Republic County, striking for four quick runs in the first inning of game one and adding insurance in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth during a ten-hit outing.

Brenna Baird looked immaculate in the circle, refusing to allow a single earned run through seven innings, striking out seven and walking just two.

As has been the MO of this Lady Trojan team all season, no one player stood out on offense as eight different batters finished game one with a hit, and five of those drove in a run.

Game two saw late drama as SES carried a 7-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh, which was quickly erased as untimely errors led to five unearned Abilene runs coming across to tie the game.

The Lady Trojans tightened the screws defensively to force extras and wasted no time reclaiming the lead with two runs in the eighth and quick outs worked by Lexi Jacobson to cap off a thrilling extra-inning win.

Jacobson looked solid through all eight innings in the circle, striking out nine and walking just two with just one of her seven runs allowed being earned.

Game two saw multi-hit, multi-RBI games for Carly Commerford and Chase Gilpin as the Lady Trojans held on for a doubleheader sweep of their 4A foe.

League play resumes on Tuesday as SES returns home to host rival Sacred Heart in a doubleheader.
