WINFIELD – The Kansas Wesleyan Track and Field teams had their best showing in several years at the KCAC Track and Field Championships hosted by Southwestern on Thursday and Friday. The Coyote men would finish seventh out of 12 teams, while the women would finish fifth.
The fifth place finish by the women's team is the highest finish since 2005. The seventh place finish for the men is the best finish in the championship in over 20 years for the Coyotes.
The Coyotes had a pair of KCAC Champions in the event.
Eryk Kyser (SO/Caney, Kan.) won the long jump with a mark of 7.06m.
Kalil Murphy (FR/Hollywood, Fla.) won the triple jump with a mark of 14.36m, also hitting the NAIA B Standard in the event.
Several other Coyotes had All-KCAC performances, finishing in the top three in their event.
Saffron Jacobs (SO/Johannesburg, South Africa) placed second in the discus with a mark of 39.99m.
Cole Parker (JR/Corning, Calif.) placed second in the javelin with a mark of 50.76m.
Stephanie Martinez (SR/Horizon City, Texas) finished second in the 10000m with a time of 38:59.33.
Tabetha Deines (SR/Salina, Kan.) placed second in the 800m with a time of 2:15.87, hitting the NAIA B Standard in the event.
Samiyah Walker (FR/Bakersfield, Calif.) finished third in the long jump with a mark of 5.33m.
Stephanie Martinez placed third in the 5000m with a time of 18:17.81.
The women's 4x400m relay team of Tamayia Washington (FR/Manhattan, Kan.), Bailey Mann (FR/Ferris, Texas), Samiyah Walker and Tabetha Deines finished third with a time of 4:03.49.
KWU also had several Honorable Mention All-KCAC performances finishing in the top eight.
Tabetha Deines placed fourth in the 1500m with a time of 4:38.23, hitting the NAIA B Standard.
Darius Archuleta (FR/Liberal, Kan.) finished fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.64m.
Marisela Hernandez-Castro (SR/Yuba City, Calif.) finished fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 43.00m.
Nicole Holaday (JR/Gove, Kan.) finished fifth with a mark of 11.66m in the shot put.
The women's 4x800m relay team of Josie Koppes (FR/Manhattan, Kan.), Regan Rhodes (JR/Mullinville, Kan.), Daniella Gaona (SO/Clifton, Texas) and Kylie Mouser (FR/Wichita, Kan.) finished fifth with a time of 10:23.61.
The women's 4x100m relay team of Samiyah Walker, Tamayia Washington, Tiffany Pace (FR/Ferris, Texas) and Bailey Mann finished fifth with a time of 50.52 seconds.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Eryk Kyser, Eugene Dixon (SR/Plymouth, Minn.), Nigel Davis (SR/Los Angeles, Calif.) and Kalil Murphy placed sixth with a time of 42.20 seconds.
The men's 4x400m relay team of Dixon, Kyser, Darius Archuleta and Kalil Murphy finished sixth with a time of 3:32.22.
Kamal Murphy (FR/Hollywood, Fla.) placed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.55m.
Kaleigh Hanzlick (SR/Hoisington, Kan.) placed seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.44m.
Bailey Mann placed seventh in the 400m with a time of 60.65 seconds.
Austin Hess (SO/Garden City, Kan.) placed seventh in the 10000m with a time of 33:21.75.
The men's 4x800m relay team of Shane Calvin (SO/Lakin, Kan.), Gavin Tucker (FR/Wichita, Kan.), Giovanni Rios (FR/Temecula, Calif.) and Ty Davidson (FR/Lakin, Kan.) finished seventh with a time of 8:14.29.
Kalil Murply placed seventh in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.69 seconds.
Eugene Dixon finished seventh in the 400m with a time of 49.42 seconds.
Preston Rottinghaus (FR/Wichita, Kan.) finished eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.90m.
Giovanni Rios placed eighth in the 5000m with a time of 15:51.56.
Cole Parker placed eighth in the discus throw with a mark of 38.48m.
Hunter Pane placed eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.59m.
Several others had good performances for the Coyotes.
Hunter Pane placed ninth in the discus with a mark of 38.34m.
Samiyah Walker finished ninth in the 100m with a time of 12.79 and Tiffany Pace was 18th with a time of 13.09 seconds.
Shane Calvin placed ninth in the 5000m with a time of 15:54.82, Austin Hess was 12th with a time of 16:13.88, Cisco Alvarez (FR/Colorado Springs, Colo.) was 23rd with a time of 17:03.27 and Stevie Merrill was 24th with a time of 17:03.86.
Tamayia Washington was 10th in the 400m with a time of 62.15 seconds.
Hunter Pane placed 10th in the javelin with a mark of 34.84m.
Kyser placed 10th in the 400m with a time of 50 seconds flat, Nigel Davis was 20th with a time of 52.25 and Darius Archuleta was 26th with a time of 53.92.
Kylie Mouser placed 11th in the 800m with a time of 2:30.11, Josie Koppes was 15th with a time of 2:34.29, Alayna Behrman (FR/Craig, Colo.) was 20th with a time of 2:41.17, and Savannah Pilsner (FR/Columbus, Texas) was 26th with a time of 2:53.51.
Cole Parker placed 11th in the shot put with a mark of 13.24m and Hunter Pane finished 17th with a mark of 11.49m.
Stevie Merrill placed 11th in the 10000m with a time of 34:37.68 and Cisco Alvarez placed 13th with a time of 34:57.34.
Jack Horacek (FR/Topeka. Kan.) placed 11th in the Steeplechase with a time of 10:44.81.
Kalil Murply finished 12th in the long jump with a mark of 6.14m and Kamal Murphy finished 15th with a mark of 5.26m.
Saffron Jacobs placed 13th in the shot put with a mark of 10.71m and Marisela Hernandez-Castro finished 22nd with a mark of 9.04m.
Dixon placed 13th in the 200m with a time of 22.46 and Nigel Davis placed 23rd with a time of 22.96 seconds.
Gavin Tucker placed 14th in the 1500m with a time of 4:11.73, and Jack Horacek was 18th with a time of 4:19.73.
Eugene Dixon placed 15th in the preliminaries of the 100m with a time of 11.06 seconds.
Daniella Gaona placed 17th in the 1500m with a time of 5:17.43, Regan Rhodes was 20th with a time of 5:23.42.
Pace placed 18th in the 200m with a time of 27.11 and Samiyah Walker was 23rd with a time of 27.43 seconds.
Ty Davidson placed 20th in the 800m with a time of 2:00.92, Gavin Tucker was 28th with a time of 2:04.61 and Roberto Apodaca (FR/Scott City, Kan.) was 34th with a time of 2:09.92.
