Madeleine F. Brown, 89, of Clay Center, died Thursday, August 5, 2021 at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor. She was born on January 5, 1932 in Washington County, the daughter of Paul and Faye (Stanton) Henderson. Madeleine graduated from Morrowville School then moved to Clay Center to be a nurse’s aide, where she met her husband Virgil Brown. The couple was married on January 4, 1953 in Rice, Kansas and were married for 53 years before he passed away in 2006.
Madeleine was a homemaker until she went back to work at the Elks Lodge as a cook for 18 years. She was a member of the Clay Center Wesleyan Church and enjoyed crocheting, making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and being with friends and family.
She was also preceded in death by her daughters, Linda Largen and Edith Brown, granddaughter, Amber Largen, her parents, one sister and one brother.
Survivors:
Sons: Terry and Paul Brown of Kanapolis, North Carolina
Daughters: Nancy and husband, Kelly Carter of Wellington, Kansas and Connie Brown of Holton, Kansas
Five grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren
Three sisters: Dorothea Boutz of Manhattan, Kansas, Pauline Hynek of Endicott, Nebraska and Sally Buckholz of Lincoln, Nebraska
One brother: Milton Henderson of Glasco, Kansas
Numerous nieces and nephews
Funeral services: Thursday, August 12, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at the Clay Center Wesleyan Church, Clay Center, Kansas
Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, Kansas
Visitation: Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the Clay Center Wesleyan Church, Clay Center, Kansas.
