The Southeast of Saline Lady Trojans complete the season sweep of the Sacred Heart Lady Knights with a 44-35 victory tonight on their home floor.
With this win, SES has won four straight and advances to 9-5 on the season while Sacred Heart falls to 7-5.
The Lady Trojans were led in scoring tonight by Karsyn Schlesener with 11 points, but once again their depth was on full display as six other players made contributions in the win.
With the size of Sacred Heart, Southeast was forced to play much more physically tonight, but did an excellent job controlling the tempo of the game, forcing 15 turnovers and finding plenty of points in transition.
“We knew the game was going to be physical going in,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “The first time we played them we had some of their kids in foul trouble but we knew we would have to play physical to beat them tonight.”
Sacred Heart was led by Teegan Slagle with seven points but Southeast held all other players to under that mark, once again hanging their hats on a good defensive effort.
SES also played immaculately in the third quarter, which has become a theme in 2020-21, allowing just one made field goal in the frame. The Lady Trojans are now 9-0 when leading at the half.
“We wanted to come out of the locker room and pressure the ball,” Smith said. “Early in the half we were getting back-doored a lot so we packed it in and when we did that I thought we looked really good.”
The Lady Trojans will be back in action on Friday with an excellent opportunity to make it five straight hosting 1-8 Chapman.
