The Salina Fire Department has introduced the first of seven new fire apparatus ordered earlier this year, marking a significant upgrade to the department's firefighting capabilities.
Quint 4, now stationed at Fire House 4 on Salina's east side, has been operational for several weeks. According to a statement from the fire department, crews have been actively training with the new apparatus to familiarize themselves with its features and functions.
The vehicle has a 107-foot aerial ladder, allowing firefighters to reach elevated structures or conduct rescues from significant heights. It also carries 475 gallons of water, 25 gallons of firefighting foam, and an array of firefighting tools, hoses, and equipment.
Among its advanced features is a battery-powered hydraulic combi tool, commonly called the “jaws of life,” used during vehicle accidents to access and extricate trapped individuals.
The arrival of Quint 4 is part of a broader investment in the Salina Fire Department to enhance response times and operational efficiency. Additional apparatus from the February order will arrive in the coming months.
Residents can expect to see the new fire truck during emergencies and training exercises around the city.
