September 10, 1929 - January 28, 2023

Albert Gene Gaeddert died Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Inman, KS. Albert was born September 10, 1929 to David R. And Elizabeth (Franz) Gaeddert.

Albert went to Lakeside Grade School and graduated from Buhler High School in 1947.

After graduation, he was employed by Richards-Scheble Candy Co. in Hutchinson as a salesman for three years.

He then met Nola Marie Herman and they were married August 12,1951 at Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church.

In 1952, Albert and Nola moved to the farm southeast of Buhler. Albert began working as a finish carpenter for Jayhawk Realty Company in Hutchinson and continued for 30 years making beautiful custom cabinetry. He also raised wheat, alfalfa, prairie hay, and other crops, while maintaining a herd of cattle and various other farm animals over the years.

His daughter Jan Louise was born in 1953, followed by Shirley Ann in September 1955.

Although Albert’s carpentry and farm work took a lot of his time, he always made time to take the family on a summer vacation, often trips to Colorado and the west. Albert was very conservative, but about every two years he would purchase a new car!

Albert and Nola were both members of the Buhler Mennonite Church. Albert served as a trustee, an usher, and on the social committee. They both volunteered many years at The Mennonite Relief sale and donated many of Nola’s wood carvings. Albert also served on the Little River Township Board for two terms.

Albert retired in 1990, sold the farmhouse and moved to Hutchinson. For about 20 years Albert and Nola traveled to Phoenix, Arizona in the winter months to enjoy the weather and spend time with Nola’s sister and others. Albert enjoyed playing a little golf with friends after retirement. In 2002 they moved to the Pleasant View Estates in Inman.

Albert is preceded in death by Nola, June 2022, and is survived by daughters, Jan Jaye-Smith and husband Steven Smith (Wichita, KS); Shirley Pestinger and husband Robert Pestinger (Andover, KS); five grandchildren, Ashley Hein (Ponca City, OK), Brandon Jaye (Leawood, KS), Tyler Jaye (Lees Summit, MO), Lindsay Paulseen (Wichita, KS), Cameron Pestinger (Chicago, Il), and nine great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held.

Memorials contributions may be made to Pleasant View Home (for the Heritage Unit Activities) in care of Buhler Mortuary, P.O. Box 589, Buhler, KS 67522.
