Wichita Wind Surge
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Arkansas Travelers scored four third-inning runs and never trailed, handing the Wichita Wind Surge a 6-1 loss to open the six-game series.
The Travelers sent eight batters to the plate in the third inning and scored four runs on four hits. Infielder Kaden Polcovich had a pair of hits in the game and an RBI.
Bryan Sammons started for the first time this season and allowed four hits and two strikeouts in 2 ⅓ innings pitched and suffered the loss. Arkansas starter Connor Jones pitched six innings and earned the win.
Anthony Prato picked up the only run of the night in the bottom of the top of the fifth with his second RBI single of the season. Travelers outfielder Cade Marlowe hammered a solo home run to right field in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 6-1.
The Wind Surge threatened in the ninth leaving a pair of runners on base. The Surge left eight men on for the game. Wichita is 30-20 for the season and lead Tulsa by one half game.
Notes: Matt Wallner extended his hit streak to six games…Ernie Yake was placed on the 7-day injured list. Wind Surge have dropped each of their opening games in the series against Arkansas this season.
