A Salina man was hospitalized after an alleged altercation between neighbors.
Officers were sent to the 400 block of Washington Street at 11:45 p.m. Friday for the report of a person being stabbed, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning. When they arrived, they found Lance Ellegood, 49, of Salina, in the driveway of a residence in the 500 block of S. 10th Street. He had severe lacerations to his abdomen and left forearm and was incoherent.
Witnesses reported that they heard an argument between neighbors. Ellegood exited a residence in the 400 block of Washington Street and walked to where he was located while asking for help. Witnesses also reported they observed another man exit the residence and enter another residence in the 400 block of Washington Street. Officers located, Mathue Halpain, 32, of Salina, exiting the rear of the second house, Forrester noted. Halpain was taken into custody.

Search warrants were executed for the two Washington Street residences. During the search, the suspected weapon, an approximately 12-inch kitchen knife, was located, as was marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Ellegood was transported to Salina Regional Health Center and is expected to recover from his injuries, Forrester noted.
Halpain was arrested on the following requested charges, according to Forrester.

Interference with law enforcement
Possession of marijuana
Possession of paraphernalia
No drug tax stamp
