County commissioners to consider flood-related items Tuesday

Two flood-related items are among those on the Saline County Commission agenda for Tuesday.

About the meeting

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday in room 107 of the City-County Building, 300 West Ash Street. A time for public comment is scheduled near the beginning of the meeting.

County Commission meetings are now available by several options. The Board of County Commissioners encourage citizen participation in local governance processes. Making every effort to be in compliance with the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KSA 75-4317). Everyone is invited to participate in meetings. Speakers are requested to state their full name and address before delivering remarks. Please approach the podium and use the microphone. Comments are limited to three minutes.

Agenda items

During the meeting, commissioners are scheduled to hear a flooding update from Darren Fishel, road and bridge administrator. Additionally Michelle Barkley, emergency management director, is scheduled to present to the commissioners a proposed Proclamation of a State of Local Disaster Emergency for Saline County.

Additionally, commissioners are scheduled to consider approving an inmate housing contract with Dickinson County. The agreement is expected to save the county some money as Saline County Sheriff Office personnel would not have as far and as long to travel when transporting inmates.

Other items on the Saline County Commission agenda for Tuesday include the following.

●Consider reappointing Sean Robertson to another four-year term as county appraiser.

●Hear 2022 budget appropriation requests from the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce, the Natural Resource Conservation District, and Central Kansas Mental Health Center.

●Hear a human resources update from Marilyn Leamer, human resources director.

●Hear a Livestock and Expo Center update from David Flaherty II, livestock and expo director

●Hear County Administrator Phillip Smith-Hanes' weekly update.

Additionally, commissioners are scheduled to meet in two executive sessions concerning non-elected personnel.
