This morning, Saline County Commissioners moved the new jail project forward.
Commissioners approved the first part of a two-phase Guaranteed Maximum Price contract with Turner Construction Company to build the new Saline County Jail and Sheriff's Office at 800 E. Pacific Avenue in northeast Salina, according to information from County Administrator Phillip Smith-Hanes.
"This contract, valued at $25,035,500, covers many preliminary items and items with long lead times in the current construction environment. These include: earthwork, utilities, building concrete, pre-cast jail cells, pre-cast concrete wall panels, structural steel and some detention equipment," Smith-Hanes noted in an email update.
Additionally, commissioners set the public groundbreaking for the project for 9:30 a.m. Oct. 27. According to Smith-Hanes, the entrance to the location "is east of the North Front Street intersection and just west of Pacific Court."
Site grading and construction work is scheduled to begin in mid-November. The project is estimated to be completed in September 2023.
