St. Mary’s Grade School in Salina will once again participate in the Summer Seamless Lunch Program, providing free meals and snacks to children throughout the community during the summer months.

Through this program, nutritious meals will be available to all children 18 years of age and younger, as well as to individuals over age 18 with disabilities who participate in school programs for the mentally or physically disabled.

Meals will be distributed using a convenient grab-and-go system, allowing families to pick up lunches on-site.

Meal service will run May 26 through June 30, with distribution times from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or until meals are no longer available.

Please note that no meals will be served on Friday, June 12 due to the River Festival.

This program is open to the public, and all families in the Salina area are encouraged to participate.

“It is exciting to participate in the summer lunch program,” said Dr. Nick Compagnone, Consultant for Public Policy and Accreditation. “The program serves kids with a nutritional meal while school is not in session. We participated in the summer program several years ago, and many enjoyed having the opportunity. It serves our mission to provide for others.”

“The summer lunch programs are essential because they ensure children in our community continue to receive consistent, nutritious meals even when school is not in session, removing a major barrier to their health and well-being,” said Tym Bonilla, Principal of St. Mary’s Grade School. “Serving as a host site allows St. Mary’s to extend our mission beyond the classroom - providing a place of care, connection, and support for families while helping meet a critical community need.”

“Free summer lunch programs are important because they address food insecurity, support children’s health, reduce economic strain on families, and strengthen community networks,” said Jennifer McGilvray, Kitchen Manager at St. Mary’s Grade School. “I value serving as a free lunch site for the community because it allows me to support individuals in a meaningful and direct way. I also recognize that consistent access to food is not a reality for everyone, and many individuals benefit from additional support. Being able to contribute, even in a small way, provides an opportunity to give back and strengthen the community.”

St. Mary’s Grade School is proud to offer this important service and encourages community members to help spread the word so that all families who may benefit are aware of this opportunity.
