UPDATE: KBI names suspect who died after shooting in Salina

UPDATE 4:39 p.m. Saturday: The Kansas Bureau of Investigation this afternoon released the name of the suspect who died at Salina Regional Health Center Friday.

Kalun Purucker, 29, of Topeka, died from his injuries on Friday at the hospital, the KBI reported.

The other injured subject is a 20-year-old male from Lindsborg. He remains hospitalized but is now stable with non-life threatening injuries. He will not be named unless, or until, he is arrested or charged with a crime related to this incident.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to this case is encouraged to contact the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office at 913-782-0720.

Upon conclusion of the investigation, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office will present findings to the Saline County Attorney for review and determination.

SALINA– The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), and the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) were involved in a shooting following a car stop Friday in Salina.

KBI agents were attempting to locate a male subject who was believed connected to a KBI case, and who had arrest warrants. They requested help from KHP troopers to locate the subject. 

The man was observed getting into a vehicle that then left the area. Just before 4p.m., KBI agents and a KHP trooper initiated a car stop near Choctaw and Cherokee in Salina. The driver stopped, and as they approached the car, the law enforcement officers took gunfire from occupants in the vehicle. Two KBI agents and a KHP trooper returned gunfire hitting two male subjects.

Life saving measures were attempted at the scene. Both subjects were transported to area hospitals with critical injuries. No agents or troopers were injured in the incident.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was asked to investigate this incident. 

As is standard practice, and in accordance with Kansas Highway Patrol policy, the trooper involved will be placed on administrative leave while this case is being investigated by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. Also, per KBI policy, the agents will be placed on administrative leave.

SALINA —Law enforcement authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Salina.

Just after 4p.m. Friday, KBI agents were conducting an operation near the intersection  of Cherokee and Choctaw in Salina and were involved in a shooting with two suspects, according to KBI spokesperson Melissa Underwood.

Both suspects were shot and later taken to the hospital.

KBI agents were not injured and no other law enforcement officers present were injured, according to Underwood.

Authorities released no additional details.
