Kansas Wesleyan softball dropped both ends of Saturday's doubleheader with No. 11 ranked Grand View at Salina South High School. Grand View won the first game 10-3, and the second 10-2.

In the opener, Grand View took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a home run by Abby Sutten, and added a run in the second on a RBI single by Peyton Moffet.

The Coyotes then got on the board in the second with a pair of runs on bases loaded walks.

Mia Hernandez (SO/Hanford, Calif.) walked, Tiffani Alaniz (FR/Sebastian, Texas) doubles and Jocelyn Alcala (JR/Fullerton, Calif.) walked to load the bases. Samantha Herrera (SO/Lake Jackson, Texas) then came on to pinch hit and walked to force in the first run, and Sydnee Fordham (FR/Thornton, Colo.) followed with a walk to force home a second run in the inning.

GVU took advantage of a KWU error in the top of the fifth inning to score six runs, all unearned, to take a 9-2 lead.

The Vikings added a run in the top of the sixth on a homer, but the Coyotes scored a run on a passed ball as Alcala scored after singling earlier in the inning.

Five different players had a hit for the Coyotes. Starter Miranda Fogal (JR/Monticello, Ill.) went four and two-thirds allowing nine runs, only two earned, on five hits, with eight strikeouts, but also issued eight walks. Natalie Zamora (SO/Houston, Texas) allowed one run on two hits finishing the game.

GVU scored three runs in the top of the first of the second game, and added single tallies in the second and third before the Coyotes got on the board in the bottom of the inning on Hernandez's single that brought in Bailey Rivas (SR/La Puente, Calif.).

Grand View added another in the fourth, and three more in the sixth before Hernandez homered to right. The Vikings added one more in the seventh.

Hernandez was one of three players to have two hits for the Coyotes along with Destiny Hackney (SO/Thornton, Colo.) and Rivas. Jewell Henry (SR/Kingston, Okla.) went five and a third innings, allowing nine runs, seven earned, on 11 hits with a strikeout and two walks. Halee Sweat (JR/Hilo, Hawaii) finished the game allowing a run on two hits with a walk and strikeout.

The two teams will finish the three-game series on Sunday with a single game starting at noon at Salina South.
