Mitchell Jay Long

On May 30, 2024, Mitchell J. Long passed away at the age of 55, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and a zest for life. Born on July 15, 1968, in Topeka, KS, to Jim and Vernalee Long, Mitch’s life was a tapestry of learning and exploration.
Mitch graduated from Mission Valley High School, Eskridge KS, in 1986 and pursued his passion for Drafting & Mechanical Arts at Salina Area Technical School, earning his certification. He also obtained his Associated of Arts from Cloud County Community College.
Mitch’s professional journey began with Wilson and Associates in Salina, KS. His adventurous spirt took him to Lexington, KY where he thrived as Lead Project Draftsman for the Mapping and Aerial Department of GRW. Mitch’s dedication and talent earned him a promotion to Head of Mapping and Aerial, where he also took on project sales. His career continued to flourish at SAMS Corp. In April 2024 he began work for SurvTech Solutions, Surveying and Mapping LLC, located in Florida, as a Project/Manager/Business Development.
Mitch’s life was a celebration of family, friendship, and community. He cherished his loved ones and was a steadfast friend to many. Mitch’s heart was full of love for family and friends.
In his earlier years, Mitch enjoyed playing golf, driving fast cars, and being the life of the party. As he grew older, he found joy in target shooting, reading, woodworking, and dreaming of becoming a farmer on his cherished 40 acres in Alabama upon retirement.
Mitch’s vibrant spirit and kind heart touched many lives. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will forever inspire those who knew and loved him.
Mitch was preceded in death by his father Jimmie O. Long.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Vernalee and Jerry Olson of Marquette, KS, sister Shelley Long of Wichita, KS, aunt and uncle Wanda and Odell Long of Gordon, KY, aunt Judy Brewer of Topeka, KS, step brothers Russel Olson of Oklahoma City, OK and Jerry Lee Olson of Eudora, KS and step sister, Katrina Hyman of Salina, KS, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS 67456.
Graveside services will be 1:00pm, Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at The Eskridge Cemetery, Eskridge, KS with Pastor Jeff Quigley officiating.
