October 28, 1926 - February 2, 2023

Donald E. Cain, 96, of Salina, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Smoky Hill Rehabilitation Center.  He was born on a farm on October 28, 1926, in Longford, KS, the son of Ben and Edna (Snowden) Cain.   

He was married to Betty Lou Repstine on March 26, 1948 at St John’s Lutheran Church, Salina, Kansas.  To this union was born one son, Martin Douglas. 

Donald graduated from Salina High School in 1945, then attended Oklahoma University on a golf scholarship and Kansas Wesleyan.

Donald served in the United States Air Force From October 27, 1945 through August 22, 1947, serving as a Sgt. assigned to duty with Classification and Assignment Section Smoky Hill Army Air Field, Salina.

In 1949, Donald was employed by Mason Investment Company, for 15 years as a loan officer and then retired in Oct. 1988 from the First National Bank and Trust Company (Sunflower), after 25 years as Vice President of the Consumer Loan Department.

Donald was an avid golfer, fisherman and small game hunter.

He was a past member of Northview Country Club in Ellis, the Salina Municipal Golf Course and the Great Life Golf Course (ELKS) and was Past President of the Pioneer Lake Association.

He was a life member of the ELKS, KWU – W - Clan and the Disabled American Veterans.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Edna Cain, his wife Betty Lou, his son Martin, a grandson; Douglas, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include his daughter-in-law Darla Cain-Karst and her husband Sam of Bennington; a grandson, Mark and his wife Sarah, great-grandchildren Leah and Andrew, all of Hays, Kansas.

There will be a viewing for family and friends on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 from 4-6 p.m. with family present from  5-6 p.m. There will be a private family service with interment to be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina.
