Ethel Ella (Newell) Zrubek passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021, at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas. She was born on October 21, 1945, to Alfred E. and Marie E. (Knipp) Newell in Hays, Kansas.
In April of 1964 she graduated from Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina, Kansas. She went on to work for the Salina city court, the magistrate court, and was also employed by the Salina police department.
She married Larry A. Zrubek on February 24, 1968, in Damar, Kansas.
In 1976 she partnered with husband Larry and started Zrubek Transmission Service which was later sold.
In 1996 Ethel again went to work with husband Larry and son Gary, establishing Larry’s Transmission Repair, thereby building another successful family business where she worked until her passing.
Ethel’s greatest love was family which is reflected in her volumes of personal dedication to the family genealogy.
She is proceeded in death by parents Alfred E. and Maria E. (Knipp) Newell, brother Maxim E. Newell, sisters Henrietta L. (Tooker), Marlene A. Newell, and sister-in-law Patricia J. Newell
She is survived by husband Larry A. Zrubek, sons Gary A. and wife Laurie (Jeske) Zrubek, Michael A. and wife Becky (Lutz) Zrubek all of Salina; grandchildren Bradley Blair, Kylee Jeske, Ryan Zrubek, Patrick Zrubek, Joshua Zrubek, and Travis Zrubek, Michael Lutz Jr., Amanda Lutz, Mary Ellen Srack, Melissa Lutz, and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers LeRoy Newell of Salina, Richard Newell of Palco, sisters Wanita Hulett of Milford, and Raenetta Munsterman of Atchison, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Public visitations will be held on Friday, December 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, Kansas.
There will be a Mass at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 11 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral with graveside services following at the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery Salina, Kansas.
Masks are recommended.
