The Chapman softball team saw its season draw to a close in the quarterfinal round of this year’s 4A state tournament as the Lady Irish fell 4-0 at the hands of Fort Scott.

Madalynn Harold pitched well in her final game for the green and white, but the bats stayed cold in an opening-round shutout.
The Lady Tigers wasted no time getting on the board, as Allie Brown led the game off with a single and came in to score on a Raylee Cowan RBI double.
In the third inning, Cowan delivered again, plating another run on her second RBI double of the day.
Abbie Gorman crossed the plate on an RBI hit by pitch, but from there, Harold buckled down in the circle, allowing just one more run on one hit, a Kinsley Brown triple, for the remainder of the game.

Unfortunately for Harold, Chapman would get just five total baserunners on four singles and a fielder’s choice, never seeing a single runner advance beyond second base.
The Lady Irish can hold their heads high at the end of a spectacular 23-4 season that concludes at their first state tournament since 2016.
For Fort Scott, now 24-2, Eudora awaits in tomorrow’s semifinal at 1:00.
