The Southeast of Saline Lady Trojans will be heading into winter break on a high note with a 56-40 win over the Rossville Bulldogs tonight.
Southeast was led tonight by a 21 point performance from Avery Caselman who played big minutes in the absence of Karsyn Schlesener who came out with an apparent arm injury.
“Avery has had kind of a rough start but she came on for us tonight which we really needed,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “We have five girls on the floor who can score and thanks to Avery I thought we did a really good job of managing when Karsyn came out.”
Maddie Harris’ 11 point contribution was the only other in double digits, but the Lady Trojans found deep bench success tonight with eight girls on the scoring sheet.
Fortunately for Southeast, this time they were able to get out in front early, taking a 12-point lead into halftime.
“We told the girls that we couldn’t play the way we did last night,” Smith said. “Honestly it felt like we were due to hit some shots, it seems like we’ve always had to claw our way back into these early games but not tonight.”
With this win, the Lady Trojans will head into the break at 2-3 while Rossville falls to 1-3.
Despite having no games before the winter moratorium begins, Southeast has no plans to take it easy next week.
“It’s always good to go into the break with a win,” she said. But we’ll practice on Monday and Tuesday to keep our conditioning up and to keep ourselves fresh before the break.”
Southeast of Saline will return to action on January 8th when they play host to the Minneapolis Lions.
