The Holidome, the Ambassador Hotel and Conference Center — over the years the building located at 1616 W. Crawford Street in Salina has gone by several different names. Earlier this month the rumor around town was the structure, which sits abandoned, was scheduled to be destroyed.

According to Salina City Manager Mike Schrage, the City is not aware of any demolition plans at this time.

"We [the City] continue to conduct code enforcement on the building," Schrage said. "The property owner could elect to demolish the building if he wanted to."

The owner of the building, who lives in Dallas, Texas, continues to pay property taxes on the building and according to Schrage, there is a local property manager who oversees and ensures the building is boarded up and in compliance with city code.

Throughout its time as an abandoned building, witnesses say they have seen people entering and exiting the building through various entry points at different hours of the day.

Schrage said the city could decide to send the building owner a dangerous structures violation notice — but the building is currently not deemed a dangerous structure

According to Schrage, if the City labels the building a dangerous structure, and the owner is unwilling to work with the city to have it destroyed, the city commission can require the owner to repair or remove the building within a set time. This process would require the city to demolish the building at the owner's expense.
