WICHITA – Kansas Wesleyan men's track continues to make adjustments to the record book as the Coyotes continued their season this weekend at the Friends Spring Invitational at Adair-Austin Stadium.
The Coyotes got a couple NAIA qualifying performances, along with event victories and school records set at the event.
Cole Parker (SR/Corning, Calif.) won the shot put, hitting the NAIA A standard with a mark of 16.11m, also setting a new KWU school record in the process.
Cole Parker also won the javelin with a mark of 53.53m.
Eryk Kyser (JR/Caney, Kan.) placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 7.21m hitting the NAIA B Standard.
In the hammer throw, Simeon Faagai (JR/Ponca City, Okla.) placed fourth with a mark of 49.42m setting a new school record.
The Coyotes had plenty of other outstanding finishes at the event.
In the shot put, Dylan Worrell placed sixth with a mark of 14.09m, Keegan Lott (FR/Horton, Kan.) placed seventh with a mark of 14.08m, Simeon Faagi placed 17th with a mark of 12.30m, and Cody Flax (JR/Culver, Kan.) placed 25th with a mark of 11.46m.
The 4x400m A squad placed 10th with a time of 3:27.92, featuring the group of Riley Garcia (FR/San Antonio, Texas), Ty Davidson (SO/Lakin, Kan.), Julian Avila (SO/Manhattan, Kan.) and Conner LaRosa (SO/Herington, Kan.). The B squad finished 20th with a time of 3:43.10, featuring the group of Giovanni Rios (SO/Temecula, Calif.), Will Griffith, Tyler Fontenot (FR/Houston, Texas) and Kamal Murphy.
In the triple jump, Arlander Johnson (SO/Salina, Kan.) placed 10th with a mark of 13.47m and Kamal Murphy placed 14th with a mark of 12.97m.
KWU's 4x100m relay team of Eryk Kyser, Riley Garcia, Arlander Johnson, and Mark Benjamin placed 10th with a time of 43.71 seconds.
Also in the hammer, Cody Flax placed 11th with a mark of 39.68m, Jonathan Calzada (FR/Salina, Kan.) placed 14th with a mark of 39.22m and Cole Parker placed 20th with a mark of 35.76m.
In the discus, Keegan Lott placed 12th with a mark of 42.95m, Cole Parker was 15th with a mark of 39.20m, Simeon Faagi was 17th with a mark of 38.86m, Jonathan Calzada placed 31st with a mark of 31.68m, and Dylan Worrell placed 42nd with a mark of 27.86m.
Kamal Murphy placed 15th in the 400m hurdles with a time of 63.44.
In the 1500m, Jake Cruz (FR/Pasadena, Texas) led the way with a 17th place finish in 4:08.54, Ty Da vidson was 20th in 4:08.38, Julian Avila was 22nd in 4:10.05, Shane Calvin (JR/Lakin, Kan.) was 27th in 4:11.04, Austin Hess (JR/Garden City, Kan.) was 37th in 4:14.79, Will Griffith was 38th in 4:14.82, and Cisco Alvarez (SO/Colorado Springs, Colo.) was 58th in 4:22.72.
In the 400m, Eryk Kyser was 20th with a time of 49.86 seconds and Conner LaRosa was 67th with a time of 54.13.
In the 5000m, Jack Horacek (SO/Topeka. Kan.) was 27th with a time of 15:59.66, Nicolas Martinez (FR/Coppell, Texas) was 44th in 16:57.11, and Remington Wiseman (FR/Howard, Kan.) was 50th in 19:18.10.
In the 800m, Giovanni Rios led the Coyote finishers with a 30th place finish with a time of 2:00.78, Jake Cruz was 48th in 2:04.78, Shane Calvin was 50th in 2:04.48, Austin Hess was 55th in 2:06.21, Cisco Alvarez was 69th in 2:12.58.
In the 100m, Mark Benjamin led the Coyotes with a 31st place finish and a time of 11.04 seconds. James Preston was 83rd with a time of 11.88, Tyler Fontenot was 84th with a time of 11.90 and Que Hill (JR/Salina, Kan.) was 104th with a time of 12.36.
In the 200m, Mark Benjamin finished 32nd with a time of 22.33 seconds, Riley Garcia was 66th with a time of 23.13, Tyler Fontenot was 88th with a time of 23.84, and James Preston was 91st with a time of 24.17.
The Coyotes head back to Wichita next weekend, to Wichita State, for the KT Woodman Classic at Cessna Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
