Recently, the Board of Directors has approved the replacement of the most significant section of the roof this spring.

"Over the past few years, the Y has been working towards updating the roof to ensure we are protecting the property and investments inside. Last year, over $100,000 was spent on updating the roofing sections over the Membership Area, Basketball Courts, and a small portion of the pool area," says YMCA Interim CEO, Chris Lehecka.

Over $244,000 was utilized from our building reserves, a fund set aside for large projects to sustain our facility. Projects such as the roof may not be the most appealing to the eye but are critical to the overall experience and sustainability of the YMCA. There are numerous ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing the Y experience in Salina.

One aspect to look forward to is installing over 800 feet of additional sidewalk along Westchester Dr. to promote accessibility to our sports fields. Another is a pavilion on the south side of the Y that would provide more shade and a restroom area for our outdoor programs. These upgrades will improve the overall aesthetic of the facility and contribute to the space's functionality with community comfort and safety in mind.

"The Salina Y is such a big part of the community, providing services for individuals and families of all ages, from infancy through senior years. Our goal is to build confidence and promote positive relationships by carrying out our mission to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all," says Lehecka when asked about the impact the Y has on the community.

As a key community advocate, The Salina Family YMCA continues to uphold its founding mission, serving as a prominent nonprofit dedicated to overall development for over 138 years. The organization prioritizes Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. Contact Chris Lehecka, Interim CEO.
