Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid Quotes

September 12, 2026

OPENING STATEMENT: “Alright, as far as the injuries go, it’s (DB Chamarri) Conner and (T Josh) Simmons. They’ll be listed as out. (DT) Chris’s (Jones) calf tightened up, so we just kept him out today, so precautionary. And then, everybody else practiced. Look forward to the challenge of playing Denver, again a good football team. So, look forward to bringing them in here to Arrowhead, and cutting everything loose. Two good teams playing each other, so it should be heck of a game. With that, time’s yours.”

Q: On DT Chris Jones status for Monday.

REID: “Yeah, I think he’ll be alright. When it’s all said and done, yep.”

Q: Do you think before Monday there is any chance DB Chamarri Conner and T Josh Simmons would be good to play?

REID: “They’ll be out.”

Q: Is there any chance DB Chamarri Conner and T Josh Simmons would be on injured reserve?

REID: “I don’t know about that. I mean, they’re out for this game, but they’re making progress, to answer your question.”

Q: What about DE Ashton Gillotte, how do you feel about him?

REID: “Yeah, (DE Ashton Gillotte) he’s good to go.”

Q: How excited are you to get the season started?

REID: “Listen, I’m excited anytime you have an opportunity, you get 17 of these things, so, you’re excited for each one of them. But it’s great to get started. Had a lot of practices and good to be able to play against somebody else.”

RB KENNETH WALKER

Q: What excites you most about being able to showcase what you can do for this offense on Monday?

WALKER: “Honestly just going through what we go through – OTAs and training camp. You know, those are long days, so it’s exciting to be able to go out there and showcase it on Monday night.”

Q: What are your emotions going into the game?

WALKER: “Right now, I’m pretty chill, but I feel like when we get there, I’ll be super excited. Just being able to go out there with my brothers and finally being able to showcase what we’ve been working on since OTAs.”

Q: How proud are you of RB Emmett Johnson and RB Brashard Smith, and how far they’ve come with the pass protection?

WALKER: “Obviously, I’m real proud. I love to see those guys shine. We work at it day in and day out, so being able to see the work pay off, it’s good to see. And also, those are my brothers, so anything they do that’s good, I love to see that.”

C CREED HUMPHREY

Q: Is the team hungrier for a win after what happened last season?

HUMPHREY: “Every time we go out there, we're hungry for a win. And so, yeah, we want to go out there, get this season started on the right note. So, the energy has been great this week. Practice has been great this week. So, we're fired up to get out there Monday.”

Q: T Kahlil Benson is the projected starter at left tackle. How are you lifting him up for this opportunity?

HUMPHREY: “Yeah, I've been in his shoes like that. So, whenever he's called upon, you know, we're just there helping him out, letting him know different things. I'm just helping him with the confidence, so he's excited. He's ready to roll.”

Q: How much will RB Kenneth Walker's impact be on this offense, just based on everything you've seen from the offseason to now?

HUMPHREY: “Yeah, (RB) Kenneth (Walker), he's a stud, man. He's one of those guys that he can get a lot of stuff done. So, we're excited about him. It's been fun to work with him through training camp, through the preseason game. So, we're just excited to go out there and get after it for real.”

DT KHYIRIS TONGA

Q: You mentioned when you signed in Kansas City, it was nice to have a long-term deal. What does it feel like to finally get this started?

TONGA: “It's an amazing feeling just to be in the league and to be on a team. It's hard to just be in here, so the fact that I get to find a place and be here in Kansas City, it means the world to me, so very excited, family very excited. So, definitely blessed.”

Q: Did you get a sense during training camp and practice of the disappointment this organization had after last season and how much resolve there is going into this year?

TONGA: “Yeah, from day one, there was a mindset that we needed to control, and that was from as soon as we came in. (Head) Coach (Andy) Reid set it up for us. This is probably the hardest camp that we had to go through, just everything that was leading up to it because of last year and there's a standard that needs to be played at, and Coach is always reminding us and just getting back to that standard of what Kansas City's used to.”

Q: What have you kind of picked up from a guy like DT Chris Jones?
