A Salina woman was transported to a Wichita hospital burn unit after a fire Tuesday morning in an east Salina apartment complex.

Salina Fire Marshal Troy Long told Salina Post this morning that firefighters and other emergency personnel were dispatched to the Country Hills Apartments at East Crawford Street and Fairdale Road shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday for the report of a fire at the complex.

The blaze started in the ground floor apartment at the north end of the complex and spread to the apartment above, Long said. The ground level apartment was destroyed and the deck and part of the second-floor apartment were damaged, he said.

Approximately seven people were able to escape the fire, however one of them, a woman, suffered burns and an injury sustained on the way out of the building, Long said. The woman was transported to a Wichita hospital burn unit, he added. Her name was not released.

At this point, the fire remains under investigation and its cause is not yet known, Long said.
