In recognition of those law enforcement personnel who have given their lives in the line of duty, the Salina Police Department will conduct a memorial ceremony May 18.
Four Salina officers have given their lives in the line of duty, according to information from the department. They are as follows.
Officer John Stonebraker on Feb. 12, 1917
Officer Tom Carson on Nov. 29, 1920
Officer Olney E. Eaton on May 31, 1942
Officer Jerry R. Ivey on June 13, 1975
The ceremony, part of National Police Week, May 15-21, is scheduled for 8 a.m. May 18 in Jerry Ivey Memorial Park, 2465 Edward Street. The ceremony is open to the public. Refreshments will be provided following the ceremony.
In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the First Southern Baptist Church, 2401 S. Ohio Street.
