Carolyn M. Horting, 81, Bennington, died Tuesday, February 15, 2022. She was born July 23, 1940, to William Russell and Dolores M. (Gawith) Nisbeth on her grandparents' farm west of Bennington.
She went to country school when she was in the first grade and then onto Bennington Public Schools where she graduated from high school. Carolyn then attended Brown Mackie Business College in Salina.
She and Larry L. Horting were married in Tescott on June 27, 1959. To this union two children were born, Carol Sue and William Lee. Carolyn worked for the Bank of Tescott for 45 years, retiring February 2006. She then helped Larry on the farm working hay and raising cattle.
Carolyn loved riding horses in the Eastern Kansas Horse Association. Her favorite pastime was bowling and doing word searches. Her favorite song was “I Was Raised on Country Sunshine.” After retirement, she and Larry traveled extensively, and many memories were made.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Bill; and sister Sharlyn Geiger.
Survivors are her husband Larry; daughter Carol Horting; son William Horting and his sons, Michael (Crystal), Cody, and Devon (Felicia) and their son, Forrest; brother-in-law Charles Geiger; two sisters-in-law, Susan Horting and Peggy Nisbeth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 18 at the Tescott United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with burial on Larry and Carolyn’s farm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tescott United Methodist Church and may be mailed to Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
