WICHITA - The Tulsa Drillers defeated the Wind Surge 3-2 in extra innings in the series finale on Sunday afternoon behind a home run from Justin Yurchak and a strong outing from the Tulsa bullpen.
The Drillers scored the game-winning run in the tenth inning as Jeren Kendall hit a sacrifice bunt in attempt to score Leonel Valera and a throwing error from Surge reliever Alex Scherff allowed Valera to score to give Tulsa their sixth win in the series.
The Drillers struck first as catcher Hunter Feduccia hit an RBI-single that scored Devin Mann to give Tulsa an early 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Cole Sturgeon responded for the Surge in the third inning as he hit an RBI-single to bring Matt Wallner home to tie the game 1-1 in the third inning. Sturgeon finished the afternoon two for five with an RBI. Edouard Julien went two for five on the day as well.
Casey Legumina got the start on the mound for the Wind Surge and pitched four and two thirds’ innings and allowed two runs on three hits and tallied three strikeouts before being relieved by Andrew Cabezas in the fifth inning.
Notes: The Surge finished the ballgame 2-for-16 with runners in scoring position…Wichita is now 5-2 in extra innings this season… The Surge have lost five straight (tied for longest losing streak of the season) …Wichita ends the 13-game road trip with a record of 3-10.
