Georgene G. Surber, daughter of Joseph Bednar and Stella Elizabeth (Kauer) Bednar, was born on the family farm on August 28, 1930, two miles west of Cuba, Kansas and passed away on May 10, 2021 at the Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, Kansas at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 12 days
Georgene grew up on the family farm with her two sisters and two brothers and attended Silverthorne Grade School and graduated from Cuba High School in 1948.
She moved to Belleville Kansas in 1948 and went to work for Carstensen Abstract Company for a year and then went to work for the Kansas Power and Light Company in Belleville for several years as a clerk.
She was united in marriage to Robert E. Surber on May 27, 1950 and to this union one son, Steven K. was born.
She was the secretary/treasurer/bookkeeper for our family business, Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, for over 40 years, a position she held until December 31, 2017 when she retired at age 87. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers. She loved her family and loved to cook and enjoyed hosting many family dinners with her sister Gladys.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Stella Bednar, husband Robert E. Surber, two sisters, Maxine Clark and Gladys McCracken, and one brother, Norman Bednar.
She is survived by one son, Steven K. Surber of Belleville, Kansas, one brother, George Bednar and his wife Pat of Pueblo, Colorado, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, Belleville, KS, conducted by Pastor Kathy Aeillo and Pastor Jacob Rice.
Interment will be in the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, KS.
Memorials may be given to the Republic County Community Foundation or Central Christian Church, Belleville, KS.
