LINDSBORG - One of  central Kansas’ longtime cultural attractions unveiled its new look in time for the holidays.

The Lindsborg Old Mill & Swedish Heritage Museum’s logotype is encircled by tendrils of oat stalk. Traditionally, these bundles, called Julkarve were hung on a doorstep or fence for birds to feast on as winter approaches. As such, they are symbolic of sharing of one’s blessings. This graphic concept also illustrates the museum connection to the region’s rich agrarian heritage, as Swedish settlers first came in the mid-1860s.

“We are delighted that staff worked on this with graphic designer Holly Lofton, who has created compelling logos for regional brands including Small World Gallery and Svensk Hyllingsfest,” said museum Board President Les Sperling. “Lofton’s interpretation of how we want others to experience the unique pioneering spirit of the Smoky Valley, was just what we wanted. She instinctively captured how our ’museum and more’ will nurture the artifacts and buildings in its care, as it works to steward and share the Swedish culture of the Smoky Valley.”

Originally organized in 1962, The Lindsborg Old Mill & Swedish Heritage Museum encompasses genealogical research offices, a museum, the brick 1898 Old Mill, a shady riverside campground, and Heritage Square village that features the 1904 Swedish Pavilion, now available to rent for parties, weddings and concerts.
