UPDATE: Police make an arrest in connection to early Wednesday homicide

UPDATE 4:37 p.m. Wednesday: The Salina Police Department released the following update Wednesday afternoon concerning Anthony Quentin Lopez-Garcia, who originally was identified as a person of interest in a homicide early this morning in Salina.

On April 20, 2022, an arrest warrant was issued for Lopez-Garcia by Saline County District Court, for the charges of First Degree Murder and Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

This afternoon, a Kansas City, Missouri resident recognized Lopez-Garcia apparently due to the previous media release. KCPD was contacted and Lopez-Garcia was taken into custody on unrelated local Kansas City charges. Lopez-Garcia will be extradited back to Kansas for the homicide upon completion of the extradition process.

The victim has been identified but presently, the next of kin resides in another state and the notification is forthcoming. Once that is done, the victim’s name will be released.

The Salina Police Department would like to thank the citizens for the information that lead to the arrest and capture of this individual. The investigation is ongoing.

Police are looking for a person of interest in connection to an early Wednesday morning homicide in central Salina.

At approximately 12:25 a.m. Wednesday, officers were dispatched to the area of S. Front Street and Gypsum Avenue for the report of an injury motor vehicle wreck. When they arrived, they found in the passenger seat of a green 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis the body of a man who appeared to have been shot, according to a news release issued by the Salina Police Department this morning. The man has not yet been identified. No one else was in the vehicle when police arrived.

The Salina Police Department is investigating the incident as a homicide and has named Anthony Quentin Lopez-Garcia as a person of interest in the case, according to information in the release.

Lopez-Garcia, 27, is described as a Hispanic man who is 5’8”, weighs 170 pounds, and has brown eyes and black hair. He may be in a maroon 2001 Dodge Dakota pickup with a Kansas disabled license plate of B5702, the release reported.

"Lopez-Garcia should be considered armed and dangerous. If you have information about his location or come into contact with him, do not approach or make contact with him, call 911 with the location or information," the Salina Police Department noted.
