Solomon High School will be the first school in the area to kick off sub-state basketball play with games today and tomorrow for the Gorillas and Lady Gorillas.
The girls team will be up first, entering the 1A DI tournament as the seven-seed with a record of 4-14.
The opponent for the Lady Gorillas will be the two seed in 11-4 Sylvan Lucas, who put together an impressive season but struggled at the end, losing two of their last three games.
The Lady Mustangs are led by sophomore standout Keeli Knobbe, who has averaged double-digit scoring throughout the course of the regular season.
Tip off between Solomon and Sylvan-Lucas is scheduled for 7pm tonight at Sylvan-Lucas High School, with the winner advancing to play whoever comes out of the 3-6 matchup between 11-5 Rural-Vista and 4-14 Canton Galva on Thursday.
Tomorrow the Solomon boys team will take center stage. The 15-5 Gorillas will host their sub-state opener as the three-seed in this tournament.
The first round opponent for Solomon will be six-seeded Rural Vista, who enter at 7-10 fresh off back-to-back victories.
The Heat are led by a dynamic duo of senior scorers in Dylan Worrell and Cameron Campuzano, who combine to average around 24 points per game.
Tip off between the Gorillas and Heat is scheduled for 7pm on Friday from Solomon High School. The winner will advance to face whoever makes it out of the 2-7 matchup featuring 13-3 Sylvan Lucas and 3-10 Lincoln on Friday.
