Hello and happy Thursday, everybody, it’s Tyler Henry, back with another KINA Sports Update presented by Salina Regional Orthopedic and Sports Medicine…

_________

On Wednesday Salvador Perez homered in both games and MJ Melendez added a solo shot in the nightcap to help the Kansas City Royals beat the St. Louis Cardinals 8-5 for a sweep of a day-night doubleheader

Kansas City took the opener 6-4, and the Royals have won three in a row to improve to 51-43 — a season after winning just 56 games total.

Michael Wacha went five innings for the victory in the second game. He pitched seven seasons in St. Louis and was the MVP of the 2013 NLCS against the Dodgers. This was his first start in St. Louis since leaving five years ago.

Wednesday also saw news break that Gregg Berhalter has been fired as the head coach of the United States men’s national soccer team following the squad’s Copa America elimination

Berhalter finishes with a record of 44-17-13 in 74 matches. He also led the squad to a Gold Cup victory in 2021 and two CONCACAF Nations League titles, but struggled on the biggest stage prompting this change ahead of the summer olympics

And finally last night Sporting KC picked up a big win over FC Dallas taking a 2-0 victory in the US open cup

Sporting will resume the regular season in San Jose later on this weekend
