Lawrence James (Jim) Brennan Jr.

  Lawrence James (Jim) Brennan Jr. passed away Monday, August 24, 2020. He had struggled with multiple illnesses in recent years. Jim was born June 14, 1932, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to parents Lawrence Brennan and Marie Weiskircher Brennan. Jim was raised in Wheeling, and Martins Ferry, Ohio. He graduated from Wheeling Central High School, and from Ohio State University with a major in Dairy Technology. He served two years as an officer in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Bayfield. Jim was married to Rita Seidel in Columbus, Ohio, on September 4, 1954. Jim was proceeded in death by his parents, and by his brother, Richard. He is survived by wife Rita, sister Mary Ann (Vincent) Truax, and sons Mike, Terry, and Tim (wife Karen, step-grandchildren Brent and Travis Raif).


Jim moved his family to Hillsboro, Kansas, in 1967, to assume a management position at Tip Top dairy, which ultimately became part of Associated Milk Producers, Incorporated. Jim was assistant plant manager for AMPI in Hillsboro for most of his career.


Jim's entire adult life was one of civic and community service. He was a member of the Hillsboro Kiwanis club for almost 50 years. He served on the Hillsboro City Council, on the Salem Hospital board, and on the Hillsboro Community Foundation board. He delivered meals for the Hillsboro Senior Center. He was a Webelos Cub Scout den leader. Jim loved KU basketball, and Royals baseball. He was an avid golfer, and served in many administrative and voluntary capacities for the Hillsboro Golf Club. He was always at the ready to help his Lincoln Street neighbors with projects and emergencies. Jim was active in his church, Holy Family Parish, in Marion, where he served in many roles, including as a mass lector.



Viewing will be on Thursday, August 27, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM at Jost Funeral Home. The funeral will be private.
