With an 11-1 run-rule victory over the Minneapolis Lions this afternoon, the Southeast of Saline Lady Trojan softball team is through to the regional semifinal round.
SES knocked off Minneapolis for a third time this season advancing to 16-5 on the year while the Lions wrap up their season at 7-14.
Due to poor field conditions in Hesston, the games were moved to McPherson at the last minute, but the change didn’t impact the Trojans, who wasted no time putting themselves through to the next round.
Minneapolis was able to find a run in the top of the first to take an early 1-0 lead but Southeast responded with 11 unanswered runs spread over the course of six innings.
Once again the depth of the Trojan lineup was on full display as five different spots in the order came up with an RBI en route to an 11-1 victory.
It was all hands on deck in the circle where Bryna Baird, Lexi Jacobson and Carly Commerford combined to allow just one run on one hit and strike out eight lions.
Southeast will advance to the semifinal where they will meet a familiar foe in Smoky Valley, who won their quarterfinal contest 12-2 over Halstead today.
When the two faced off earlier this season the Vikings got the better of SES, taking a 5-2 victory in one of the lowest scoring affairs of the Trojan season.
Southeast will get their chance at revenge at 4:30pm on Wednesday when the two square off for a spot in the regional final against either Haven or Hillsboro.
