MINNEAPOLIS - At a windblown Minneapolis on Tuesday evening, Sacred Heart High School beat Minneapolis in a wild softball doubleheader, 17-7 and 18-13.

In the opener, Emilee Blythe collected the win, striking out 11 batters over six innings in the run shortened game. Sacred Heart was led by Ellie Woodall with three hits.

Minneapolis countered with Cameron Cleveland who scored three runs, but was also the losing pitcher for Minneapolis with 10 strikeouts to her credit.

In the nightcap, Minneapolis led most of the game until Sacred Heart put 10 runs on the board in the fifth inning, including back-to-back homers by Maegan Torrey and Emilee Blythe. Torrey finished the game with five RBIs, helping freshman pitcher Alyssa Patterson to victory.

Minneapolis was led by three hits from Shelby Davidson, with two RBIs each for Cameron Cleveland and Megan Atkinson. Braedee Weatherman was tagged with the loss in the second game with seven strikeouts. The defensive play of the evening was from Minneapolis’ freshman Sydney Parks on a diving catch by the wall to record an out.

“We were pleased to get two wins under those playing conditions against a quality team like Minneapolis,” said Sacred Heart Coach Bob Martin. “I am glad that we are seeing Minneapolis now versus later in the year, as Coach Billinger has three quality pitchers that she can bring out at any given time and they will only get better.”

Minneapolis returns to action on Thursday against Republic County, while Sacred Heart is off until playing Concordia next Tuesday.
