WICHITA – The Kansas Wesleyan men's bowling team finished fifth and the women 11th over the weekend at the Mid-States Bowling Championships, hosted by Wichita State, at Northrock Lanes.
KWU men placed in the Top 5 of the 17 team field, finishing with an overall pin total of 7484. The Coyotes were the third highest finishing NAIA team at the event. KWU was fifth in the standings after the five team games with a total of 4630 pins.
Individually in the team games, Bryce Stephenson (JR/Garland, Texas) led the way for the Coyotes finishing 15th with a total of 988. Taylor Miller (FR/McPherson, Kan.) was 20th with 969, Nathan Mercer (JR/Topeka, Kan.) was 23rd with 956, all rolling five games. Taylor Wiley (FR/San Antonio, Texas) was 104th with 547 pins in three games, Austin Wiley (JR/San Antonio, Texas) was 108th with 519 in three games, Caleb Demel (JR/Salina, Kan.) was 130th with 333 pins in two games and Austin Musselman (SR/Catoosa, Okla.) was 133rd with 318 in two games.
Wichita State was the tournament champion with a total of 5150 pins.
The Coyote men get a month off before hosting the NAIA Group Championships, the first time KWU has hosted a bowling tournament. It is March 6-7 at The Alley in Downtown Salina.
The KWU women posted an 11th place finish at the Mid-States Championships with a total of 7040 pins in the event.
Individually, Linda Himes (SO/Texarkana, Ark.) led the Coyotes with a 24th place finish in five games, which included a 268 game in the third game. Taylor Lang (SO/Hutchinson, Kan.) finished 31st with 893, Sara Taylor (JR/Wills Point, Texas) was 37th with 857, and Hayleigh Hale-Haggard (FR/Allen, Texas) was 54th with 764 pins, all in five games. Jasmine Senechal (FR/Maryville, Tenn.) was 66th with 704 pins in four games. Madison Elskamp (JR/Topeka, Kan.) rolled one game with a score of 118, finishing 127th.
Wichita State was the event champion with a total of 5032 pins.
The Coyote women also get a month off before hosting the NAIA Group Championships March 6-7 at The Alley in Downtown Salina.
